Not sure what people see on Sturm that they didn't see in Paul Williams or Pavlik. I mean he's clearly not that great. Sturm isn't a puncher and doesn't have much movement.IMO
Mtagwa just wasn't able to land any punches so he never really got started. So he wasn't able to make Gamboa back off. I think Gamboa is clearly faster than Lopez while is better off fighting from a distance, because he has great range.
Lopez fights up close too much putting himself in danger and was losing stamina. He has to fight from a distance, but he gets too desperate on trying to connect on his opponent. He should try fighting using his jap and strait right hands to hurt his opponent before coming inside, but I see him losing to Gamboa, because Gamboa has the range to fight from the outside and has better flexibility allowing him to fight on the inside. He's looks like miniature Mike Tyson. lopez looks just too stiff and won't do well moving up in weight. His power will be lest effective as he moves up in weight.
I like how the puertorrican blind themself saying that Lopez will KO Gamboa that easy, like there will be sure 100%. Did you see when Lopez throw his left hand? he open himself completely (he drop his right hand) for Gamboa left hook. Lopez eat basically all the jab from Luvano. Lopez defense is going downhill every fight and his wildness offense is increasing every fight. Lopez only hope is counterpuncher Gamboa, but he is droping to frecuently his right hand, so i dont see his counter so promising in a fight vs Gamboa. Anyways i am puertorrican and I will be routing for Lopez.
Your'e right. Lopez loves to land his big shots from the inside and doesn't try enough to land a straight right hand where he can then come inside and try to finish his opponnet off. He was doing this vs Gerry Penalosa when he should have just use his range even if Penalosa was in the ropes he should've backed off.
Lopez likes to slugs it out too much. Luevano and Penalosa aren't big punchers, but Gamboa is. He can't play that game and he wasting too much energy early on. Sometimes one good shot can do more than a volume of shots that can only tired you out and make you defenseless making you too exausted to protect yourself.
I felt Pac could have taken the test now that he's fighting Clottey and not Mayweather. So he good prove to Mayweather that he didn't like the fact that Mayweather were demanding it, but wanted to prove he's clean.
He has no reasons now not to take the test because he didn't like Mayweather demands and taking the blood test two weeks before the fight doesn't sound so bad. He has to take the damn test at some point while still showing he still the same super fighter he's shown to be.
I doubt Floyd will fight someone on March 15.If he does its likely to be Mathew Hatton because he knows he has a huge following thanks to his brother Ricky and Floyd would be ashame if he can't draw without having a major opponent. Although Paulie Malignaggi knows how to hype a fight, but it be difficult for them to compete against Pac. Floyd will likely fight in April.
It is the way he is winning that has people questioning him. Couple that with how he handled the testing debacle and you have a lot of people raising brows now.
I know Mayweather and Pacquiao have similar progression through the weight classes, but Pacquiao seems to be getting more power and more punch resistance, not less. It ain't impossible, but it is curious.
Exactly the way he's looking now he would probably destroy Juan Manuel Marquez and some of his past rivals. He's very strong, but he's also been able to take some punishment without feeling much pain. I mean he broke or fracture his hand, but he was still fighting like he had no pain on it.
I would like to see that fight at 140lbs. Pacquiao could lose some weight again like most of his opponnets have so it shouldn't be a big deal.
Valero has power, quickness and thats good enough to win. all it takes is one good punch. just let pacquiao fight some wars like others have and Valero add some needed experirence and this could be an exciting fight to watch. I just don't think Pacquiao will lose the weight now like de la hoya did at an older age.
Anyone beatable they just have to fight the right opponnet in the right time. Valero might be the wrong opponnet for Pac and the right one for Valero to beat and make himself famous.
Floyd beat Oscar after Oscar KO'ed Mayorga.
Yeah but Mayorga was previously K.O. by Trinidad and even had worst preparation when he fought Oscar. But I have to say that theres a lot of fighters that take easy fights and those who don't end up hurt. Even Shane Mosley had a streak of easy opponents before fighting Cotto. Vargas twice, Two unknown fighters and others that weren't bad fighters, but weren't dangerous.
yea but we must not forget life outside of Boxing affects life in the ring for a fighter, it isn't an excuse but it was told that Gomez didn't think too highly about Sanchez, it was his 1st fight out of his natural weight where he was a KO king so his ability was yet to be determined at that weight and he took Sanchez lightly by drinking and partying the week before the fight..
if you know Gomez you know what kind of bad ass he was, he was a role model in every way when it came to his sport but he was a wild dude tho, he slept on Sanchez and it cst him but we must remember not only did he sleep on him he also had moved up to that weight for the 1st time, against a guy who can fight like Sanchez that ain't easy to do..
this life style has effected many puerto rican boxers. Camacho and perhaps even Cotto. But Cotto has also had some other unlucky situations.
