Can anyone honestly name anyone credible in boxing that isn't biased that has called Mayweather TBE or GOAT? I always thought that was a title he gave himself to brainwash his fans.
I hate to say it, but I think it's because MMA is peaking interest in kids more-so than boxing these days and we're seeing a decline in the talent pool. Without any kind of governing body or a brand that boxing could use (think UFC) to spark interest in kids, we'll probably continue to see a decline for quite some time.
It's like US Soccer. The international team has always been mediocre because kids tend to gravitate to the more popular sports like football, baseball. With the concussion issue in football, less kids are playing football and participation in both youth soccer and baseball is on the rise. I think we'll see much better players in a few years.
Just my opinion.
Pre Marquez maybe, I don't know. In Bradley 2 no power Bradley was backing him up. I worry his chin may be cracked from that Marquez KO.
I can agree with you, but it could have been because Pac was trying to anything and everything not be robbed again. With Mayweather's KO record (and his last KO being a "sucker punch" on Ortiz), I can't see Mayweather bringing to the table that would hurt him. the first knockdown Marquez landed, he was leading the right to the body the entire time. Then he led with the right to the head and Pac defended the body and got knocked down. That punch in that situation would have put most boxers down.
I just think Pac is going to land a few on those off-angle punches and honestly see Mayweather going down at least once.
I just hope this is the type of fight both fighters leave everything in the ring and all of our "Sunday morning couch" opinions are put to rest. I honestly hope this fight lives up to the hype.
Being a fan of neither, I honestly can't wait for boxing to go back to boxing and the fan base not be split between Mayweather or Pacquiao. sure, both fighters brought popularity to the sport, but they've also created this idea that boxing doesn't go deeper than either of them.
**** breaking this fight down. who really cares? This is boxing history heading our way and we're all going to be part of it!!! I have a preference who I want to win, but seriously, I can't think of a fight making a bigger impact in the sport when Douglas ko'd Tyson. I can think of better fights, but I can't think of a fight making bigger ripples in the sport in my era.
I wonder what the ratio of people in this forum that youtube Manny's fights to rewatch compared to Mayweather's. I'm willing to bet more Mayweather fans rewatch Pac's fights than rewatching Mayweather's.
Disagree strongly with stamina, I believe Pac has better stamina, Floyd has better chin and defence doe.
Speed - PAC (close)
Stamina - Pac
Chin - Floyd
Defence - Floyd
Accuracy - Close but Floyd
Foot speed - Pac
Reach - Floyd
How does Floyd have a better chin? Because Marquez ko'd him and Pacquaio has taken risks to get a punch? I specifically remember Mosley and Maidana rocking Mayweather. Because Mayweather has such good defense and doesn't get hit as much as Pac because Pac takes risks, it seems to judge he has a better chin. Pacquaio has, without a doubt been in way more wars than Mayweather and has his chin checked multiple times. I'm neutral in this fight because I only watch both their fights just to watch them lose since my favorite fighters are outside of both, but I honestly think Pac has the better chin and Pac will hit more clean punches against Mayweathwer than anyone and his chin will finally be checked.
Yes, Mayweather has those surprise counters and leads, but I seriously he's going to land a Marquez type punch. In an unbiased opinion, I think Pacquaio has the better chin.
Pre Marquez maybe, I don't know. In Bradley 2 no power Bradley was backing him up. I worry his chin may be cracked from that Marquez KO.
I'm a big Manny fan I truly believe this is going to be one hell of a fight.
I'm skimming through Mayweather Maidana 2 and it makes me feel very very confident that Manny could potentially humiliate Mayweather.
I agree with you. I feel this will be Manny's fight.
Lol! Has Chavez Jr ever been relevant? seriously, who the **** is he? He's that guy that weight-drains to the middleweight division that rides on his Dad's coattails and fights middleweights at 175 in the ring. I'm not a boxing perfectionist, but it's pretty clear from this doc that boxing tried to make a name of Chavez and clearly lost. It sucks that Martinez was at the forefront of this social experiment.
See that's thing I don't give a **** if your lying or telling the truth. But what I do know is this. When you reached my body count the only thing that remotely differ about pssy is being with someone you haven't been with before. In five minutes after that wears of it's only pssy. Word to the wise for you boys who don't get pssy next time you in the club get drunk dance smile have fun. Don't talk or approach one single girl in the whole club. But dance to every song and keep a drink in your hand. See how many women come make conversation with you.
