Was how little survival instinct Margarito had when he was hurt. He just seemed to have no experience with things not going his way and when to tie someone up and buy time. Once he was hurt he had no way of defending himself.
While I picked Margarito to win, I always said a guy could not beat Margarito by running away. The faster you run, the faster he chases you. You have to fight Margarito and back him up, which is how Mosley did it.
I thought the corner should have followed their first instincts to stop the fight because he was a sitting duck. What happened was inevitability, he got creamed and really hurt.
But what it shows is that nobody is invincible. Nobody thought it could happen to Margarito, just as some people think it can never happen to Mayweather, Vitali and others.
On any given night against the wrong guy, it most certainly can.
What a welcome change of a thread. Im not going to but in here, but I just wanted to say that I have read this thread from stat to finish and have enjoyed it. I have watched Boxing for a long time, but I always enjoy listening to people who know more then I do have a conversation. :fing02:
Maybe you should be the writer then.
You say it's kinda obvious that he isn't invincible. What I mean by him being invincible is that most people had this impression of him that he was immune to the knockout, that he was impervious to the effects of punching.
Maybe I SHOULD be the writer, because at least I know that being invincible is NOT the same as being immune to the knockout.
That can definitely happen to Margarito but we won't know for sure until he gets back into the ring again against a relatively big puncher but it wouldn't surprise me if his chin is cracked and his confidence shattered.
It happened to Erik Morales, it happened to Roy Jones and it can certainly happen to Antonio Margarito.
Once a fighter breaks, it's easier for him to break a second time. I think a knockout affects you mentally, as well as physically. For a fighter to take the punches all night, he must have the confidence that he can continue to do so while carrying out his own game plan. Getting KO'ed the way Margarito did will affect his confidence down the line.

When a boxer stops learning and evolving, they're dead in the water. Pavlik needs to show in his next few fights the desire to improve and adapt or we can expect judicious matchmaking on his behalf in the future.
I was thinking the same thing and with Arum as his promoter you can be sure about that.
I don't know if you've seen the video interview here on BS with Cotto but he actually says he doesn't like to clinch and doesn't view it as a legitimate strategy. He went on to say he likes to fight clean. My mouth dropped. Miguel Cotto a professional prizefighter, champ in 2 weight classes said this. Sheer ignorance for him of all people to say that. I've been worried ever since for him. Someone needs to bitch slap him and say, "Are you a crazy person??"
Perhaps he needs a fresh perspective in the corner whose perspective he respects.
Yeah but you'd think a guy who has been a professional since he was 16 who fought in the gym all these years would know how to clinch. Cotto has the same issue.

I've never met Mosley but I know his former trainer John David Jackson. Still, U > Me.
I got a pic with him in Vegas once during the Hopkins-Wright fight. We talked about him fighting Mayweather and how he wanted that fight badly, he also said he could take Cotto.
I knew Mosley's chin was as good as Margarito's but I didn't expect a complete domination. I had the pleasure of meeting Mosley, and he's a great guy too.

I never thought Mosley had the same knockout power he did at the lower weight classes, but this is impressive. I always liked the way he throws his whole body behind his punches....he puts everything behind them.
What first impressed me about Mosley is his amazing body punching. He broke down the very tough John John Molina with body punching, did the same thing to a lot of very tough fighters. He is a man among men.
Mosley is the wrong guy to square up in front of. He is a physical beast.
Mosley has knocked out Ricardo Mayorga and Antonio Margarito, two of the hardest chins in the sport over the last decade.

Now, I've read many people say that if Margo is caught, then he probably cheated against Cotto.
If he is caught against Mosley do any of you, who called Cotto "Quitto" or a quitter, think this will alleviate his quitting against Antonio Margarito? This is, of course, with the logic, "Once a cheater, always a cheater."
I should have seen it coming. I put a lot of stock into each fighter's previous fights, which is never a good thing given the significance of styles.
Mayorga is just a tough fighter to prepare for because he is so unpredictable with where his punches come from. He is unconventional that it can be hard to look good against him.
Wrap your mind around this:

eh, the Mayo one isnt that impressive.. Trini, Dela both did.
Margo being KTFO is huge..
" You're gonna go far kid "..
Yeah, I understand that. I saw him attempting to hold, and stay on the ropes (not saying that's a defense, but he tried to stay on the ropes to keep his ass up)
Shane was smart though. Gotta love a mastermind at work.

He had no head movement but still, holding your hands up and not giving too much of a target is some form of defense.

maybe if he learns how to triple his jab? :lol1:
Remember when 140 was the talk of boxing with all of those great fights? They never happened and Mayweather went to 147. And then none of those great fights happened either.
It seems to be a thing among some modern boxers. When Vernon Forrest was asked by a writer recently why he wasn't entertaining the idea of fighting his mandatory Sergio Martinez, he replied "I'm in the fight business, not the fight game."
These Wall Street boxers are ruining the sport. The matchmaking in UFC makes boxers look like chumps.
you are getting good kid
