Well, considering that Manny's other endeavors outside of boxing hasn't met with success, It's a safe assumption he ain't winning the elections again. Filipinos don't go to watch his movies nor concerts, it's pretty obvious they only want him in boxing. Now if he wins the elections, that would be a new low for the country.
The term politician is practically synonymous with evil crook in the Philippines.
nice dig.
I'm rooting for Pacquiao. Hell, I want him to win, just to teach Floyd the value of humility, but if I'm gonna put down real money right now on a bet, I'll go with Floyd at both weights. That might still change though, depending on the outcome of the Mayweather-Mosley fight.
Won't Pac's "running for office" distract him ?
Quite the contrary actually, I think the fight taking place on March 13 will make Pac a lot more motivated to win against anyone in the ring. It's his best chance to make his people vote for him, when they're still all happy and singing praises for him, provided he wins.
The reason 2 dates for the fight are floated around is this:
May 1 - the fight happens if Pac runs uncontested for the position, thus making him winner by default. No need to go on a campaign tour, etc and instead use the time to train for the fight.
Unfortunately, somebody decided to run against Pac, which means he will have to try real hard to convince people to vote for him. If you ask most Filipinos, they love Pac, but not in a way that they'd put him into congress. Thus...
March 13 - election campaign period is from March 25 up to May 8. It doesn't matter to Pac who he fights on that date, as long as he gets to fight (and win, of course). He thinks it'll help people remember his name, come election time. Remember, he lost in the previous election for the same position.
I would be much worried if Pac/May happens later in the year and he lost the election. He might not be inclined to dedicate the fight to his countrymen if they let him down on the elections :lol1:
I don't believe GBP/Floyd will be that stupid to make a fight with Campbell. It would be better to not fight at all in March and just wait for Mosley/Berto winner for the belts.
Still, there's a really very small spot on the back of my mind that thinks Floyd/Campbell is more of a possibility than Floyd/P-Will. :guilty:
Must be all the coffee I've had. :thinkerg:
"Shane came to the gym twice to ask me to let him fight Manny," Roach says. "I told him no both times, and both times for the same two reasons: First, there isn't enough money there, and second, you're too good a fighter."
lol, Roach dissed and praised Mosley in the same sentence.
That quote does indeed suggest Roach didn't want Pac to fight Mosley. Technically, it's not Manny but Roach, since Pac seems to me like a cannon who you just have to point in the right direction and watch him carve a path of destruction, but your point still stands.
Looking at it in another view, this shows Roach guided Pac's career very nicely. Pac is lucky to have someone like that in his side, or he would never have made it this big.
I think Mayweather catches a lot of heat so much for ducking because of his villain persona in the media and the fact that he's been fighting at welter for more than 4 years now. Compare it to Pac whose first fight against a legit welter was Cotto, just 3 months ago. There are lots of fighters who had been at welter far longer than Pac, but has yet to get a shot at a big name fight.
What a letdown though, I'd like to see Mosley-Pac go at it, but I guess this ain't happening with Roach not open to the idea. Perhaps Roach isn't really confident yet in Pac? I'm of the mind that he probably didn't even think the little Filipino would get this far.
i think there are just too many people speaking for him.
This. Too many people around Pac probably thinking they knew what he would want then later have their words thrown back at them.
especially since we have Roach on record (check the siggy) saying talking about he is fine with a 5 day window
Problem is, it was Pacquiao who did not want to be tested close to the fight.
Roach can only do so much. In the end, Pacquiao has the final word on things.
Floyd and Pac just blew out the biggest payday they could get, but more than that, they also passed out on the chance to put greater attention on the sport of boxing. Boxing fans lose out on this as well.
I damn Floyd and Manny both. Each one is just as liable as the other for not making the fight happen.
Arum probably won't want to deal with Floyd again after all the failed talks. Pacquiao is the only one who can overrule Bob at this point, if he thinks 14days will be acceptable to him. But Floyd will probably just say, "I made that offer yesterday, and your response came too late. As it is, I stand by my original demand of random blood tests up to the day of the fight" and everything goes to the crapper again.
I'm tired of all the BS. Just make the fight.
I expect Manny to accept Floyd's offer because he's going to get a lot of pressure from his fans in the PI when they hear about Floyd's deal.
I really hope Pac accepts the offer, but regarding fan pressure in the Philippines, I doubt it. Manny surrounds himself with yes men constantly singing praises he probably can't hear others.
He seems oblivious to the fact that most filipinos only want to see him as a boxer. His latest movie "wapakman" tanked so bad, never even reached 1million pesos in tickets sold when the other competing filipino movies raked in as much as 40million pesos over the holiday period. That alone should tell him something of what the general population's consensus, not to mention he lost in the previous election.
There's like a zillion of them. First Pacquiao only wants March because of the elections, then he wants the date pushed back, then Mayweather wants 154, he wants 10 oz gloves, etc...
Everyone yapping about how so and so is "scared" and "ducking". Like they'd rather the biggest fight in boxing to not happen just so they can bash one fighter and continue to ride the nuts of their man-crush. Their homosexual feelings toward the fighters they like take precedence over the good of the sport.
As long as both fighters are healthy, they'll fight.
True that. Also I don't expect the negotiations to be finalized until January at the most, what with the holidays and all. This fight will be made, I'm sure. Only the minor details are being ironed out.
Nuthuggers and haters just jump on every opportunity to bash either boxer perhaps in an attempt to make themselves feel good in doing so. Pathetic really, but entertaining in some way.
:alcoholic
Pac should have demanded that tests be done on Unce Roger and Floyd Sr too.
