With the amount of exposure that MMA is receiving of late with the reality show on Spike and some televised matches, is MMA getting bigger than boxing? It seems like it is at least a fad, if not more while boxing seems to be waning...will MMA be bigger than boxing?
Botha losing in MMA is more acceptable though. even vs a 180 lbs guy. Like I said before, ground fighting , and especially vs an experienced judoka is a nightmare for anybody.
I'm not talking about shit fighters coming from reality shows here. Because what the ufc is doing is very wrong. (and arlovski whatever He's worth is losing his time in the ufc. The guy can't even be ranked in the top 3 even though He's ufc #1 because pride's got Emelianenko, Kharitonov ,Nogueira, Filipovic etc..)
Botha getting killed in kickboxing by Mo in what? 8 or 15 seconds?..Can't remember.. Yeah it's kinda sad to see him end up like this but that was his own fault.
You've seen the fight right? Botha tried to throw low kicks right off the bat , leaving his head open for a nasty KO. Mo isn't the best in the world but the guy's got sick power.
Guys like Mo, Tua, Hunt, Peter are always pretty dangerous because they have so much force behind their punches.
Botha is not a kickboxer. And He never will be. Kicking someone is easy. Learning to kick in K1 , anybody can do it. But don't expect to ever be at the level of Mirko Filipovic in this department. We've seen what these guys do. Crocop can knock out anyone with a single kick, it only takes 1 shot to put the guy to sleep.
Did you see Aerts vs Mo recently? Mo was going to repeat the same shit He did vs Botha, Especially because Aerts was also throwing low kicks, but difference is, that Aerts' low kicks had a different effect. Mo couldn't walk after 2 or 3 minutes.
That's the fucking difference here. Guys like Filipovic and Aerts have been learning using their kicks since they were kids.
Take Andy Hug for example. NO ONE in K1 could throw kicks like He used to. (well, only filipovic could too). but apart from him. Hug was pretty amazing with his kicks.
Remember Mercer vs Bonjasky?
What a joke! That fight lasted something like 10 seconds And Mercer was lucky cause Bonjasky's kick had no power. but as soon as it connected mercer was like "fuck that!" and abandonned it.
What an embarrassement.
Did you see Le Banner's latest fight?
He moves fucking fast for a 266 lbs fighter.

amazing combos!
I hope Musashi & bonjasky will both get eleminated in the 2round of the GP personally. Musashi won vs Botha (via decision) , He played a safe game again. He kept throwing low kicks and He wasn't trading punches at all. He just kept his distance and throwing mediocre low kicks during the entire fight. He's boring as hell!
He'll probably beat Karaev. But I don't see him beating Jerome or the 7 feet tall semmy schilt. Speaking of schilt, He's undefeated right now, but I also don't see this guy beating Jerome.
I was rooting for Ignashov but this guy is so fucking inconsistent. Such a shame cause He has the tools to do it, He's very much capable to beat anyone. H's a wasted talent imo.
In muay thai , He murdered Semmy schilt , He demolished him and KOed him with lethal knee strikes. That fight is not listed in schilt's record though since muyay thai has different rules and all.
Long post, but I will reply to some of those things. Yes, I saw and have that fight between Botha and Mo. Botha actually lasted more than a minute if I remember correctly and was knocked down three times.
Mirko is a fucking beast. His kicks and very decent punching power make him the world's most dangerous striker. Arlovski may be number two, I think. About Mercer, yes he sucked bigtime. As soon as Remy's kick landed, Mercer quit. Very lame, considering that he went twelve against Lennox Lewis and six with Wladimir Klitschko.
Schilt is dangerous because of his size. He does not really impress me at all. I also saw him getting owned in MMA against Nogueira and Kharitonov, and that made me be even less impressed.
By the way, Botha has been embarrased several times in both MMA and K1. His fight against Mighty Mo was simply a tragedy for Botha.

