Salvador Sanchez or Alexis Arguello...can't decide which of these two could be considered the best, but they are the most dominant I've seen at this weightclass.
Dirrell's skills are impresive, but I think he lacks the experience to be a dominant fighter. Ward has adopted a very rough style, similar to what B-Hop did during his career. He grinds you and makes you pay, and we know that he has speed and skills to outbox many fighters, but he has proven to be a very smart fighter as well.
I am Boricua, proud of where I am from. We tend to be extremely proud of all puertoricans that make it big, wether it be in sports or any other area. Our boxers become national celebrities and we follow them to the end. As a puertorican, I DO NOT HATE MEXICANS. I respect my mexican "latino brothers" and their rich culture. I am a big fan of many of their fighters like Salvador Sanchez, Julio Cesar Chavez, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erick Morales, among many others. That being said, there are ignorant people everywhere, even in my country. I know there are many people out there that say and do things that can be offensive to others; but to hate someone because of where they come from or who they root for is quite ignorant. I think the competitive nature of both cultures makes the clashes between mexicans and puertoricans much more entertaining, but it should never be reason for someone to hate another person because of what flag they waive.
If Cotto trains hard and makes the necessary adjustments from the mistakes he made from the first fight, he could take home a win in a rematch. I thought this fight was not possible, I'm glad that things are begining to look up for his one, should be a hell of a fight.
Greetings gents! Thought I'd put my first post here. This fight is going to be interesting. The one thing that Cotto has going for himself is the fact that he is a natural welteweight, so that makes him the bigger man. However, he has a disadvantage going into the fight, that being his corner. We all know that Pacquiao has one of the best trainers around in Freddie Roach, who is going to plan a very good strategy coming into the fight. Cotto's corner is not that experienced, and I believe it can affect him. Although Cotto has the power to affect Manny, it will be interesting to see the strategy that Pacquiao uses to fight him.
Both fights should work well for JMM. Morales and Hatton are way past their best times, so I think that Marquez should be the favorite. These fights are interesting enough to make us want to watch them, but I don't think that these fighters have enough left to cause a concern for Marquez. The one fight I would love to see is Marquez and Valero. That should be a little more difficult to predict.
Dawson - Jones ???
-- not unless for the "changing of the guard kind of thing"
I like the rest though especially Valero-Marquez. I'd like to see if Valero could actually box ( he look good in sparring not in actual fight though ).
That is what I was going for in that fight. I would like to see that "changing of the guard" happen.
Here is my list of fights I would like to see:
Floyd vs Cotto
Floyd vs Mosley
Dawson vs Kessler
Dawson vs Hopkins
Dawson vs Roy Jones
Valero vs Marquez
Valero vs Diaz
Juanma vs Gamboa
Juanma vs Linares (eventually)
Mosley-Margarito, what's surprising is not that he won, its how he did. I never would have believed he'd won by KO, since Margarito has always been known for his iron chin.
Also surprising for me was Darchinyan-Agbeko.
floyd hasn't done shit at WW.
he retired to duck WWs.
he came back to fight a LW / former FW.
no fukkin way floyd is the greatest WW of all time.
Agreed. But to clear things, I never said he was the greatest WW of all time. I just wanted the hardcore Floyd fans to realize that he does need to fight either Mosley or Cotto, true established WW's. Because if his legacy is going to end at WW, he needs to measure himself against the best available opponents at his division.
If he beats Berto (and I am sure he will) he officially becomes the man at welter holding two belts. He'll always have options, especially since he can also make the 154lb class. I would like to see him move up again to face Sergio Martinez.
Since Mayweather will not wait for the winner of the Pac-Cotto fight, he might take a fight in between (if indeed he plans to fight the winner). Here's a list of other welterweights. I excluded the top names, since there is no point in mentioning them because he's only interested in the money fights. Who on this list do you like for him to face next, if you think he's interested in staying active in between fights.
