It really boils down to Bob Arum being a bitter old man. He's bitter that Floyd left him and now he can't make the mega happen without the assistance of 2 fighters that left DLH and Mayweather.
You need to give more credit. Pacquiao is a fighting master, and you best believe he has the ring IQ. Not all fights are won on textbook technical skills. You know this already though.
I'll give Manny more credit but you've gotta admit that he really hasn't had to anything different in his run of fights. He's doing a lot of the same things now that he did before. Granted they still work but case and point. Look at the 2 gifs. He's throwing the exact same combo with drastically different results.

The reason this fight didn't happen is because of Bob Arum. Bob Arum didn't do everything he coudl to make that fight happen. They had the Clottey fight done 24-48 hrs after the negotiations with Golden Boy fell apart. This was a pissing contest between Bob Arum and Floyd and the people at Golden Boy.
Their analysis is correct. Those are opportunities to hit Floyd. However, nobody is gonna throw a leaping left hook to hit a southpaw because it leaves too exposed to get hit with a right hook. Also, Manny & Co. can gameplan all they want but as soon as they implement it Floyd is gonna adjust to it and then what. If Manny wants to beat Floyd he's gonna have to out-think Floyd and make adjustments of his own. Manny has all of the physical tools but does he have the boxing IQ? To this point Manny has simply had to be better physically but he really hasnt' had to play chess inside the ring. He's mainly had to what Freddie tells him to. With Floyd or Shane Mosley he can't simply go in there and just fight hard and throw punches.
He's only 31. Look at Hopkins. He's like 15 years older and he's still the lt-heavyweight king. Look at Ray Robinson in his thirties. And those were 15 round fights. People act like Pacquiao should be fighting like an old man.
Hopkins hasn't been in the wars that Manny was in. The fights with Morales and Marquez were brutal. Even though he was dominant he still showed signs in the Cotto and Clottey fights that he ate some shots. He shouldn't be fighting like an old man, but to train as much as he does should cause some wear and tear on the body. I don't care how much protein you eat or drink, the punishment of training puts extra miles on the body, but somehow he isn't effected by this at all. I don't know what he's taking to recover from those workouts but Ariza would be a very rich man if told the public what supplements Manny was on because as someone that's very active I would love to buy use them.
yes and you can bet he'll do the testing when its convenient for him and wake shane up in the middle of the night just to do multiple tests on him
Are you serious? Floyd will be subjected to the same random testing that Shane is. The testing would be random if Floyd was allowed to test Shane anytime he wanted to.
I don't think you can really count that as a big win for Williams. The fight hadn't even really started yet. Had that been the 8th round you could probably make that argument. I think there are more deserving fighters for the No.3 spot.
Mosley had a contract with Golden Boy. He never had any ownership or stock in the company. B-Hop does and is an official partner. They would have had to buy Mosley out if he was a partner and that wasn't the case. His contract with the company expired and he didn't resign with them.
His feints were effective but Shane let him get to close because Shane throws a pitty-pat jab instead a stiff one. If Manny continually runs into a jab, it makes him adjust and come in a different way. Cotto was rocking Manny's head back with the jab and eventually said f**k it simply overwhelmed Cotto with volume.
If they fought Floyd need not worry about the straight left. The punch that both of them would need to watch out for is Manny's right hook and Floyd check left hook, because both could run into them if they aren't careful.
Hahahaha tell em Floyd!! :boxing: , and he's right of course, the "exposed" comment is alluding to Pac's failure to deal with straight rights ONCE AGAIN and getting caught with double and sometimes TRIPPLE uppercuts throughout the fight, and that's by a fighter who barely punches and is slow as hell, and though Pac clearly won the fight it was interesting to see he had no plan B when it came to cracking Clotteys defence, which is why Floyd believes he's "one dimensional" i guess.
I'm loving the hatred between Floyd and Pac, none of this "lovey dovey" crap Manny had going on with Clottey!! :439: .
You guys got it all wrong and only looked at the fact that Floyd said it. If any other boxing analyst would have said this all of you would have kept your mouths shut.
Floyd analysis is spot on when discussing the actual fight in the ring. The rest of hit was ego talking but when breaking down Manny he was right.
