It's certainly gaining populatiry, primarily due to the Ultimate Fighter and Spike tv. Even if you don't like the UFC though, it is the most popular and the most mainstream. So that's essentially what you have to judge MMA buy. K1 and Pride have a fanbase, but not to the same extent of UFC. So in that regard, I believe that MMA won't ever overtake boxing. Partially due to the fact that there is only 1 boxing, but there are already too many MMA type shows. MMA seems to be like wrestling to me right now.
TNA is to WWE what MMA is to UFC.
TNA is competing against a giant, and won't win. K1 and Pride have to compete with the UFC, and probably won't win. They are already too established.
Ya he's good. The way he steamrolled Andrew Gollatta really got my attention. I think he's one of the best, but Wladimir gave him heaps of trouble until he got tagged, so I'd have to say that Vitali could beat Brewster if that ever happened, based on Vitali taking a better punch and not getting punched as much as Wladimir. Of course, that's all my opinion.
Strange thing about the liver: when it is hit, your body instinctively will curl up to protect it. When Oscar took a liver shot from Hopkins, he tried to counteract this by laying on his tummy. This guy here that Boom Boom hit, he tries in vain to not curl up but the right leg pulls up an he loses his balance and lands on his knee. Notice how he stay curled up after he's down.
I don't think it's just the liver being hit that causes that reaction. I think it's because it knocks the wind out of you, and freezes your diaphram so it's stuck in a contracted position. Thus the keeling over until it's relaxed.
I know it's a boxing forum, but the topic is ...fighter nicknames. As worst I'd have to rank Frank "Twinkle Toes" Trigg from the UFC. Twinkle Toes? Cmon.
Right now, The Hawain Punch - Brian Viloria comes to mind. The Real Deal wasn't bad either. But ultimately, Sugar is the best I think.
True. But without the shot to the liver, most people, including Oscar, would have had time to get back up in a count of 10. Also, people's legs don't curl up just coz they can't breath.
You're right. I think it's a combination of both. I took a bat in the chest once and couldn't move for like 20 seconds. Getting the wind knocked out of you is a horrible feeling. Not that getting punched in liver is any better...
I agree that Hamed was a myth. Simply because you can't be called anything but a coward when you lose in devestating fashon, then don't fight anymore. If he were a true champ like people had thought he was, he would have gotten the rematch against Barerra and knocked his block off. I don't really like RJJR, but he got some respect trying to beat Tarver for good - 3 times. So in that regard, RJ to me is less of a myth then Hamed. So much so that it's not comparable. I'm probably going to catch some flak for that, but it's my opinion. I don't think any fighter can be praised for going into seclusion after a loss....and not coming out of it.
oh his butt don't hurt anymore. he's had it stretched out enough by Vitali and others that it doesn't hurt anymore when he gets that vaseline poisoning that he's so famous for.
grow up man.
Vitali's chin best? LOL! Eva heard of David Tua? Samuel Peter? You takin nuthuggin to ta new level homeboi. Why don't you tell Vitali to practice how to jab.
So you can jab better then Vitali I guess to be making comments on his technique.
Anyone that disses Ruiz is a dumb fucking IDIOT!
Ruiz has 10 times the heart of Vitali!
He actually stepped up and fought REAL men...
I'll diss Ruiz, so I guess I'm an idiot. He's got the most boring fights on record, he has no skills and just trys to throw his weight around by pushing people and tieing them up,and he was schooled by RJ. His style of one punch - one clinch, is no way to get the job done. It makes for boring, uninteresting fights that nobody wants to watch. Now if you're going to bash Vitali, at least Vitali's fights have some action in them win lose or draw. You'll never see Vitali punch once, then tie up, repeat.
we all know that if you dont get your porn license before your 35,
you will never be excepted into "C-H-A-M-P-S"

What? Is that supposed to be a joke?
Anyway, I can see Vitali making a comeback if he takes a long enough break. With the back surgery, torn misiscus, etc. and a huge pressure to defend the title, it rushes recovery time. So hopefully, if he has a long enough lay off he can actually recover and make a comeback. But I won't get my hopes up.
He's given us some good fights and has shown he has skills. Which is good enough for me as a boxing fan.
There's too many threads about the Klitschko's.
I've already seen posts calling Rachman a true champion. What a joke. This forum needs some better boxing topics besides "I hate the Klitschko's", and "I love the Klitschko's"
HELL YEAH I can jab betta than Vitali. Shyyyyyt! His jab look like a bitch slap, he doesn't close his hand in a fist and jest slaps his opponents. He's been fortunate cuz he's always much bigga than his opponents and also he has power in his right hand. BUT he is one awkward movin fighta no doubt.
Call me crazy, but I don't believe you lol. And I'll bet that the other 62 people (or however many people he's fought) would say that Vitali's jab is not a bitch slap. I can throw a faster jab then him, that's for sure, but a better one, no way. In a jabbing contest I'd have to go with Vitali on this one man.
It was when the UFC did that show in Alabama. Chris Nelson and Paul Moore who at that time were shoot fighters was called up to do a show. So they went up and was paid nice to take their falls. When they came back we all hooked up at the gym and they were telling me what the whole show was like, you know behind the scences stuff, well the thing that was most shocking to me was that they was told when they arrived to the arena who they was fighting and what they wanted in the match, they were told to go down, and they did just that. UFC is fixed, nevermind what you believe, just know that it is fixed.
I don't know man. I could see some fights being fixed, for sure. But to say that the entire UFC is fixed, is liked saying that the entire boxing organization is fixed as well.
