i just saw the KO, but only the KO. i noticed champman's record a while ago:
now 22-0 with 20 KOs, 6'6, 23 years old, 260lbs, intresting.
any comments on this guy?
Stacey Goodman has been hyping him to the high heavens and well...I wasn't impressed. I like Stacey and all, very entertaining guy but I don't know if I would label Chapman someone for me to look out for.
First off, what was with the left hand being so low? He has the stance of a very slick and nimble fighter but his footwork and upperbody movement is lackluster at best. I wouldn't have much problem with that if he didn't have that left way down low. Somebody better correct that problem and fast.
Then there was his footwork. Whenever Hicks would come straight ahead and charge in, Chapman would turn into an NFL cornerback and backpedal. It was very sloppy. Luckily for Chapman, Hicks was coming in throwing wide hooks so J.D. could just step in and clinch. Once he gets in the ring with someone who can come in with a jab and straight then Chapman is going to be in serious trouble imo.
I just thought it was a terrible performance. I don't mean to be to hard on the kid, and I would love it if he proved me dead wrong and became something but he looked bad. Honestly, who is his trainer? They should be ashamed of themselves. He was backing up completely squared up to Hicks, that's a recipe for disaster. Sure he has an impressive record, but let's hope he doesn't step up in competiton for quite some time.
Champman has faced in the words of a espn commentater he has fought extremely limited opposition.Being 21-0(19) and fighting a guy who is only 7-0(7) isn't a step in the right direction imo especially when his comp. was limited as well.I'm not going to be too harsh on him because he showed some skill and had no amatuer experience.McCline did pretty well in his pro career with only one amatuer fight so it's not out of the question that he could accomplish something in his career.Plus he's a big white american heavyweight and sadly that can translate in a successful career.
he didnt have an amatuer career though...he needs to take baby steps.

he does a lot of things wrong
I was hoping to see a more talented fighter in JD Chapman because of his glossy record but mostly all I saw is a big guy moving around the ring, sometimes going straight back with his hands down, and even turning away from Hicks after he was chased down to the ropes. Hicks was out of shape, and that's a flattering assessment of his condition. Chapman has a bit of power but nothing special for a man that big. Remember Gerry Cooney? He was better than Chapman, much better. Maybe Chapman can improve but I didn't get a good impression at all. After watching a guy like Alexander Povetkin fight, Chapman looked like a bum. Of course that's being a little harsh but I'm sick of big heavyweights that don't have skills.
His camp is moveing him along nicely there pading his record with guys that have good records so it makes him look good. He does need to drop about 20 pounds or so
Ya CHAPMAN really is just a guy whos fought nobodies IE tonights fight, i think he lacks the skills to do anything of prominence, and will have a pretty impressive rec until he actually fights a FIGHTER!

thats badbloods #1contender, ive seen him fight once when moorer was training him, i wasnt very impressed, but he is young and no amateur career so he has room to improve. plus he should weigh more like 240-245
