They are heavyweights.
True, but when was the last time HBO or Showtime had a PPV card with a heavyweight fight as the headliner?
Rahman vs. Maskaev II?
No, especially not the way WIlder has looked his last 2 fights. IMO No HWT title fight should be on PPV except wlad/wilder and that is a stretch.
Dont know if a Klitschko vs. Wilder PPV fight is a stretch. It would be a huge Unification/Undisputed title fight.
I think it would be a bigger fight than Klitschko vs. Haye, in America atleast.
That's fair. I just think WIlder would benefit from beating wlad on primetime TV. If he fought him on NBC and managed to win in stellar fashion (which I doubt), he would be the next big thing. Then you could put him on PPV (calling crazy ass Shannon Briggs).
I could be wrong.
Yes I agree with you. Such a fight on NBC or even ABC would get great exposure and make Wilder more known(should he win such a fight).
I just think that there is to much money in that fight, that it would have to be on PPV. I could be wrong also.
Solid bet it would. HW's tend to sell better & get better ratings on average. And I believe a US HW & a fight that is viewed as more competitive would help it sell better.
People keep saying this. I don't buy it. First off this fight probably doesn't even happen if not without PPV cuz HBO doesn't have the budget it once had (iirc they are working with like $40M-$60M/yr now) & I believe with the two main fights they paid out about $4M (thus maybe as much as 10% of the budget woulda been used) & its late in the year when there has already been rumors of HBO having budget issues. And recently they were trying to setup Kirkland vs Rosado as a main event fight in December which suggests budget concerns to me.
Ahh yes, i forgot about that. That s a good argument. Ofcourse HBO budget could be used, but I dont think that fans wanted Golovkin vs. Lemeiux as much as Golovkin vs. Canelo/Cotto.
If Golovkin fights the winner of the month fight then it is ok, but if not then I think it was a mistake.
Warriors boxing who represent Charles Martin & Al Haymon wins the purse bid.
Fight could be as early as January 16th on the Wilder vs. Szpilka undercard.

Are you simply not watching?
Hopkins - knocked out
Paulie - knocked out
Brook - knocked out
Khan - knocked out
Haye - knocked out
Gentili - knocked out
Ugunoh - knocked out
Cota - knocked out
Hatton - knocked out
Duhaupas - knocked out
What the hell more do you want?
Come on, you are not really counting that one?
Like most former champions(belt holders) in The Heavyweight division they stay in The game too long.
In The last decade I think its only Lennox Lewis & Vitali Klitschko that have stopped on top.
Ofcourse also Tyson Fury if he never returns.
Yeah but when you are getting put on the seat of your pants by dereck Rossy it might be time that "ring iq" can't bail out your physical decline anymore
Stiverne another heavy that left his run at the top far too late in his career.
It's the same with all these >35 "prospects" we have right now
That is true. But Whyte tends to swing alot of wild hooks and gets hit alot.
And Stiverne Can bang.
But yeah, due to Stivernes age and inactivity Whyte is The favorite,
Im not really sure about Froch.
He isnt that big of a name in the States. But again I dont live in America, so I dont now.
But I just imagine that he isnt that big of a star.
Yeah I agree with that.
GGG is just not that big of a name and I think it be will hard to market him as a PPV fighter.
But its not his fault that Cotto and others from 154 to 168 is avoiding him.
Once he gets some big big names he will get bigger and more marketable.
Even though he is an legend, an ATG and I have respect for all of his fights.
I was really disappointed that Roberto Durran pulled that "No Mass"
Mike Alvarado also in the third Rios fight.
David Haye against Klitschko was a bit of a quit also.
And ofcourse Golota vs. Mike Tyson
records can be very misleading, that guy is basically the equivalent of a 8-18 kind of guy.
Still, i guess its better than fighting another 1-3 guy which is what other promoters do.
I still think he needs to be managed very carefully, i thought he was lucky to get the decision over Joe joyce and i suspect he is packing glass.
Hope he proves me wrong and get's to the top of the division in the coming years.:boxing:
Yeah his defense did not look great. But it was his first pro fight. So I will not be to critical of him.
Also better to beat an guy with and undefeated record than somebody with a losing record.
Chavez Sr quit.
Twice.
You refer to the Oscar De Hoya fights?
I totally agree on that one.
Even though I thought the Meldrick Taylor stoppage was ridiculous and never liked Chavez Sr. I give him respect for all the fights he fought and how active of an figther he was.
i think you took it out of context
"The main event bout will be a WBC 12-round special attraction"
by "the main event" im sure they mean garcia broner
How come?
It is at the 140 weight limit and with no belt on the line.
And one of the Charlo brothers who holds the WBC title, just fought in April, so I doubt he will fight in July again.
that fat little pudding was 12-0? seriously?
