I like watching Khan, but: a) Those weren't 'little mistakes'. He has glaring holes in his inside game that need to be addressed, b) Peterson doesn't owe him anything, much less an immediate rematch. Stop taking like you call the shots, and build your way back up before you start banging on about Mayweather again, c) The refereeing/judging wasn't great, but it wasn't 'disgusting' by any means. His excuses are making him sound pathetic.
You''ll give him a rematch Amir? That's good of you. As if they're going to overturn a legitimately close decision. Look at the way he's talking about the rematch being definite. It smacks of desperation. If Peterson is good enough to offer 1 then count yourself lucky - he doesn't have to.
Floyd obviously has real trouble ordering his thoughts in a rational manner. On top of this, he's too stupid to articulate himself properly. Stupidity mixed with supreme arrogance, and a bucket-load of money. Bad combination.
This is a complete mismatch. I hope that nobody even entertains the notion that Mormeck has a chance. No blown up cruiser has a chance against these two super-heavyweights that are experts at 'fighting tall'. Haye and Adamek are both superior to Mormeck - and they were shut out. Let's face it: there's almost no one left to even pretend that they can challenge one of the brothers. Even Povetkin isn't big (or good) enough. Helenius as the size and power, but he's slow, he get's hit to much, his footwork is poor, and his fitness isn't great. Vitali and Wlad are completely different athletes to Helenius. The only thing I agree with in this article is that Vitali is significantly better than his brother.
dumb eastern euro bum won't whoop anyone in the top 5 :bottle: - Absolute nonsense to call him a Euro bum. Have you seen him fight? Sillakh is the real deal. Maybe not quite ready for Chad (who I consider no.1 in the LHW division), but even at this early stage in his career he could hang with Pascal, Cloud, etc. Just read Doug Fischer's gym notes on Sillakh - this guy is no protected Euro fighter.
Yes Hopkins was the better boxer, but, if you actually score the fight, it is close. I had it 114-112 for Hopkins - that's giving one of the very scrappy rounds (I think maybe 8 or thereabouts) to Pascal. I can perhaps see another one of the close rounds given to Pascal - at a push. I find it difficult to give enough for Pascal to win.
All that said, Hopkins is making out like he destroyed him, which is not really the case. He did get dropped twice. He did have one or two very scrappy and difficult to score rounds, which, like it or not, would tend to go towards the home fighter and the champion.
Hopkins was and is clearly better and he schooled him in a purely boxing sense. But if he wants to go on about clearly winning the fight then he should have been able to put more distance between them in terms of points. Watch the fight and score it again - you'll probably give it to Hopkins by one or two, but a draw was not a robbery.
He gets criticism because he holds a world title belt having only beaten one decent fighter: Murat (unless you count Bellew - who, at the time, wasn't ranked and, who ran him very, very close). You can't hold a belt for 5 or 6 defenses and not fight anyone in the top ten. There's been constant talk of big fights but none have ever happened. I'll be happy to reverse my opinions and support Cleverly if he takes on someone with a pulse. Until then, the criticism is warranted.
I have a feeling this is gonna explode in an all out trash-talking war between Haye and Vitali.
Absolutely. Watch Haye jump right on that bandwagon: "I deserve a title shot against Vitali cause Wlad couldn't KO me". The HW division is a joke. It'll only improve when the K-bros get old or retire.
I used to really like Freddie. He seemed like a reasonable and knowledgable guy. But, he's beginning to say some stupid things. If this quote is true, he's embarrassed himself badly with a blatant show of hypocrisy. Double standards and selective truth may be the domain of the slimy promoter (I'm looking at Arum here), but hard working boxers and coaches should be a bit more direct and honest in their remarks. Sort it out Freddie.
First of all - terrible stoppage. Pajkic was quite capable of continuing. Second, I've always been a Tyson Fury sceptic - he looks slow, unfit, clumsy, etc. He looked to work his jab well against Firtha and I thought he was coming on, but this fight is a backwards step. He has potential, no doubt. However, he is way off the class that people are talking about. Watching the Klitschkos and Fury in comparison is like night and day. He's a big lump that's learning to box. The K-bros are genuine athletes. Fury isn't even the best boxer in the UK. David Price is far more coordinated and technically skilled. He's the sort of guy that, in a few years, could challenge for HW titles.
He's also one of the most uncoordinated professional boxers I've ever seen. He's got by defeating totally nobodies due to his strength, but Chisora will wipe the floor with him.
Khan has great physical gifts, and is one of the best boxers in the LWW/WW divisions at range. But, he can't fight on the inside at all. Particularly he can't defend on the inside. That's what makes him look amateur, panicked, and sloppy. He uses his feet to get him out of trouble. And, when he's under pressure, he either eats short punches, or clumsily runs. Someone needs to teach him some inside fighting defensive tips, otherwise he'll always be in trouble against fighters that pressure him.
Ok, so I accept that Khan is mouthy. But, imagine the comments if:
Khan avoids Bradley (for whatever reason) and then comes back from a long layoff to fight Casamayor. He would be slated. That's what Bradley has done. In the mean time Khan has fought Maidana, McCloskey, and Judah. Now he's fighting Peterson. If he takes Peterson down in good style then he deserves an undisputed place at the top of the 140 tree.
Yes, he's annoying. Yes, his chat on Twitter is poor. Yes, his calling out of Mayweather is embarrassing. But, also, he wants to fight the best. That should be valued.
Heard it before "Frank" (or whoever writes these for Frank). Wake me up when Cleverly actually fights someone half decent rather than just talking about it. He's fast becoming a laughing stock because of the way he's held that belt hostage (a belt that he was gifted in the first place I might add).
Who's going to want to fight Sillakh? A super tough fight for any LHW, and a guaranteed future titleholder, who, at this stage, is not much of a draw. Very high risk/low reward. I hope someone has the balls to give him a shot. He'd destroy Pascal, Cloud, Cleverly in my opinion. He'd match up well to Hopkins or Dawson too.
Agreed that Hopkins won't fight Dawson. But, I'd hardly call it cherry-picking. He's a 46 year old man who fights young champions - the man is a marvel. The thing is - he's too old to be able to outbox someone with Dawson's movement. That fight is a stylistic nightmare for him. Let's just congratulate him for what he has done and is still doing rather than implying that he's some sort of ***** for not taking every really hard fight that comes his way while in his mid forties.
Maidana struggled with an old Morales. But, equally, Broner was arguably beaten by Ponce de leon. If Ponce can trouble him then Maidana can too. Broner is skillful but people give him too much praise. He's beat up a lot of smaller guys, and the time he stepped up in weight he struggled against Malignaggi, who's not exactly the best WW out there.
The only reason Martinez calls out Floyd and Manny is because they're the only real cashcows that are close to his weight. Fair enough he doesn't want to fight at 168. He's a 154 fighter who had to go looking for fights at MW. Martinez is just unlucky that there's few big fights in his division. He could have a decent career if he got 2 or 3 fights against the likes of Cotto, Angulo, Canelo, JCC jr, etc. No real definers in there though.
