The ghost of Ray Robinson is having a good laugh, and is proud of the performance Shane Mosley pulled off last night. Mad props Sugar Shane just like many greats before you, you proved that no man is invincible and can be hurt. I’m still in awe over what happened January 24 2009, what was thought to of been impossible was proven to be possible. Like Shane said it takes someone very special to knockout (TKO) a warrior like Margarito.
So I guess the purpose of this thread is to simply appreciate what just happened in the world of boxing, and how it has once again proven itself as the greatest sport out there.
Anything is possible, and nothing is impossible.
If I had to use a space analogy: Sugar Ray Robinson is the Big Bang - Leonard a Supernova - and Mosley a Red Giant.
3 different fighters. 3 Different levels in terms of all-time greatness, but every one of them deserving of respect.
Well said, and agreed.
I don't even begin to fathom what Ray Robinson would or would not have thought, but Mosley gets nothing but respect from me for his performance.
"5) Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KO)
Age: 37
Current Title: Alphabelt at Welterweight/147 lbs.
Career Titles: World Welterweight (2000-02); World Junior Middleweight (2003-04); Additional Alphabelt at Lightweight
Last Five Opponents: Antonio Margarito, Ricardo Mayorga, Miguel Cotto, Luis Collazo, Fernando Vargas (twice)
Next Opponent: TBA
The Take: Mosley can’t quite claim to be the undisputed king of the class following his humbling of Antonio Margarito, but there can be no doubt he reigns now as “The Man” again almost seven years after losing the spot to Vernon Forrest. Sure, he lost narrowly to Miguel Cotto in 2007 but there were arguments for both men. Mosley never even let Margarito make a case. Like another great Sugar at the same calendar age, Ray Robinson, Mosley showed the ability to handle a younger pressure fighter and summon youth from an aging body for victory. Margarito may not have been Carmen Basilio, but he had never been made to look the way Mosley left him. Add to that a powerful run of recent competition and Mosley assumes Margarito’s spot in these ratings and improves it by one. Previous #5 Vasquez drops partly because no one is sure when he’ll be fighting again as he nears one year out of the ring. Boxing now stares at what could be a dream four-way scenario if Floyd Mayweather chooses to return. Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton are busy this spring; Mosley has an open dance card. Mosley-Mayweather has been must-see for over a decade. Amazingly, Mosley has shown the world it still is. "
Bolded is more or less what I was trying to get across.
Side note going through this new p4p list the "The Take" on all these fighters are really good reads.
No.. he actually meant seized. He meant that Robinson's legacy was so great that he "seized existence". Held it hostage and only relinquished his hold on existence once his demands to be labeled as the GOAT were met.
lol nice one
By the way.... it's "Ceased to exist" not "Seized to exist" and Mosley has a lot more to do than just knock out Margarito to even be mentioned alongside Robinson and Leonard.
OMG I never said Shane was "alongside" SRR/SRL in anything, but the man had an amazing win over what many viewed as a tank. All I am saying is IF SRR was able to be with us here and viewed the fight that it is safe to assume he would of no doubt been proud of Shane.

somewhere out there Ray Robinson is dead and cant form an opinion on the fight because he has seized to exist a long long time ago.
Ah wonderful, you have placed yet another stain on the meaning this thread was suppose to represent.
/sigh
Alas touche, Sin City.
None the less the opinions on what exists or doesn't after life as we know it really isn't progressing the point of this thread now is it?

Silence. That's squealpiggy's job to say that. Not yours. :boxing:
I'm sorry, but Shane has no where near lived up to the greatness of the last two great Sugars, Robinson and Leonard. If anything the ghost of Ray Robinson was a little ticked that a fighter who has never lived up to his full potential and was caught using roids carries his glamorous nickname.
Ha ha, I never said Shane was in the league of SRR/SRL. Listen if you can't say anything good don't speak please. What Shane just did was truely amazing and very worthy of praise if you disagree wonderful, but please guide it away from this thread.
From one boxing fan to another.
Good day Sir/Mam.