Salvador Sanchez died very young I think he still had a lot to prove. Its like Paul Williams or Juanma lopez they looked unbeatable untill they had some more fights. Sanchez was just 22 he had a long way to go.
JuanMa and P-Will haven't even fought anyone comparable to Wilfredo Gomez or Azumah Nelson
I comparing them to salvador sanchez not wilfredo gomez. They are two young studds that were seen to be almost unbeatable. Boxing wins sometimes come with timing. Many fighters look to fight fighters when they are in decline unless the fighter is ranked higher then they are they will play it safe.
I'll say one thing, he can take a punch
He'll get knock out if he keeps taking big shots. He can take punches while he's still young, but when he starts taking bigger opponents and stronger challengers he's bound to get k.o.
Martinez also took the fight on short notice. Paul was probably lucky he didn't get Pavlik that punches harder than Martinez.
But i'll bet those are just words. Berto said something similar about Collazo, but avoided him, because of the risk of losing to a fighter that isn't that well known.
Cotto torn pac's right ear drum during the fight, but it has been reported that he has suffered from this injury since training camp.
This means that the injury is chronic , like concussions and spranged wrists/ ankles, it will never heal back to 100%, it will be prone to more damage, and less resistant, sustain damage more easily and with each succeeding blow, the accumulation of wear and tear compounds.
simply put, his right ear is shot. notice how pac couldn't even hear max kellerman's interview after cotto's fight, he had to lean in very close just to make the words audible.
what about the diagnoses from his hand? Is it o.k. was it broken?
no other drugs improve your boxing technique, footwork or evasiveness, that comes down to hard work. innocent till proven guilty.
Hard work? steroids help you train much better and help you avoid injuries, it all depends in what you're taking. They also help you take more punishment making you inmune to pain.
You act like its alright to take steroids and it doesn't make a difference, but it does thats why many athletes take them.
Pacquiao is a lot better than before so ofcourse these things raise some suspicion. He might be clean, but even if he doesn't like Mayweather he must still prove to the world that he is or he'll always will raise suspicions.
Age is the only reason that may stop people from fulling favoring Mosley. If Mosley were 32 or even 34, but he's 39 you just don't know when a fighter will lose enough ability to be able to beat younger quicker opponnets. Thats what partly happen to De La Hoya. Foreman was a heavyweight and they're all slow. Leonard had no success and Hopkins hasn't fought anyone fast enough to elude him. This is another weight class.
The only reason Mosley wan'ts Floyd now is because Floyd is being seen as one of the top fighters if Floyd wasn't on top Mosley wouldn't care to fight him. Thats the same reason Mayweather wanted to fight Mosley back then. After Mayweather beat a big name in Oscar is when he felt he didn't have to fight anyone he didn't want to, because he had nothing to gain and all to lose. I f Mayweather didn't fight Oscar he wouldn't have retired he needed a big name and if it wasn't Oscar it had to be someone else of that stature.
im seeing that this will be hard thing to do for the mayweather camp..
if this does go through, this will assure the fans that mayweather wants the fight and this PED/EPO allegations were all hype.. and when this is done, the ball will be on Pac's court.. will he be dropping the 10mil per pound demand also?
Would really like to see this fight signed and delivered..
Either that or they were afraid they lose the lawsuit. They want the lawsuit dropped. Mayweather is in a no win situation in a lawsuit he doesn't feel he can win.
It was a big fight for Julio being that he was in MSG. I guess he wanted to impress the audiences to help his career, but now he has some explaining to do.
fact of the matter is that innocent until proven guilty is the court of law but in the court of public opinion (and putting the public's asses in seats) you are guilty until you prove otherwise. Look at tiger's 50 hoes, kobe's rape, barry bonds and roids, all have denied accusations (to a point) and all were villified by the public. Pac is messing up a good thing right now and that's the love of the fair weather fan. Sure hardcore boxing fans are gonna watch fights, but winning over the mob is a gift few people are given and the mob can leave as quick as it came. Please your fans, please your pockets I say. Manny take the damn test!!!
What if Pacquiao does the test comes clean and then has a poor performence. How can we know if he stopped taking it for his next fight just to come clean?
So I really don't believe we can say he's clean just by taking it for one fight. This should be now done always in boxing. If Pacquiao has to do this test everyone in boxing should start taking these test just to be fair.
