yeah its great for the sport. the super six got kind of messed up with guys dropping out but I feel like Froch and Ward were almost bound to rise to the top anyway. whoever ends up being the best at 168, you get the sense they had to really, really earn that distinction. thats what we need
Tyson closes the gap and is an inside short-puncher, Wlad moves back and counters or uses a long left-lead. Wlad is probably the harder puncher in a single shot, but in his prime Tyson had the style and ability to hunt someone down and knock them out. He also had the weight to hurt the big guys when he hit them in combination
Don't get me wrong, there have always been people out there to discredit anyone that accomplishes something, but in our age of mass communication, especially internet message boards, people seem to take it to a whole new level.
yeah man its just crazy, and even dangerous in way for impressionable people or young people. its like the bar has become so low, that there is no bar. its just all mixed up and 90 percent of it is garbage
btw nice zappa av
I would be all for complaining, so to speak, letting the common man have a rant is what makes the forums tick. we don't have to be newspaper men, we get a voice and whatnot, but people need to educate themselves and reflect on every possible angle of their statement before they hit SUBMIT REPLY
this should be a place for casual fans or people who do a google search for "boxing news" to learn the sport. it has kind of turned into a cesspool that illustrates much of what is wrong with our world. go figure! their is always a few good men around and thats why i still come on here
90 percent of boxing is mental.and well he clearly wasnt there mentally
thats right he had a lot of talent, and deserves respect from us because he went out and made it a good fight for the fans, but he could've never been a top tier pro even if he stayed active until now
if he kept fighting his record would've been dotted with losses because of times he wasn't prepared or focused, times he saw a style he couldn't deal with or times he just straight up lost
but with all that said, the HW division needs more fighters like him and a fight with him in it is almost always going to be good, which i think is one of the best compliments you can give a fighter
Before the internet, yes..........in these times with internet message boards, no.[/QUOTE
let me ask you this, is it the nature of internet or just human nature?
after all, everything we see when we get online is basically just a massive communication network between people
back then you only heard the newspapers version of things, but that doesnt mean the regular man wasn't talking boxing all time in other settings, whether it was total nonsense or real analysis
I think the odds are about right on ortiz. he seems too green, like he is not a complete fighter he has a half-baked style based around his power which is pretty good, but then again he may have a soft chin.
why is he obsessed with all this strength training? like thats really going to do anything? how much stronger does he need to get, he needs to focus on the finer points of his boxing. he isn't getting ready for an opponent who will try to overpower him, he needs to train for a hard, fast 12 rounds, be able to pace himself and absorb punches. he shouldn't be sparring some raggedy guy he can knock around, he needs big strong technical boxers as sparring partners. that and strategy should be key, but I hear none of this on 24/7, it's just him flipping tires and ****
Who determines how strong a fighter should be and how does one gauge that?
I don't understand what you're asking. Who is martinez talking about and what is the context
these questions are beyond stupid.
If Manny was a heavyweight he would be a completely different fighter.
yeah but the whole point of this thread is "what if he wasn't"
same exact fighter, different size. use your imagination
well it sounds like he is trying to say that margarito had loaded gloves before the Cotto fight. He's saying karma can't get back to him until he gets beat up by the guy that he supposedly cheated against.
I don't think karma came back to bite him at all personally, it might sound crazy but in my eyes he's lucky to be allowed "back in" the sport to make money at all. If boxing was mainstream, bet you he would've been banned forever. If karma really came around he would be drinking beers with kelly pavlik right now instead getting up for another big money fight
Mosley is a warrior.. One night does not erase a legendary career... Mosley was in over his head against Pac.. A younger mosley vs. Pac would have been a 50/50 fight.
Did you read my post? Please respond to my points if you're interested in the topic
Looking at his whole career, yeah it would be wrong to say Mosley is not a warrior HOWEVER the day after a fight that he "stunk-out" I will not being calling him a warrior. Would Erik MOrales call him a warrior after last night? Thats how you know!
Yeah I don't think he should start going after the best.
What he should do is keep fighting ranked guys in ohio and try to rebuild his fan base and make money
This was the same Shane Mosley from the Mora fight and rounds 3-12 of the Mayweather fight. I don't get why so many fans are surprised that a guy who hadn't won a fight in two and a half years looked bad in the ring.
my man, I'm not surprised. You didn't read my post
except for the fact that Pac has said this has bothered him going all the way back to Marquez...
so why wasn't it an issue in his other fights??
Well I think every athlete has one or two spots on his body that are always a nuisance and theres always a chance it could flare up. Odds are that if he fought like 10 times he would have problems in 2 or 3 fights
Perhaps it's because he didn't get moving fast right away, like he never got his motor running on high early so it stayed somewhere in the middle
I don't think anybody with half a mind looks down on these fighters BECAUSE they are black, I think it's more a certain ring style that people don't like and eight out of ten the guy just happens to be black.
whatever that style is, people aren't buying it right now. What people are buying is not rocket science, they want a guy who displays courage, resoluteness and strong positive values like country, family and spirituality and that is not a bad thing and doesn't mean you want to see brawlers block punches with their face. remember, this isn't fencing and it isn't even "pure" boxing, this is professional prize-fighting, millions of dollars at stake.
It is what it is, you have to be mature and realize that the color of a persons skin doesn't tell you anything about their character. if someone makes it about race over and over again, it says more about the speaker than the subject
I wouldn't say he is trash, he can be outboxed but he can't be outfought. He was good at 160 on the european level which means he's not a bum, but it seems like he is destined to be a trial horse. they will throw guys in with him and we see if they can survive his power. maybe he isn't the best fighter in the world but who gives a rats ass, i will pay to see him fight anybody
"Legacy" can't ever be erased or written over. If it could it, it wouldn't be legacy. Guys will go into and out of a prime, and only at this time does it start to become clear exactly what there "legacy" is. After you've been retired awhile, your "legacy" can and will change with the culture of the time.
It's indisputable that 168 is a relatively "new" division, and there aren't many guys that made this particular weight division "blow up". If you had to pick one guy, it has to be the guy who was an icon for something like 10 years if I'm not mistaken. You've got to understand, some european guys don't give a **** whether they appeal to americans and he did big things over there for a long time. Imagine what that means to people from wales, who have a long boxing history but haven't had a great fighter for a long time. He had all the belts and never lost a fight, got off the floor to win on top of his huge cultural significance. its not a storied division sure, but there has never been another guy like this
andre ward and all these guys are good fighters, but the time to compare them to calzaghe will come further down the road