Quoting for stupidity.
Much quicker?
Cotto took him out in the early stages of the 4th round
GGG took him out in three rounds, with a 4 minute long opening round - seems like they both took out Geale at the same time roughly
Quoted for truth.
Hate to say this, but I haven't seen a better set up left hook or left hook to the body since Roach came aboard for Cotto.
We can argue if Roach is a good trainer or not, but the truth is, Roach has given Cotto confidence and it shows.
Watch Canelo vs Kirkland. I get everyone wants GGG vs Cotto, but Cotto specifically said Canelo was next and if GGG was available after, he would be next.
The Canelo that fought Kirkland would be destroyed by Cotto. I'm on the fence with GGG vs Cotto. Cotto is my favorite fighter, but I feel GGG might take him. However, Canelo vs Cotto and GGG vs the winner will be more competitive fights than we've seen in boxing for a long time with as much at stake.
he was clearly hesitant when asked if he wanted to fight golovkin. he couldnt find his words then he finally came to his senses and wisely said... "why not?". its obvious that he wants no part of GGG.
after cotto's performance tonight, golovkin retires him no question.
No he didn't. He clearly said after the Canelo fight.
He has done nothing for boxing. Under the "Mayweather era" you saw boxing popularity hit all time lows in the US and migrate to Europe & Asia, where the champions are less abhorrent.
I agree 100%. I can't wait until Mayweather is gone and I'm saying this as a person that roots for anyone that fights Pacquiao (Sorry, I'm just not a Pacquaio fan), so this isn't a Mayweather/Pacquiao discussion. I'm not the only one that thinks the Mayweather clan is toxic to boxing and the fact that he declares himself as, "G.O.A.T" and people buy into that? I'm really looking forward to his retirement.
Koraun ain't nothin but ah p@ct@rd. He man uh many things but ah master of nothin. TMT don't even like Koraun he ain't cool at all bruh. TBE is dah past present and future of boxing. Just wait till he fight Swift who is a better boxer then Pakiow anyways. At least he a rich coward doe! Stewww! Oh what you haterz got now!
I was going to say something quasi-racist until I saw the way you spelled, "Pacquiao" and knew you're joking. Nobody can be that dumb.
I'm one of May's biggest fans for what he does in the sport of boxing and in business too. But that's got nothing to do with stuff like this. This is sad. It's more sad though that so many people get joy out of his faults that cause misery to his family. I got no respect for what's gone on in his personal life like this and think a lot of it is likely true and I hope he comes to realize where he's gone wrong and turn it around before it ruins him. He's earned about everything a man can want in life but his kid's respect and that's a shame for real.
Note to crazy biased posters: No matter what happens in Floyd's life outside the ring, it does not count as a win over him inside the ring. You can stop getting excited over it like it is. It's weak.
What he's done for boxing? You mean bringing in the type of fans that don't see boxing outside of Mayweather? Do you know how many times I've found myself in conversations with Mayweather fans only to find out they don't know Whitaker, Lennox, Morales vs Barrera trilogy, Ward vs Gatti trilogy? Mayweather has turned boxing into pop culture (in a very bad way). Actually, I compare him to Taylor Swift; great talent, bad for their respective culture. Mayweather turned boxing in a world star type environment and he's done nothing for boxing except turn into a pop culture brouhaha (you might need to google that word) and now we're going to see nothing but Mayweather clones (Broner) for the next ten years.
YEs, Mayweather has skills, but he's turned the art of pugilism into a freak show joke. I'm 38 and grew up with boxing and I can tell you, just like many other purists will agree, Mayweather has turned boxing into a joke. Mayweather has created a fan base that's a clear joke. Skills or not, Mayweather is the epitome of a joke and the majority of his fans, well, I laugh at them.
Now, to add to the recent article (USA Today is far from a satire site (can't believe people are are suggesting it's fake)) with his son's testimony, I will never take any other Mayweather fan seriously from this point on. Mayweather fans might see him laying on a table with 20 strippers around him as an accomplishment or use the excuse, "he's rich, doe," but let's face it, boxing is done with Mayweather, boxing fans are done with Mayweather. Mayweather fans are nothing but a joke now.
Pacquiao, Khan, and Lara have the best chance out of all of them
This is off topic, but I'd take Messi over Ronaldo any day in the World Cup. Reynaldo is one hell of a club player, just not on the international big stage.
