I think it's safe to say that Trout is chinny,he's been knocked Down in each of his last 3 fights, while Cotto has shown the ability to knock guys 20 lbs heavier than him through the ropes.Has Cotto at age 34 suddenly developed other worldly power or was Geale a zombie?
I remember trout effectively using his reach and keeping cotto at the end of his jab, cotto wasn't his agressive self in that fight and allowed trout to fight him on the outside which is bad strategy considering he was the smaller fighter
Shows how terrible geale is that despite dwarfing cotto he wasn't able to use his size to his advantage. I actually never want to see geale again. He ditched this fight.
What.... you mean straight quitting twice on his feet primetime HBO lights warrants that kind of criticism :biggthump
I think Cotto was a bit out of sorts around that time. Didn't look in the best shape, maybe had question marks over Pedro Diaz.
Trout was in a good place himself back then, i think it was a bad match-up stylistically.
It looks now like he's back in love with the sport. Roach has raised his confidence levels, and has him fighting how he likes to fight.
Cotto did hurt Trout made his leg wobble he also did it too Floyd but they recovered quick and it didn't last long so it wasn't obvious or clearly noticeable.
Cotto is coming forward and planting his feet Diaz had him fighting on the backfoot moving which messed his psyche up Roach has him on the prowl.
Diaz having him fight on the backfoot was great for the Margaritto fight. But yeah they should've changed tactics for the opponents.
He wasn't in great physical shape when he first moved up, he was soft to the body. He's better conditioned now, and definitely hitting harder.
First moved up?
He'd been there for 2 years at that point.

A big factor is speed. Geale couldn't handle Cotto's speed. He couldn't avoid getting hit and he couldn't land punches to keep Cotto at bay. Trout could see and react to punches better and was able to land shots to keep Cotto back at times.
Even if Geale didn't drain for this fight, he was going to get tagged by Cotto throughout this fight.
The trainer that he had at the time wanted him to box instead of going forward harder. Plus Trout came in very prepared, you can't discount that either
LMAO Cotto looks like a shot feather fisted fighter every time he fight someone with a pulse then looks like hulk every time he fights a cripple. But its Roach who's making all the difference!!!!!!!!!!!
You do know canelo is crippled right? He broke his ankle during training camp.... Thats why cotto is fighting him next. As soon as cotto lands a hook to canelos head his ankle will spark and you haters will get another crippled on the list. When GGG breaks something then we can talk as of now hes 100% so it aint happening next.

Geale was a zombie, Rodriguez was a nobody and Martinez had no knees.
That's the simply truth. Having said that, Cotto still showed tremendous skill in there last night, it's that ability to keep up work rate and sharp, accurate punching which is more impressive than the delusion of power some believe Cotto has.
Against Trout, Cotto found a taller guy who could actually box pretty well and was punching and hitting cotto before Cotto himself could get his punches off. That's why he lost.
Probably not but I think Geale could've had a better gameplan. If he did what Peterson did in the first 5-6 rounds against Garcia, kept moving avoiding exchanges, he could've taken the fight into the second half and took advantage of Cotto's weak engine in the second half of the fight when the snap would've gone off his punches.
What Geale did tonight, trying to pressure Cotto and get inside early was just suicide.
I think Cotto did whatever he wanted to, and basically just moved early to feel Geale out. I'm actually surprised he fought Like that. I thought for sure he would be aggressive from the start. He out boxed Geale.
Trout's southpaw jab really made things difficult for Miguel. I also don't think Cotto was at his very best.
Trout is a good fighter in his own right. He has only looked bad against a guy in Lara who was the worst possible style matchup for him.
I've been following cotto for a while now and was really thinking his career was coming to an end. after tonight's performance, all I can say is WOW!! Freddie Roach is truly a legend at what he does and cotto has now rejuvenated his career
Because Cotto has no power at MW, not much anyway.
Sure if he weight drains his opponents, and then head butts them, has the referee in his pocket, he can hurt lots of people.
The Rican should retire, otherwise Canelo will do it for him.
If you hit a dry zombie they will go down no matter what, same with a one legged cripple that shouldnt be allowed to fight. Can Cotto hurt a healthy undrained fighter? I dont think so. Like Margarito said, he hits like a girl. GGG will say its just Ding Ding Ding.
He's certainly rejuvenated himself.
I've ragged on cotto in the past and I do think he has had one or two strokes of fortune in his career, however I can't fault his hard work in the last couple of years.
Yeah picking fights against cripples and turning guys in to zombies is such hard work LMAO.
