In front of the usual crowd of Gatti fans in Atlantic City New Jersey, Arutro Gatti won his first Welterweight fight in a cautious and rather uneventfull stoppage over the little known Thomas Damgaard.
I'm a Gatti fan myself, but one who's never had any illusions about who he is as a fighter. He's a Mickey Ward / Omar Sheika type who's all blood and guts. While he cleary isn't (and won't be) a serious contender, he's all heart and I always enjoy watching him. He was clearly over cautious and Damgaard proved to be strong and durable (although clearly inexperienced). Gatti was always moving, and picked his shots. He clearly hurt his hand at some point in the mid rounds, and fought south paw in many instances. Thomas Damgaard would back Gatti to the ropes, and Gatti fought well there. He won just about every round, and in the 11th, Damgaard (who clearly isn't used to being in a fight that late) lost his legs two thirds of the way through the round after some solid blows from Gatti. One good shot was all it took to turn his legs to jelly, and the crowd in Jersey got what they came for.
Gatti mentioned he hopes to fight Judah-upsetter Carlos Baldomir in his next fight.
that judge was a disgrace to boxing .Gatti's head was almost touching the canvas as he was diving and ducking like hell. In round four he was just about to take a seat in the ropes, but the jerk off referee saved Gatti from the attacking Damgaard,Gatti should also got docked a point for this
Gatti's head was getting extra low since Damgaar was squatting and when swinging over Gatti's head was always pushing his weight on top of him. When Gatti was about to "take a seat in the ropes" it was because he ducked down along the ropes and was pushed back. That's not a knockdown or anything of the sort. The fact that you'd compare this to something along the lines of a Sven Ottke fight is laughable.
that guys name is chuck zito. he KOed jean claude van damme

I'd give him a decent shot against Baldomir, dont know if I'd make him a favorite.
the KO was more devistating than it looked in the clip.. Damgaard had a chin.. He was gettin hit with some big punches throughout the fight.. It was a average performance from gatti.. its a new weight for him so its alright.. i just wish he kept his hands up more to protect himself.. if he had a better defense he would save alot of punishment.. i love my boy gatti tho.. once i saw him shake his hand in the 4th i knew somethin was wrong.. the man has heart, power and courage.. thats why i respect him..

The most rounds Damgaard won was 3-4 rounds(that's be generous), and he was holding and hitting and deserved that point off.

there were times in the fight that the referee was annoying to damgaard especially when the latter was close enough and peppering gatti with short shots which was very effective for the danish. the referee kept on saying "keep it up" that made damgaard hesitate to continue his attack.
there was a round that gatti was forced into the ropes where he sat for a while to gain balance but he was far brom being kd'd. the fight wasn't very impressive for gatti but he showed great heart for fighting with a torn ligament. if damgaard has power, he could have kd'd gatti in the later rounds when gatti appeared to be very exhausted and his hand hurting.

Lose a point for what?
And you avoided the question, are you trying to say there was something wrong with the way this fight was scored when it was stopped? Did you think the stoppage was poor?
Do you need a kleenex?

Sorry man, I don't have that fight. Will let you know if I get it via DL.
You're the best man. Thanks in advance :) . Don't know if you've seen Mayol fight but i tell you Rodel is a tall fighter at 105. He has technichal skills better than any pinoy fighters around including pacman or boom or boom and he's got pops on both hands.
Tell me you're not talking about the Gatti Damgaard fight?
I'm wondering the same thing.... Apparently Damgaard was winning the fight and it was a bogus TKO? Hah. The most rounds Damgaard won was 3-4 rounds(that's be generous), and he was holding and hitting and deserved that point off. THere was nothing bogus about tonight except a sheltered fighter who got dominated by a light welterweight.
What a hometown decisions,US are the new robbercountry, before it`s was Germany but now it`s US
Tell me you're not talking about the Gatti Damgaard fight?
yeah but gatti could have shown discipline and weighed correctly in the first place. that is the point.
dont get me wrong i like arturo gatti. he made a mistake, it happens. he shouldve had to pay for it, but whatever, it is old news now. just shows what these commissions are like though.
people talked bad to me tonight because i wasnt impressed with gatti's performance. im just used to seeing him a lot better against such mediocre opposition.
If memory serves me (other can feel free to correct me if I'm way off here since it's been a while) but Gatti weighed in for the fight but put on a ridiculous amount of weight by the next day, which is why the commision wanted to change the weigh in rule for the day of the fight that they couldn't exceed a certain weight. Like I said, I could be way off.
yes you are way off. at the time of the weigh in, the day before, gatti already weighed 160 for the weigh in.
gatti got on the scale and everyone saw he weighed too much and gatti jumped off the scale. everyone looked around. gamache's trainer tried to speak up and this commissioner dude told him to shut up and quit trying to cause a scene.
then the fight, gatti gave gamache injuries for life. this was the new york state athletic commission, the same one that wont let joe mesi fight or wouldnt let mike tyson fight. they pretend to have morals but they are full of crap.