Fair enough. But Pride is more than just boring wrestling though.
fighters are active on the ground. They're constantly going for subs, chokes, ground and pound, knee attacks etc..
The fighters in pride fc are not allowed to "lay and pray" too much (like they often do in the ufc.)
when that happens, the fighters receive a "yellow card". (meaning they're deducting money from their pay check.)
I will check out the next Pride event if I can find somewhere that streams/televises it...I don't hate MMA stuff, it fills space when there is no boxing on but I would take boxing over MMA anyday. UFC seems even more fringe (even though it is more well known) than either K1 or Pride but it gets the most tv time thanks to Spike TV.
The problem with the fighter you mentioned (chuck liddell) is that the guy loves to trade punches. He's got a solid chin, and often throws some wild looping punches. A top cruiserweight would beat him for sure. Of course anything can happen. (afterall a KO is easier in mma since they have 4 oz gloves)..
But Liddell wouldn't fr too well vs a pro striker (boxer).
He lost at pride fc vs jackson (predominantly a wrestler who's got a very good standing defense..But his specialty are ground attacks and violent "slams".)...Liddell was outclassed by a wrestler. So a pro boxer would be even worse.
You have to be well rounded in mma yes, but strikers are generally fucked in mma. Which is why, and I repeat it here again..It is often not surprising to see 180 lbs guys beating Heavy weights. (they just have to submit them.)
Remember Botha? Whether He sucks or not , He's still a pro boxer. and the guy had one mma ruled fight vs a very small judoka...(akiyama was his name I think)... What the fuck did botha do? He tried to avoid the take down but couldn't do much even with his major weight advantage because the other guy kept aiming at Botha's legs...So botha ended on the ground and got subbed in the first round.
Are you an MMA fan? I am one of the few here who have said that some MMA guys would beat some boxers. I see Arlovski with chances against several heavyweights. Mirko might have too, although his main thing is the left high kick.
By the way, Botha has been embarrased several times in both MMA and K1. His fight against Mighty Mo was simply a tragedy for Botha.
What I'm saying, is in the standup, if a boxer is accurate and quick with his punches, he can catch a guy shooting for his legs. I'm not saying a boxer would win, but in the standup, he would have a distinct advantage. To seriously compete, you have to be well-rounded, and that's the idea with MMA. You can't just be a good striker or a good wrestler. You need to train in all facets of the fight game. Nonetheless, I'd love to see a skilled Cruiserweight fight Chuck Liddell in the standup, and see what happens.

Nonsense.. a world class boxer wouldn't last a minute..If you really did wrestling for 5 years you'd know that the boxing stance is the worst of all for mma type fights.
The fastest puncher in the world, the strongest one..wouldn't last long..A prime tyson would be delt with in no time...
What the fuck is a boxer gonna do, when the wrestler shoots for the legs? NOTHING!...his fucking punches won't stop anything because they can't reach so low to begin with.
If you really did wresltling and judo you'd know this.
This is a sport where the shittiest punchers in the world can beat the top ones because they don't have to deal with strikes.

It's real simple: in an mma fight the mma guy would win 99% of the time, in a boxing fight the boxer would win 99% of the time. Even though they are both combat sports, the rules differ so much it is pointless to compare them. Amyone saying that guys from either style aren't real athletes is an idiot, tho. It takes a real athlete to get hit over 200 times in a 12 round fight, but it also takes an athlete to fight for around 20 mins (Pride rules) on your back with somone on top you. Just breathing is tough there.
I don't follow MMA closely, you are right, but I can form judgements based on what I have seen, which is a good deal of K1 and UFC stuff. I have not watched any of the Pride events and will make it a point to check one out sometime. I know that the disciplines practiced are hard to master, and that some of the guys in MMA are skilled athletes. That does not mean I have to have any appreciation for the sport as a whole. I prefer boxing or even kickboxing over MMA, which if grappling is allowed usually results in two guys rolling around on the .floor. College wrestling requires a great deal of athletic skill but I will not watch it, why? Because it is boring as fuck. And my reference to drunk frat boys was meant for UFC fans, not the athletes, although watch drunk frat boys fight could be more entertaining than UFC.

