Cotto handled Geale a lot easier than GGG did & looked better doing so. Weight aside, Geale landed & boxed better in his fight with GGG. Cotto was obviously smaller but showed great defense for a Roach trained boxer & enough movement to give anyone @160 trouble (including Canelo) the only thing I didn't like was his Diva comment that he's not a MW but with that said, I think Cottos win tonight showed MW is reletively weak making the ggg hype seem even more irrelevant...
fyi, this isn't a cotto diss, he looked spectacular & I think he's making a smart business move capitalizing on a weak division being a naturally smaller man.
Well if we're comparing GGG to Cotto and using the fact that there was more of a fight with GGG....how is that a comparison? GGG let's guys hit him and tries to make a good show, that's no indication of anything other than GGG cares about the fans. Geale has no business fighting in title fights.
This is what I feared. Slobbering all over Cotto's nuts because of a CW win over a guy who just got knocked out and was never that great to begin win.
If you guys really think Cotto can beat GGG, why doesn't he think so? This was one of the most blatant ducks I've ever seen and you should be ashamed of yourselves for praising him

Floyd's win over Manny... Juan Manuel Memoquez KTFO out of Manny. Should we discount ALL wins over ALL fighters who have losses or KOs on their resume?
Completely wrong information? Lol
Who cares if one piece of information was incorrect he still got destroyed by Golovkin and had to weigh 157 against Cotto and looked bad in the ring.
This thread is a real head scratcher. Golovkin had a very easy time knocking out Geale, he did it first when Geale was a top 5 middleweight and at 160. This thread would only make sense if Golovkin struggled with Geale or Cotto knocked him out faster, neither of which happened.
It's pointless talking about Golovkin vs Cotto because it's clear Cotto has no intentions of fighting the man.
When you're argument is he was "coming off of a loss so he wasn't confident" is trash when it's false information. That's kind of a big issue. It almost ruins whatever point you were trying to make about guys "not being the same" after they faced GGG. I'm not saying that isn't true, it might be, but saying he didn't have a fight between as proof, when he actually did is about as dumb as saying how many knockdowns it took before the KO was ruled as to who the better fighter is.
3 rounds is quicker than 4.
:lol1: You're arguing over how fast Cotto KO'd Geale when you picked Cotto to lose? How's that working for you? Especially when you find out that because the first round was a minute longer than it is supposed to be, it was literally seconds apart from the KO's.
^this^ & if Geale was a shot fighter after ggg he would've looked like Guerrero did today against a gimme opponent but Geale won his fight after ggg handily. Geale quits before he takes full punishment. Geale isn't that good but with this win, Cottos short 160 resume is still better than GGGs...
100% Truth.
Cotto resume at 160 overly owns GGG resume.
Cotto: Destroyed the Linear, Ring and WBC Champ; Gorilla rapes Geale (GGG best win).
GGG: Best win = Geale

I hope someday Canelo leaves the safety of 155, and actually believes that he too, can beat GGG.
It saddens me to see the self doubt in Canelo. I want Canelo to believe...
Better than holding a title in GGG's division and fighting a weight-drained version of a guy he just destroyed... Now that's a megaduck

My opinion is the same. A very good strong fighter in a weak division and his resume leaves a lot to be desired.
He would beat Cotto up badly but Cotto is junior middleweight with a hustle at 160 right now.
Yes and it's a well paid hustle!
I just wonder what's Margacheatos hustle theses days.

How is that possible when it took Cotto another round, both fights he quite and with GGG he quite a round earlier. Golovkin also knocked Geale out in much more dramatic fashion with both connecting with the same hook but one was just too much... People are real quick to get on Cotto nuts because they refuse to see what GGG has to offer be it nationality, race or down right stupidity. Fact is Golovkin is a much more will rounded fighter with a style people enjoy... While Cotto does fight effectively but has done so in his last few fights against past prime or journeymen he has drained... I still see Golovkin winning and giving a worse beating than Margarito/Pacquiao gave him. I won't be impressed until he fights an opponent who doesn't lose all he has in the weigh-in or already past prime or broken down fighters.
If Cotto impresses me at 154 against Canleo I may change my stance on how long he will last or how much of a fight he will pull off. Don't forget Cotto is their for the first 6 but then begins to fade!
Geale was not "zombie level" . He's a limited fighter and always has been. The skill difference was apparent with Cotto being far superior.
Geale is one of Golovkin's best wins and it is what it is. Sorry.
And put Froch in against GGG and after that fight Froch will be an old guy ready to retire. Let GGG beat Ward and Ward will be a guy who wasn't ready after a long layoff. Let him destroy Cotto and Cotto will be a guy who was too small and ready to retire. And on and on and on...
You guys will always have a reason to disparage a GGG opponent after they lose. There is not one fighter out there that Golovkin could beat that would not have a ready made excuse for the haters.
Let Cotto beat GGG in the ring with no catchweight and at 160 and I will be happy to say that Cotto is the better fighter. I will give any fighter his due when he fights a fair, clean fight with no artificial conditions to give them an advantage. It is not my fault that Cotto is not such a man and that his fans support such a fighter is a disgrace.
& to everyone that's jumping on my comment about "weight aside" let me start by saying, I know it's hella hard to lose weight & dehydrating yourself is very unhealthy but no1 held a gun to Geales head & made him agree to the fight. If Geale would've collapsed on the scales it would've been no1d fault but his own & his teams $>health. Besides Geale didn't come in looking like DLH b4 Pacquiao or like cracked/chapped lipped Canelo pre Floyd. Then he came in at 180, now to me if cotto would've made a rehydration clause along with the catchweight ala AB, that woulda been dirty...
ggg resume is dog sh1t, everyone knew this already. he has yet to face anyone credible. i knew this before the fight and cotto just confirmed it after the fight. ggg still knocks out cotto though
^this^ is an answer I can respect, short, unbiased, & straight to the point. People r jumping all over this thread like it was direct assault on GGG. Geale is/was a dilusion of a good win for both guys but ggg fans are so insecure they can't c that.
The only people I think less of right now are Cotto and Roach who felt the need to drain Geale down to zombie level for the fight. They should be ashamed of themselves and they are a disgrace to the sport. Anyone who is celebrating this hollow victory should be ashamed of themselves as well.
There is no reason to think less of Golovkin, he fought a fully trained and ready opponent who was not drained to gain an artificial advantage. An opponent who was ready and able to fight back. And he defeated him cleanly.

I was and I am a big critic of cw-s but please...
What's happening is really just the more biased half of Golovkin fans are just salty as fuck because Cotto beat Geale almost the same way as Golovkin did. I expected Geale to be a skeleton but he didn't look that bad on the weigh in compared to other weigh in photos of him and he didn't look a shot, drained fighter at all in the ring. Cotto was better than him, like he is classes above him. Golovkin is also classes above Geale. That's all. I don't think less of Golovkin now, I always knew that his weight class is a garbage except him and a few other guys. I maintain my opinion about Golovkin, that he is a very good fighter but also overrated here and we should witness him to fight a real elite opponent before we say that he is elite.
I don't like when GGG fanboys take the credit what's due from someone just because they are salty as hell that Cotto didn't fight GGG yet.
I also think that Cotto should drop that belt because he isn't mw and he shouldn't hold on that belt BUT firstly I don't see you crucify any other fighter who doesn't unify within a year after he wins a title and secondly Golovkin accepted to step aside so end of discussion...

I don't think less of ggg. I just think that cotto has what it take to get in the ring with him. I know cotto a better skilled and ggg is bigger stronger. It will be a great fight. Cotto wins if he boxes ggg wins if he trades. I'll watch to see what happens.