It's not fair to judge something based on it's worst specimens. Just because you're buddies fights were fixed doesn't mean the whole sport is.
Also, by what you said about the behind the scenes stuff, it sounds like they were encouraged to go to the gound because they were shoot fighters. Mabye I'm just not reading it right, but saying what you'd want to see in a fight to a figher, isn't telling him to throw the fight. Saying.... take a dive or you don't get paid, is more along the lines of fixing a fight.
I just can't see the whole thing as a sham, based on 1 personal experience.
It's training, recovery and money. If you get cut bad then it's obvious why. But a lot of boxers want to really scope out the competition well enough so there are no suprises in the ring. Say that takes like 4 months, plus cut recovery = 3 months. That leaves money. Big name fighters nowadays just care about money. Getting the right share in boxing is more important then the fight itself. First comes money, then the training begins. I think it's a joke.
You said you knew some guys that were in MMA, so name a few.
Also, why would the UFC need exposure and money? Aren't they the leading MMA program? They don't need exposure man, they have tonnes of it. I think that's a poor argument, and you've been misguided by whoever you say you knew in the UFC.
Even though some boxing fights have been fixed, it's not like it happens all the time. With that said, I still prefer boxing over UFC. But, watching bad boxing is like pulling teeth. I'd rather watch bad UFC then bad boxing, because at least theres a chance somebody might break an arm or leg.
LMAO. This is one of the funniest topics I've ever read on any forum. I've never talked to Mike Tyson before, but I bet it's a lot like talking to jr. here.
That part about Tyson saying he broke his back, "spinally broke my back", is priceless lmao.
It hurts to laugh
Its Gonna Be Boxer Against Boxer And The Question Will Be,who Has The Better Skills To Whip The Other One?
Cory Is Stronger Than Floyd...he Has Everything Floyd Beside The Reflexes.
Speed is directly related to power. The faster your punch is, the harder it feels on the recieving end. So it would definately seem that Floyd would at least punch harder the Cory. Cory may be able to bench or curl more, but not hit harder.
I like how Rock thinks ahead...he's not just going to beat 1 Klitchko but he is going to beat the other as well...nice work Rock...
But...
Rock may have forgotten the Klits 19 year old cousin Ricky Klitchko who has amassed an 68-2 amatuer record...look for this fight to actually start heating up if The Rock can indeed get by both brothers.
lol. That's funny stuff.
It's gonna turn out bad for Rachman if he's already looking past Vitali. That's how you lose.
I stopped when you said Wlad would beat Lewis.
Right, I forgot that Lewis is one of the greatest champions of all time.
He sure showed that against Vitali.
No, someone else was saying Wlad would TKO Lewis.... I just wanted to prove to this guy what nonsense that is. This is probably the most lop-sided poll I've seen on this site.
That might have been me you are talking about. If it is, then the this poll is sensless because there are way too many haters of both Klitschko's on this site.
I'm a fan of Lewis, but to me he holds a spot on the apparent top 10 heavyweights of all time as a placeholder for somebody greater. I'm not saying that's Wlad at all, or Vitali for that matter. None of those fighters even compare to the people on the top 10. If Ali, and Foreman for example are on the list, you can't add Lewis because he isn't even in the same league as those guys.
Lewis can win the fight, but if it happened as a trilogy or something, Wlad wins it. Lewis has had bad problems looking past fighters and not training properly.
Like I asked before; other then the past great heavyweights of all time, who on Lewis's record would utterly destroy Wlad if they had fought? I'm probably going to get flammed like crazy by "you're an idiot" type posts. But you can't say as a definitive answer that Lewis always wins, without even considering that Wlad seems to punch harder, is bigger, throws straighter shots, can KO with both hands, and has good speed and accuracy.
These threads bug me to. Should I learn boxing to kick some ass in a street fight? No.
I was always taught that it's better to know you're in a fight sooner then the other person. So then you can KO him and be done with it. I don't like people calling me asshole, faggot, etc. for no reason, so I don't just walk away. If you encounter this alot, just confront the guy who said it. He'll probably have nothing to say once you're in his face. If it does come to a fight, the boxing helps. Just make sure that you hit him first and make sure he doesn't get up. Call me violent if you want, but that's usually how it goes with me. Interestingly enough, I've been doing boxing for like 6 years now and haven't gotten into 1 fight since the training began. And only 2 or 3 confrontations. Once I started training, I stopped being a shit magnet.
Sure, why not. The heavy division is weak and HBO is intent on making him some type of champ.
Sure the division is weak, but who are you comparing him to? What heavyweight in the past years could give it to Wladimir? Lennox in my opinion wouldn't win because Wlad is bigger and hits way harder. His punches are much much straighter as well. I know the division is weak at the moment but without comparing him to the greatest fighters of all time, name a few that could just beat the hell out of Wlad. Corrie Sanders will probable be the first lol. I think that both Klitschko's are in the same problem that most talented boxers are in. The competition can be weak at times, and even weaker the rest of the time, so their abilities only allow for so much. You can only beat up poor competition for so long.
I wonder if it would even matter. If Wlad KO's Baby Joe, then there are going to be like 100 people saying that Mesi was shot, unprepared and over the hill. Then the whole argument begins again. In any event, I think Wlad is too big for Mesi to get at. And since training with Manny, he's starting to fight like a big guy should. He still does this flail thing with his arms when things start to get rough though. I hate that.
I haven't seen a "Roy Jones vs Wladimir" topic yet, but I'm sure somebody will make one eventually, and state that RJ would dominate Wlad.