Luis Collazo
Isaac Hlatswayo
Vitaliy Demyanenko
Delvin Rodriguez
Selcuk Aydin
Vyacheslav Senchenko
Yuriy Nuzhnenko
Mayweather hasn't fought a no-name stiff since he fought Sharmba Mitchell seven fights ago. He will fight one of the big three in his next fight. I swear the people on this site are so gullible as to believe anything, especially if its something negative about Mayweather.
You know, normally I do not like to get into exchanges with people obsessed with fighters. I am a boxing fan, I love the sport, so I try not to get involved in arguments that are meaningless. However, in your case I feel the need to correct you. Mayweathers opponents in the welterweight division, excluding Mitchell since you mentioned him already, Judah (coming of a lose to Baldomir, not the best WW at the time), Baldomir (solid but not the best), Hatton (not a welter) and Juan Manuel Marquez (again not a welter). His fight with De la Hoya was at 154, another fighter past his prime.
So you know, if he is saying that he is not waiting for the Pacquiao-Cotto winner (check the link)
http://boxingscene.com/indez.php?m=show&id=22654
then maybe he can fight some of these fighters I listed, since its obvious that he is not looking for better opposition at the moment.
When Trinidad fought he was the only great Puerto Rican boxer, but now theres so meny, Juan Manuel Lopez, Carlos Negron, Luis Del Valle, Ivan Calderon, Miguel Cotto, which could be why hes not so famous in Puerto Rico.....
I'm not an oldtimer, but I have seen many of Wilfredo Gomez fights. If you have a chance watch his fights agains Lupe Pintor and Carlos Zarate. I did not know that much of him before, but after I saw those fights I instantly became a fan.
Juanma is not Mayweather to allow someone to interrupt his moment of triumph and not do something about it. If he does anything like that, I'm pretty sure we'll get a preview of the fight on that night.
Current fighters
With Cotto: When he fought Kelson Pinto
With Mayweather: His fight with Jesus Chavez
With Pacquiao: His first fight with Juan Manuel Marquez (controversy aside, it was very action packed)
Retired fighters
With Trinidad: His fight with Vargas
With Arguello: His fight with Mancini
With Chavez: His fight with Rosario
147.
Remember I said this people, 126 is gonna be the best division in the sport, wait and see.
I agree. 126 is going to be a very excitement division in the years to come. When fighters like Israel Vazquez, Rafael Marquez, Juanma Lopez and Celestino Caballero move up to the division, is going to make it even more interesting to watch them fight against the already established fighters there.
I really can't decide a winner. I'm a big fan of both these fighters, and I've watched both of their careers since day 1. I really never thought they would collide like this in a battle for supremacy. I love watching Cotto fights and Manny Pacquiao fights and root for both of them everytme so I'm excited for November 14th. But is there anyone like me who will hate seeing either one lose? I want Pac to win so that the biggest fight of the past 3 or 4 decades Mayweather vs Pac will get made, but I'll hate to see Cotto lose since the man is humble and has the heart of a lion. Either way it's going to be one hell of a fight on November 14th.. and whatever the outcome I'm probably going to be sad inside. :tragedy:
I'm a big fan of both fighters as well. Pacquiao to me is one of the most important figures in boxing today. He has moved up in weight facing the best the sport has to offer. Cotto has aways been one of my favorite fighters. He has always shown respect towards his opponents, and being puerto rican myself, I can tell you that his arrival after Trinidad's departure meant a lot. Truly, this is a fight between to modern day warriors and it will be a very memorable night for us fans, no matter the outcome.
I'm a Cotto fan and I'm picking Paul Williams. He is an exciting fighter, hope he wins. I like Pavlik also, he will always have the power to get to Williams. Its going to be interesting.
Cintron-Santos is an interesting fight. I also wouldn't mind if they throw Quinatana into the mix. Maybe Quintana vs Cintron and the winner can take on Santos.