Yeah he really was. But those guys he beat was nothing special really.
No worthy opponent on his resume.
But still cool and guy with a record of 0-0 beats a guy who was 12-0.
But okay Tony has to Olympic gold medals. One in the youth and the other at the summer Olympics.
Im not that super impressed with his performance, but it was his first fight.
He got his a little bit too much and looked s little sloppy. But even though he has a great trainer in Virgil Hunter. So I think and hope he can be the future top guy in the heavyweight division in some years.
Oh and by the way, he has the whole country of France behind him, just like Joshua has with the United Kingdom.
That can help him tremendously by becoming a star.
Oh and lastly, he is a heavyweight and he does speaks english which is a great thing for promoting yourself.
As he should. But David Haye is done. He will be what. 37 this year.
Maybe he can get come version of the WBA version, but I think he is done, just like Klitschko.
The model is broke and outdated.
Boxing is not as popular in the US as it used to be.
When something is popular and mainstream people gather to watch.
But with boxings decline in popularity the average person will not pay 60-70 bucks to watch a fight.
It doesn't help that when the big fights finally happen, they don't live up to the hype.
When big fights happens and they are available to the average joe, Joe will watch.
Thurman Garcia did very well on free TV.
Also promotion is very important.
The last two PPV fights had awful promotion. Kovalev vs Ward & Golovkin vs Jacobs.
You need to have some form of cable subscription to Sky but you dont need to have a sky sports package.
Sky box office is its own PPV Channel, so you can pay £22.50 for a basic sky tv packagwe with no sports and just order ppv's from box office when they are on.
22,50 £ is the cheapest SKY subscription?
Ah okay, and the price is the same, like 17 £? Even if you order on the date of the fight?
Well... These are the Sky prices below.
Virgin are similar prices, and bear in mind these do not include prices for you having broadband, this is just TV.
Boxnation will also set you back an extra £12 a month if you arent with a provider that gives you the channel for free.
Cheapest option: Sky Original Bundle (£22.50) + Sky Sports 1 (£14) = £36.50/month
Cheapest HD option: Sky Family Bundle (£38) + Sky Sports 1 (£14) + HD Pack (£6) = £58/month
Cheapest bundle with all Sky Sports channels: Sky Original Bundle (£22.50) + Sky Sports Pack (£27.50) = £50/month
Cheapest HD bundle with all Sky Sports channels: Sky Family Bundle (£38) + Sky Sports Pack (£27.50) + HD Pack (£6) = £71.50/month
Pretty expensive isnt it, which makes it easier to understand why we dont pay as much for our PPV's.
Lowest is about £30, but noone gets that. We get screwed on the subscription, US gets screwed on PPV, its really a myth that we pay less. Sky puts a hell of a lot into publicising boxing, you can see them deserving a cut of the PPV, 50% for HBO is mental, doesnt seem like they do a lot at all for boxing
Ohhhhh man. That is a bunch load of money. I mean what the heck is going on with those prices.
That's just crazy.
What if you don't have SKY at all and you want to buy the PPV?
Is that even possible?
Honestly I have referred to that siren before and the news regarding purses are usually spot on.. the only problem is whenever I look up rtl relatedness news some Germany websites should show up and I can't read Deutshe for sh1t.. anyways, if it's not in ppv then I stand corrected.. thanks for the info..
I didn't mean to be arrogant or anything.
I just found it weird that you keept telling me it was PPV, when I told you it was basic cable.
But yeah, hope everything is cool. Didn't mean to bash you or anything.
Nope... It's on RTL ppv.. check his last fights, they were on RTL ppv
No different than HBO and HBO ppv.. HBO ppv is not separate channel it's a subscription on regular HBO available until the event ends
No dude. You are wrong. Totally wrong. RTL is a basic cable channel that almost every German house have.
There is no such thing as RTL PPV.
PPV rarely even exist in Germany.
Klitschko last fights were on RTL the basic cable channel. Why do you think more than 10 million people watch him fight?
Think about it. There is no way more than 10 million pay to watch Klitschko fight?
I don't know how many countries get RTL, but in Germany the rematch was scheduled on PPV...
http://www.totalsportek.com/boxing/klitschko-vs-fury-tv-channels/
Come on man. You can't be serious. Look at the website. So amateurish. Not a legit boxing site at all.
Be critical of the source.
Even the RTL Wikipedia website is way more legit than that site.
UK PPV and RTL(Germany) PPV... it would easily break 1mil mark and I think Joshua against Whyte sold around 700k+ ppv so this fight might do twice as much in the U.K. Itself..
RTL is not PPV. Its like a basic cable channel. Even I have RTL and I don't even live in a German speaking country.
It will be free in Germany.