I give Khan a shot. He possesses qualities Fraud generally avoids. Speed, determination, will to win, and volume punches at that.
The last 2 fastest opponents I can remember Jr. facing weren't volume punchers of any kind, Judah and Mosley. In fact both are known for looking for the 1 punch in many fights as well as falling apart mentally when the going gets tough.
Pacquiao and Khan possess the abilities that Fraud generally avoids.
Let's not forget, before Judah lost his composure, he was beating floyd's ass.
he didn't adjust to maidana until midway through the fight. khan's speed and movement will give him even more trouble. he isn't a plodder like mayweather likes them. you guys are cracking me up thinking floyd can score a KO. The only time floyd scored a legit KO at WW was against Hatton. He might look ok late but by then the fight will be lost
I didn't say he would score a ko. I said I think he would try. And don't refer to me as "you guys." I'm not a Mayweather fan at all. I was just trying to give an honest opinion how the fight would go.
If I wasn't trying to speak with some kind of intelligence, I would say Khan would work him up and down. Truthfully, I don't think that's the case.
Floyd would be favored, and he would resort to his usual leap in right hand to immediate holding to tie Khan up. That's what he would do against Pac too.
I think what would give May trouble against Pac is Pac's ability to side-step then punch. The same punch he ko'd Algeri with and has landed numerous times against everyone including Clottey and Margarito. Not to mention his ability to predict punches. The only reason Marquez (keep in mind Marquez is one of my favorite fighters) was able to KO him is because he was trying to land that punch everytime they fought.
Back to the Khan opinion, I think Khan may be able to adjust to that. I honestly see Khan being able to counter the lead right/grab technique. Only if he doesn't allow himself to get hit in the process.
Sometimes I think Mayweather can hurt him, e.g. when you see Khan get hurt by Julio Diaz.
Then other times, like the last round against Garcia where Khan is eating bomb after flush bomb and not going down, or the 9th/10th v Maidana when he stayed up...Mayweather can't punch like those guys.
But maybe Floyd won't need to hurt him, and maybe he'll easily outbox Khan. If so, he'll deserve all the credit he gets because good pure boxers like Malignaggi, Alexander and Kotelnik could barely win a round.
It would be an interesting fight for sure. Maybe Khan with his long jab could expose something in Mayweather.
khan's blazing hand speed, combination punching and workrate have him ducking amir like the plague. he's mayweather's worst nightmare. khan easily decisions mayweather. lets face it floyd has no shot. his only chance would be a KO as Khan's superior workrate would blitz him out of the ring. he'd look old. his feather fists would prove his undoing. pretty much any real student of the sport sees it this way. floyd knows it himself. that's why he is thinking about cashing out with pacman to avoid khan. amir is the last man he ever wants to see on the opposite side of the ring because we all know its a sure loss
Does anyone really give Khan's jaw a chance is the better question. Mayweather is known for punches you can't see. What's Khan's weakness? Punches he can't see. I honestly feel Mayweather would try and ko Khan if they fought. Not saying he would, but I feel he'd try and he's smart enough to have a good chance at it happening.
I think it would be an interesting fight for sure because of Khan's speed, but I think Mayweather would adjust in the first few rounds and win the fight.
Is he? I don't think so. That's a trait of fighters with blinding speed such as Pacquiao and Khan.
I think the main danger for Khan is Floyd's timing and accuracy, he's good enough to land multiple punches right on the button (Khan's chin), the question then becomes does he have the power to hurt Amir with one of these shots.
I'm not sure.
Timing, to me, would be punches you can't see. Mayweather's left hook counter or straight right after a double jab would fall into the category of, "punhes Khan can't see." May does lead with the straight right a lot, but he also baits opponent with a jab/right. Once the opponent adjusts to the jab/right, he'll come at you with a double jab the straight right. If you watch the tape, he almost always lands this combo against everyone. The only question is if Khan's jaw can handle that.
I like Khan. I really do. He's accurate as ****. He has speed and power, but he doesn't have the jaw. He just doesn't. I hope he's been working out his neck muscles to absorb the flush blows Mayweather will be hitting him with, because Mayweather is just as accurate.
Call me stupid, but it looks like he just pinches the napkin to re-position it before apply the napkin to his face to wipe Maidana's nose. In fact, it's pretty clear he turns the napkin after the pinch.