Frankly, I would be shocked if any of those two elder blokes come up negative :lol1:
1. Morales 2. Barrera 3. Marquez
That's the ranking
Morales-------Barrera------Marquez
Pacquiao(27)----Hamed-------Barrera(33)
Barrera ---------Morales--------Cassamayor(37)
Jones ----------McKinney-------J.Diaz
Chavez --------Tapia ----------Medina
Zaragoza ------Salud ----------Gainer
Chi -------------- Ayala ---------Juarez
Hernandez----- Juarez ----------Peden
McCullough-----A. Sanchez------Salido
Ayala -----------Peden ----------Polo
----------1----------2----------3
I agree. This is my personal ranking of them as well.
Alas, we're in a forum, where everyone has their own opinion. But just as the saying goes:
"Opinions are like anuses, everybody got one and they all stink." :p
There's lots of articles saying Pacquiao don't want to get his blood taken, I've read one that says he doesn't want to do it within 30 days from fight and then there's another that says Roach won't allow it within 48 hours from fight. What is it exactly?
I for one don't want to get blood taken from me if the fight is within a few days. There were times when the nurse taking my blood had to stick needle more than 3times just to hit the proper vein, and that left the puncture area bruised and my arm feeling weak for several days.
I don't think the fight's gonna happen anymore. Of course I want it to, but considering the egos of both men, I dunno. So I'm gonna go with whatever, yo. If it happens, good. If not, I hope they both retire already, as there's no other compelling fights for them.
He's 40-0 and he retired because he have nothing else to proof.
Going by your standard, Joe Calzaghe, Rocky Marciano, Ji Won Kim, Terry Marsh, Michael Loewe, Ricardo Lopez, Pichit Sitbangprachan, Harry Simon and Sven Ottke are greater than him. Why, you ask? They have more wins than your lord Floyd when they retired and all were undefeated as well.
I'm interested for sure, but it's not compelling enough for me to order it on PPV. I just feel that this rematch happened too late, like more than a decade and a half late.
Nevertheless, it is astonishing that Lee managed to punch his opponent “like 15 times” in “11 seconds.”
I remember somebody posted a gif in the cotto fight where Pac threw a 12-punch combo in 4seconds. So was that extra-astonishing or what?
But, I'd really like to have seen Bruce Lee alive and have fought say, in MMA where he could use both his hands and feet. It would be probably flashy and devastating at the same time.
LOL he was probably trying to say he felt like he was the one who got beat up for paying for the overall shit card.
Like he was debating whether to order it on PPV or not, he eventually gave in and now he blames himself for doing so.:ugh::smashfrea
Not really surprising. One would assume that people belonging to those kinds of organizations like to watch violent events.
Hell, a mayor in southern Philippines who massacred 58 people in cold blood has always watched pacquiao fight in vegas.
I've read an article back then that several people who are part of Manny's entourage have screwed him at one point or another.
So, yes Manny's team takes advantage of him. Filipinos are notorious for leeching and screwing other people when they see an opportunity. The sad thing is Manny doesn't seem bothered by it. He's just too kind (or naive) for his own good.
that was the highlight of the entire card.
Nah, that's the second-rated highlight. The best highlight was when the cheerleaders sang the US national anthem.
On topic, that punch was quite unexpected and hilarious. Never thought I'd see Pac do that. I'd prefer to call it the "Cymbal Pac Punch".
That's funny...I didn't know he was having concerts like that...I though his singing was for "free event" purposes...
Same here, I was like wtf, a paid concert for real? Dude's a bit off in the head if he still can't connect the dots after all the flopped movies and tv sitcoms in the Philippines.
I remember reading on some news that Michael Phelps was eating 10000-12000 calories a day in his training.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7562840.stm
That combination may not sound very healthy, and at a staggering 10,000 calories, would feed five average men for a day.
But the menu is reportedly all in a training day's eating for champion swimmer Michael Phelps, who won six gold medals in the 2004 Athens Olympics and is aiming for eight this time round.
He burns more calories sitting at a desk than a lot of people burn walking.
http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/Michael-Phelps?urn=oly,100671
The Olympic star recently said he consumes 12,000 calories per day, or 9,500 more than the FDA recommends for an active, young male.
Phelps has to keep his intake up in order to compensate for all the calories he burns during the 30-hours per week he spends in training.
Granted Phelps was over 6feet tall and 200lbs, still 10-12k is damn huge. But then athletes like him wouldn't be accomplishing incredible feats if they were just as ordinary as the rest of us.
As for Pac's 7000 a day, it's probably possible given the reports on the way he's training.
Obviously, the terms shot, damaged goods, old geezer, past his prime and weight drained cannot be applied to clottey, so instead he took a dive, fight is rigged. I wonder what other excuse some people would make up next, or have we seen/heard it all?
I think I was much more excited--with what excuses the haters would come up this time--than I was of the fight itself.
In reality, about half or more than half of all philippine congressmen just collect their paychecks and allowances. That's why it's a fukked up country, economically and politically.
So Pacquiao being out of action for a few months is actually just formality if he wins. The time off will be likely used to move into the office and gather lawyers who will advise him or do the actual job for him, (it's been done before by a senator). He can fight anytime if he has to. It's not like his constituents are gonna miss him in congress or anything. I like Pacquiao in the ring, but outside of that is another matter entirely.
Floyd isn't even in the roster of characters in Fight Night Round 3 and 4, so the chances of him having a game in his name is slim. The best he can probably have is to be featured in the cover art in the next fight night game.
