dempsey was known to pick guys up
He was also known to stand over then and knock them down when they got up. :D
I would say when Glen Johnson was fighting George Jones and he asked the ref to stop the fight because he saw Jones was out of it. That was pretty cool. Then when Tszyu did the whole passing of the torch thing to Hatton after their fight, saying he was proud of him and whatnot.
Yeah, I don't have HBO anymore (really sucks) so I have to go to a spors bar to see HBO fights but since I'm not 21, I can't sit at the bar so I'm always way behind the tv. I need to get HBO haha
its like asking de la hoya to make 130 again there body is not capable of doing this anymore
Then he shouldn't have said he was 139 on Monday and he shouldn't have signed the dotted line. How the fuck do you come in 138 for Rolando Reyes and 140 for Corrales?
I don't see how Hatton can be in the lb4lb ratings based on his last fight, isn't this supposed to be on current form??
I'm not going to make excuses for Hatton, he did perform below his expectations but he still won. Excluding Hatton but still including Taylor, Barrera and Pacquiao would be a bit of a double standard imo.
SRKO -- The only qualm i have is hatton being rated above marquez...who has clearly done more in his career than has hatton.
Not sure about that one bro. It all depends how you stack Austin, Vargas and Mabuza up against Tszyu, Massua and Collazo. I tend to favor Hatton there but that takes nothing away from Marquez. He still remains one of my favorite fighters.
When I rank a fighter compared to others in their division, I usually do it based on accomplishments and skill among other things. I don't consider who can beat who because as boxing evolves, fighters will get better and top fighters of the more modern days will be able to beat top fighters from the past. In most cases anyways.
Jirov was an excellent cruiserweight. The pre-fight buildup around that fight was INTENSE. It lived up to its name.
Ill agree that his record at HW is laughable at best.
I remember the fight ;) Still, that 1 victory doesn't justify the 2 years of doing nothing.
Surley you mean post cruiser weight...
No I really don't. He beat a 40 year old MaCullum and Jirov. That's about it. Jirov is fairly impressive but it won't blow anyone out of the water. He was champion but the division was paper thin.
Close, but no cigar, Run!
The system's was first used for Tony Canzoneri, a jr welterweight.
However, SRR was the one who brought the Pound for Pound system to fruition.
It was designed to rate fighters based on overall skill and quality of opposition and take size out of the equation.
Obviously, the number 1 heavyweight could beat anyone else, but he may not be the most skilled.
Well, to play the devil's advocate, Toney is perhaps the most skillful of today's heavyweights. He's basically a middleweight in heavyweight frame now. But his quality of opposition post light heavyweight is an illusion.
It nearly same as mine but I would change some abit, I would take out Castillo and put Corrales and he would be inthe the 7th and take Marquez and put Cotto instead even though i though he was going to lose to Paulie and ofcourse Hopkins how could anyone forget him he is 41 and still beat Tarver another bad predication by me.
I strongly considered taking Castillo out. I really did, that was probably my most difficult decision. Had I not selected Castillo it would have been Arce. And no way can I take Marquez out. Marquez is the most underrated fighter today imo. Hopkins is retired and this is an active list. Besides, I still don't think he would be on the list. He's lost 2 of his last 3. I know those 2 losses could have gone either way, but they are losses none the less.
^^haha yea i know, i was jk
ima stay loyal to jeff tho, unlike bandwagoners. im glad to see ppl jump off so the tru fans can root by themselves. jeffs gotta keep training, and get back on top.
Yup, but I would have traded a bandwagon for a win hahaha
I was so sad last night, it was crazy. I had people over and everything.
Stacey Goodman has been hyping him to the high heavens and well...I wasn't impressed. I like Stacey and all, very entertaining guy but I don't know if I would label Chapman someone for me to look out for.
First off, what was with the left hand being so low? He has the stance of a very slick and nimble fighter but his footwork and upperbody movement is lackluster at best. I wouldn't have much problem with that if he didn't have that left way down low. Somebody better correct that problem and fast.
Then there was his footwork. Whenever Hicks would come straight ahead and charge in, Chapman would turn into an NFL cornerback and backpedal. It was very sloppy. Luckily for Chapman, Hicks was coming in throwing wide hooks so J.D. could just step in and clinch. Once he gets in the ring with someone who can come in with a jab and straight then Chapman is going to be in serious trouble imo.
