You all are also forgetting that Pac actually has a pretty good defense. He is constantly moving his head and body and keeps his gloves up to counter punches sometimes. Pac is a little wild but can go into defense/offensive mode quickly which he is good at both.
Mosley has been trying for nothing but knockouts since probabaly Vargas. There is nothing that Mosley was doing different.
The only thing that has changed that I saw tonight was he got gassed in the 3rd round. Normally Mosley gets gassed in the 6-7th round and has to resort to his champion will and desire to push through the last rounds. And again, I'm talking around the Wright/Vargas era of Mosley.
You guys think he has changed so much but I didn't see a different Mosley at all in the ring. I used to be a fan of him but ever since he looks for nothing but the knockout, I've dropped off.
Here is a post I made before the fight.
If Mosley, and it's not even much of an if, comes out and actually boxes then has has a great shot.
Sadly Mosley is a wannabe knockout artist and will throw everything he has into a punch. Mayweather can see power shots a mile away; there is no way they will be effective.
Mosley has great in-and-out combination punching skills and usually displays them for a couple of rounds during a fight. Then he gets tired of boxing and goes for the knockout punch. As soon as Mosley looks for the knockout, Mayweather will take over the fight possibly knocking him down.
Oh yeah, and I never even saw him try his combination punching. He was only looking for the big right for 12 rounds. You can't do that vs Mayweather, it just won't happen.
hatton was as dirty as floyd was and cortez only seperated them when one had the arm around the other fighter or under the arm and you don't need to clinch to get in the inside and fight. there are plenty of times when hatton is all over floyd and cortez says nothing because hatton is throwing punches but whenever hatton would stop punching and grab floyd then cortez would seperate and did you see how much hatton was holding the rope that is also illegal
Perfect post. Cortez was batting away the arms of the fighter to tell them to quit holding each other WITHOUT breaking the fighters. But after enough holding by both fighters he would break them. IT WAS AN UGLY FIGHT GUYS. When you have an ugly fight you only can do the things you see. He broke the fighters for really ugly clinching, warned both fighters and warned mayweather for throwing elbows, and took a point away for a very deliberate rabbit punch.
It was great refing. Should he have taken away points for Mayweather's forearm and elbowing? Yes... But woo thats 1 point. I've seen plenty of other fights where the ref needed to do more (Wright vs Hopkins anyone?). Cortez had a lot to do that night and he generally did a good job that night.
"OMG Cortez should have taken 50,000 points away from Mayweather for all the dirty fighting he did and Hatton should have rode clean!". Even if he did, Mayweather would have still won. The scores could have been 405-16 for Hatton and he still would have lost.
Cheating boxer with no consequence ever. I don't care if "he has been doing it forever" it is still bull and I don't ever rate him in any level of boxer.
But he has done what he can get away with and if it works then he is a winner. Can't deny that.
If you haven't watched it yet...
See Mayweather vs Corrales for the outcome of Floyd vs Williams.
Some people are still in denial. :boxing:
I understand your point but I disagree. Williams has a much bigger reach, is taller, and is a LOT busier and doesn't try for that perfect punch.
The size difference between these guys is pretty rediculous ... how the hell did this ginormous human being not destroy John Ruiz unless, of course, he is one of the crappiest boxers to ever step into the ring ...
Why do people always think bigger is better. Just because his arm is heavy doesn't mean he knows how to punch or knows how to throw quick. Remember force+speed = power. Thats why you hit someone's face like you are hitting them in the back of the head, and you throw it as fast as possible.
Search the forums and use the keywords: earnie shavers. I think that there's some video of him knocking down Larry Holmes.
Would you say he had the knock out power of people like Mike Tyson, Gerald Mcclellan, or Julian Jackson?
in most interviews winky says he had the wrong kind of shoes on that made him keep slipping. He said none were legitimate knockdowns that hurt him seriously. but fighters say all sorts of things.
thats the gist of it.
I some what believe that... He really wasn't hurt by anything he was throwing it seemed. Winky was just falling all over the place.
Did you see some of the shots he took in the second Mosley fight?
I understand you may not like him, and I'll agree he's not the ultimate warrior who is dedicated to fighting, but you think Mayweather, who couldn't KO Mitchell with a head shot is going to KO Oscar? I think his chances are better than some think they are. I mean Castillo was able to reach Floyd with the jab all night in the first fight, if Oscar has any intentions of using the jab against Floyd, that will go a long way toward winning him the fight. Oscar is naturally larger than Floyd, some are forgetting this I think.
Actually I do like de la hoya. His fight against vargas was awesome. However, I just think that he doesn't have it left in him anymore. We will see when he fights Mayorga. :)
Because he has skill! His defense is outstanding and he still has the ability to score points. Winky is a true BOXER. Which some of you don't think boxing is about.... boxing. But instead, knocking someone out.
Wanna bet on that?
Wanna bet on that?
I'll bet 1 Billion points on each fight.
Except......I'm picking PBF by Dec...so Odds on.
If I knew what exactly betting on this site really means. Its not like I have a 1,000,000 points or anything. :)
I would bet that Mayorga Uds him. And as long as that is true, then Mayweather would KO him in the 10th. I changed my KO round because Hopkins is much bigger than Mayweather.
Mayweather Ko's De la Hoya in the 7th
That is if he even can get past mayorga first. I'm not sure why you all think de la hoya has all these great chances against everyone. He was UD by Mosley, close decision to Sturm, and knocked out by Hopkins in the 9th(who couldn't even knock out Taylor). Oscar is finished and will not have any skills ESPECIALLY since all he does is run around in suits and tries to make money.
If Gatti beats Baldozar for his title, who does he fight next? I can't see him fighting any of the top dogs in the division.
Probably a good time to retire. He is well past his prime and would show that he does have fight left within him to win belts. There is no reason to try to press his luck against more skilled boxers and lose. Should just retire while holding the belts.
I laughed really hard when i heard this. Tarver is such an idiot. Everybody wants a piece of Tyson these days.
psss....pss.....TYSON IS RETIRED!!!
Everyone wants a piece of Tyson's ability to bring in money. And tyson will definitely show up in the ring to get a few more million to pay his bills off. It is all the boxing fans that still pay for these fights that are the idiots.
I always thought de la hoya was the ugliest fighter when boxing and being hit.

Just b/c YOU changed your mind about a fighter doesn't mean you should expect everyone else to do the same. Their will alwasy be haters no matter how great or polite a fighter is in or outside the ring.
I didn't say I expected everyone else to change their minds. I was asking why people haven't. How in the holy hell did you think I was expecting others to change when I was ASKING what people thought.
Nikolai Valuev
He would basically throw me down with his weight... I could deal with that. Plus it wouldn't look bad being knocked out by someone who is 7 foot. ^_^