Are these guys drunk frat boys to you?
How dare you insult a sport you know nothing about?
Some of the disciplines these guys practice are older than boxing. Greco-roman wrestling , Judo for example..
You guys only watch, the UFC white trash version of mma.
you have no fucking clue what this sport is like in reality.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
I don't like Golf or Basketball but I'll never trash talk ,Criticize a sport I don't even follow.

I only asked cuz you neva post boxing hurrr at non stop boxing and when you did, you asked ta silliest question in ta werld and errrbody jumped on you.
You seem mo knowledgable in MMA. I dunno shyt bout MMA though.
AND YES. Ive BEEN DROPPIn FOOS LEFT AND RIGHT fo 7 times now. All witin distance.
Actually I post in here quite a bit just not all the time some of threads in here are the same old shit over and over. When I see something that sparks my interest I'll post.
That because Rizzo is an old man now.
True. No idea why he decided to try out Pride so late in his career. They did put him against a new comer, because Kharitanov hasn't been doing MMA too long (as far as I know). I'd say that Pride FC has the much better fighters than UFC but its management is not great because they bring in all these wrestlers to fight real fighters just for the fans. They also will put Shamrock vs Sakarabu as the main event of their next event, which is insane. I guess they are crowd pleasers. UFC, there aren't many fighters who you can ask a average UFC fan about and he will tell you that he knows except for maybe Liddel and Shamrock and those guys from the reality tv show like Forrest Griffin (who got knocked the fuck out in his first ppv fight).
I know lots about each sport kid more thn you'll ever know.
You ever boxed? I have 14 years a 10-0 record before I stopped boxing.
1-0 in mma fights

I agree with that Rizzo has been done for abou 3 or 4 years now Arlovski has gotten much better and would kick Rizzo's ass now.
They put Rizzo against another amazing Russian, Kharitanov, and Rizzo had no chance.
So is that a reason why you don't know alot of boxing cuz MMA is ya thing?
I know lots about each sport kid more thn you'll ever know.

1-0 in mma fights
Arlovski was also a kid when he fought Rizzo no way is he the same fight now. Rizzo was very very washed up when he entered Pride a few months ago. You cant use that as a comparision.

No offense but that is because you're ignorant about the sport of mma it takes tons of cross training in all types of styles to even be be an above average fighter now in mma. Most top mma fighters train in boxing, kickboxing, bjj, and wrestling you gotta be an adaptable athlete in mma you can't just be a one discipline fighter anymore those days are over.
So is that a reason why you don't know alot of boxing cuz MMA is ya thing?
The ufc is garbage.
The only fighters worth seeing in this org are George saint Pierre and David Loiseau. (both canadians). These guys are wasting their time in the ufc.

This is Pride fc
http://media.putfile.com/bestHWfighterintheworld
this is how a world champion sambo fighter fights under pride rules. (basically, a sambo artist allowed to use stomps, ground and pound, knees etc..) Fedor is a judo/sambo expert.
No one in the ufc fights like this..
Their champion arlovski , ufc's #1 was owned by Rizzo.
Rizzo entered pride fc 3 or 5 months ago and got killed in less than 2 minutes by sambo elite sergei kharitonov.
Arlovski was also a kid when he fought Rizzo no way is he the same fight now. Rizzo was very very washed up when he entered Pride a few months ago. You cant use that as a comparision.
Oh and just to show my point look at the boxers that went to k-1 they all fell face first when fighting top kickboxers.Even Tyson had a contract to fight in k-1 but someone must have talked some sense into him because he never did.
I dont see whats so great about MMA anyways. It seems like it takes more skill to do boxing than MMA. Just IMO.