I just thought it was a terrible performance. I don't mean to be to hard on the kid, and I would love it if he proved me dead wrong and became something but he looked bad. Honestly, who is his trainer? They should be ashamed of themselves. He was backing up completely squared up to Hicks, that's a recipe for disaster. Sure he has an impressive record, but let's hope he doesn't step up in competiton for quite some time.
I love when people say "He hasn't fought anybody" Well no shit because noone has given him a fight! Everyone was unproven at one point...it all depends on when someone gives him a shot. In Margarito's case, noone has given him a shot and post like this do nothing. If noone gives him a shot, then there is an asterisks over everyone in the division's head.
I don't think he would beat PBF, PBF is one of my favorite fighters to but he must give Margarito a shot. He has to.
Santos gave him a fight.
And I thought he was beating Santos. And that was at 154 lbs. But the guy has been ranked #1 in the Ring ever since the Lujan fight but noone has even offered him a fight.
You know, you can learn more about boxing and the mechanics of boxing watching two bad fighters boxing then you can 2 world class fighters imo. So 12 fights is a little excessive but if I am going to an event, I am there early and am watching every fight watching every second of it.
yeah they were all televised. and essentially boring uneventful fights. with the exception of hopoate and tyrone the cyclone no fighter distinguished themself and by the time the main event started at 1030! the yawns had set in.
Ok, then that's where I have a problem. If they pushed the main event that far back then that undercard is excessive.
Do you have the Slug out number quickly to post? I would appreciate it.
This would be a banner moment for internet history. I'm going to look at all those videos now and just crack up even more hahah
same here. It sounds like theres way too much evidence to just label her a money grabber. Whats this crap about kidnapping the kid to get rid of the evidence?!? If he said that, I'd be scared for others to know where I was too.
Evidence? It's all just what she claims he said. Pacquiao is a national hero, I'm sure she got A LOT of money to tell that story to that paper.
In regards to the question this thread asks,
I'd have to go with Emanuel Augustus vs Courtney Butron.
One judge had it 99-90 for Burton, and Augustus had clearly won about 9 rounds to 1. An idiot couldn't have scored that fight for Burton, yet two of the judges gave it to him, one as a shut out.
It was in Michigan, and on Friday night fights Teddy Atlas went balastic. He was cussing out people from the Michigan state Athletic commission, and the fights met with protest and disgust at the venue and across the boxing world.
I've never seen another fighter almost totally shut out his opponent only to see a shut out score favoring the opponent.
It was unbelieveable, and still makes me sick to think about it. Good, now I don't have to type out a post, you did it for me. That was the most absurd decision I have ever seen, words can't even convey how BS that was. In fact, it was so BS that at the sound of the 10th round bell, I left the room and went to out to eat dinner rather then listen to the decision. Then a few days later, I was browsing through boxrec, and I saw Augustus lost. I KNEW it was a boxrec mistake since I watched the fight. So I went to the boxrec forums, and said I was sure Augustus won the fight, and they told me he was robbed. Honestly, that was the worst, I've been mad at decisions plenty of times, but I've never been in complete and utter shock and denial. It was surreal.
I almost didn't vote since I disagreed with almost all the choices
You forgot
Rahman out of the ring...
Elijah Tillery kicking Riddick Bowe
Fanman
Holyfield getting his ear bitten off
Augustus dancing...
I could go on really. But I still think its Zab doing the chicken dance.
bullshit, what a fucking cowardly liar. he's full of shit and only his faggot fans that like him b/c he's white will believe that shit. Why wouldn't he unify all the belts with easy victories if he's so good? Cause he's full of shit. Good riddance to this coward.
Well, this does basically prove that he quit and wasn't really injured.
Thats what I hate about these boards, a lot of people here don't know how to convey a point without going overboard with the cussing. I hope you realize that it takes away from the professionalism of your post, and really detracts from the point you are trying to make.
That being said, I agree, Vitali is basically admitting he will rehab for Lennox and noone else. That goes against everything boxing stands for.
Wow...great topic. I watched both just last night. As much as I loved (in a sadistic kind of way) Castillo-Corrales round 10, Hagler - Hearns round 1 was most definitely the greatest round of all time.