You guys keep looking at this from a stand point of Manny being able to hit Floyd because of speed. Its not Floyd's defense that Roach & Co. should be worried about. Its hits offense. Floyd puts himself in positions to where he can't be countered after hitting his opponent but he can still counter them. Manny ate a lot of left hooks, and straight rights which are Floyd's best punches. If/When they fight, once Floyd establishes the left hook and straight right, the fights over, because one thing that Manny hasn't had to do at this point is make an adjustment in the middle of the fight. He just does the same thing all night long.
I won't say that its fixed but this is the second time in a Manny Pacquiao fight that I've seen his opponents, who do their BEST WORK WHEN THEIR OPPONENTS BACK WAS ON THE ROPES LIKE MANNY'S WERE IN THE COTTO FIGHT AND NOW THE CLOTTEY FIGHT and both Clottey and Cotto didn't little or no work. Why is that? There is a common denominator in play also. Both guys are Top Rank fighters.
When Margarito beat Cotto, Margarito was considered to be the No. 1 guy at 147. Mosley beating Margarito makes him the Champ at 147. Manny's fight with Oscar doesn't really help him because Oscar wasn't a ranked welterweight. He has wins over 1 top welter IMO. Clottey IMO, became a gatekeeper after the Cotto loss.
The only reason Manny fought Clottey is because Bob Arum is still bitter about Floyd leaving Top Rank. They probably already had Clottey in place as an opponent during the negotiations with Golden Boy.
Not legit comparison to make. Ones and apple but the other is an orange. A trainer is in a completely different position and the skillset required is not that of a fighter. In terms of boxing I.Q. both are very smart and you've heard Roach admit that Floyd is a very smart fighter. In terms of one being smarter than the other I would say Roach has more experience in the sport in that he's been a fighter and a trainer. Does that make his boxing I.Q. higher than Floyds, who knows?
What people need to understand is that when have bad officiating sport wide, you are going to lose fans. The scorecard was horrible plain and simple. Its obvious that Mr. Benoist doesn't know more about the sport than we do because if he did he would have had that fight much closer. His scorecard showed that Paul Williams won rounds 3-12. There's no way that happened. I had the fight 115-115.
Couple this bad scorecard with the 2 morons that scored the Funeka fight and the idiot in Texas that scored the Diaz/Malinaggi fight and this demonstrates that you have a serious problem. There plenty of fights in 2009 where the judges blatantly got it wrong. Right now these people don't have to answer to anybody. So it wouldn't bother me if ESPN or a couple of reporters gave them a call.
Jones most notable wins are over James Toney, John Ruiz, Antonio Tarver, B-Hop, Virgil Hill, and Montell Griffin.
B-Hop's notable wins are De La Hoya, Trinidad, Tarver, Glen Johnson, Pavlik, Winky Wright.
The problem is the longer Roy fights the more it hurts his career.
Its gonna be interesting to see how they game plan each other. I have a feeling you'll see a lot of movement from Manny along with a lead straight-left/right hook combination. The one thing I Manny has to be aware of is a counter left hook to the body or head. Cotto straight is effective but its not his best punch.
You see in yer avatar how Mayweather sticks that head up when he punches , he does this everytime he throws that jump in left hook.
Nasim and Mosley KNOW THIS, there is no way they haven't seen it a million times.
Question: Does Mosley possess the speed and timing to counter that jump in left hook ? I believe he does and IF he does and its his patented left hook that he wickedly turns over then Mayweather will go out on a stretcher !
Its when Mayweather throws the leaping left hook is the problem. If Mosley sits back and waits to counter Floyd, he's playing right into Floyd's hands. Floyd has the ability to hit when you didn't think he was in a position to land. Mosley would need to use a good stiff jab to open Floyd up and he doesn't have one nor does he choose to use one.
I'm not saying Manny is on performance enhancers but in going up in weight it seems he gained almost all muscle. That's not easy to do. I'm curious as to what he is taking because those supplements would be flying off the shelves if made public.
How is it that Manny is talking about KO'ing Floyd when Clottey is his next opponent? Is it me or is he looking past Clottey, and could that get him into trouble?
