the other guy looked like he ate the headbutt worse than Harris, but geez...
hope hes just jelly legged....
It looks like Harris caught it flush on the temple and sometimes that's all it takes.
Also the other fighter (I'm watching but can't remember his name that's bad) was able to bend his neck away which absorbed the blow but Harris couldn't.
If you remember back a few years ago there was a clash of heads between two redsox players where one's head was able to go back and absorb the blow through the neck the other couldn't and was knocked out.
ok, he looks alright. sitting up, talking...they should still definately take him to the hospital and everything.
they should start doing tests too, I didnt like the way he reacted to that headbutt...It might be best if he stopped boxing.
I dont want anything serious to happen, its not worth it Harris
Unfortunately not enough boxers have the maturity to know when it's time to hang up the gloves.
There's a difference between Heart and Chin. You can will through pain, it's hard to will through being unconcious. You get knocked down and out you might have every desire to get up and fight but not not able to.
Having a strong neck helps but a good deal of it is genetic.
Bullshit, last pope beat a bullet.
Hard to say, Ricky Hatton, David Haye, Junior Witter...then there's Juan Diaz (I guess the jury's still out, but COME ON!), Tye Fields, Gerry Cooney, somewhat shitty examples, but you get my point that every nation has their share. It's just hard because guys are probably built up more in their own countries, and residents of one country versus another may have a skewed perspective. If you lived in the UK, you may have been more hyped up about Ricky Hatton, or Juan Diaz if you were from Texas, so it's hard to judge.
On the other hand, Diaz sucks, I'm going with Texas.
And I'm pretty sure a knife too. Then went to prison to forgive both of them, talk about salt in the wounds.
Though I think he would have counted as Polish since he spent more of his early life there.
Actually the Romans had their own version of boxing, but it was a rather different sport, instead of a ring the contestants were forced to fight between two poles so there was no lateral movement and they didn't have much depth to move in.
Instead of gloves they strapped leather belts around their wrists that would strip the skin off of their opponants face if used right.
And modern Greco-roman wrestling was a sport created for the modern olympics with only passing resemeblance to the true Wrestling styles of the time.
Pankration how ever is essentially MMA and dates back to the Greek Olympics.
Losing is part of sport. As long as they recover from a loss and are still alive, why do we care so much? A lot of these guys get paid a lot of money to box, so it ain't like there life is in tatters. If i got paid millions to fight someone and got KO'd, i'd wake up a happy man and brush myself off and get on with it.
I'd say because by the time the fighter is well known enough to have a large following he's fighting MAYBE five times a year so unlike in other sports, there's much more time having to wonder if the loss was just bad luck or what ever or a sign of things to come.
Think about it if you're a baseball fan and your team loses you only have to wait a day or two to see them play again and get to make up for it.
Football it's a week.
Boxing it can be six months.
Also a lot of fighters have been undone by a single loss.
Brian Urlacher never played tennis. Silva has tried boxing. So it's really nothing at all like that.
Lets keep it in football then so there's actually more of a connection:
Tom Brady is arguably the best QB in the NFL right now, for sake of argument we'll say he is.
Tom Brady would make a poor Safety.
Therefore it is harder to play Safety than Quarterback.
It's different skill sets. Boxing is a more controlled specialized sport. Most boxers are better punchers than most MMA guys. Most MMA guys have more rounded skill sets than boxers.
I enjoy both sports, I actually don't mind when matches go to the ground it's very tactical if you know what's happening. But, Boxing is a different sport you tend to see more subtle fighters, true counter punchers, outside fighters, things that the rules and ring in boxing allow.
Can I just say that while I don't think the KO brothers would do well in these fights, I still think they're good boxers who have the mixed luck of fighting when there isn't a ton of competition.
Neither would be Ali or Tyson they might be able to beat Holyfield but I'm not too sure of it.
However, the ignorance and attitude many of my fellow Americans have towards Eastern Europe is quite tiring.
Poland Russia Belarus and the Ukraine etc are not communist anymore. There is a Difference between Ukranian and Russian.
Get over the fact that you can't pronounce the last names that end in Ski Ko and Kov and accept that they might be good fighters regardless. Stop worrying about the nationalities and enjoy the fight (same goes to the European fans).
Take away the curropt aspect of boxing politics and look at the facts.
A fighter of the calibur that Anderson Silva holds is nothing to be denied of anything less than true greatness in the sport of MMA but in boxing he had a few fights and lost one by Tko,What does that tell you? I think it speaks for itself.
Boxing you need years of practice, years of discpline if not at least an understanding of the sport and time to learn the varity of dimensions it holds.
It tells you he's a better mixed Martial artist than boxer.
That's like saying Tennis is harder than football because Brian Urlacher is a good football player but a shitty Tennis Player.
MMA requires a greater diversity of skill, boxing requires specialization.
This articles fails for one reason--if these are indeed valid reasons--it doesn't really matter whether or not Cotto is damaged goods --he should be able to win regardless given these aforementioned reasons by the writer, right? So saying "Miguel Cotto is an underdog against Manny Pacquiao" is baseless and without merit.
And the writer just contradicted himself:
Ring Generalship
"Cotto is an underrated boxer. He can box well from the outside, as well as fight on the inside. He makes good in-fight adjustments. In this fight, he will need to cut the ring off without taking too much damage. Cotto will need to corner the faster Pacquiao, and make him pay once on the inside."
This whole paragraph infers that Cotto would have to be sound both body and mind to be an "underrated boxer" and to have ring generaliship. Don't you agree? So how exactly is Cotto an underdog because the general public says so?
Because underdog is a comment on perception not ability. Specifically it's based on betting odds.
Remember Ali was an 8-1 underdog against Liston because no one thought he could survive Liston's power, looking back on it we can see Ali clearly out classed Liston but he was still the underdog.
Vitali fought Lewis in Staple Center. He had the balls to travel. When have you ever seen your great american heroes like Ali & Tyson fight their prime fights in other countries?
Your points are invalid you red fool.
Thrilla in Manilla
Ali V Foreman was in Zaire
Sunshine Showdown was in Jamaica
Do I need to continue?
Boxing in the US has always been an outlet for those in poor urban centers which today is predominantly composed of Blacks and Latinos. Back in the day when the Italians, Irish, and Jews were in a similar situation they thrived in boxing as well.
We have a winner.
This is also why Jews Dominated Basketball for a long time. Or why so many old school boxers have Italian Irish or Polish last names.
Poorer people are more likely to look for an escape through sports. Why take the risks of boxing if I can make money as a banker? Much less risk in Banking than Pro Boxing.
they used to be masters, white people invented sports to give them excitement.. in greece they invented gladiators only slaves used to fight in that sports.
Gladiators were Romans.
Greeks had the olympics and the participants were not slaves but instead athletes.
Not all Gladiators were slaves either, many were poor people struggling to move up in the world with the fame and fortune.
I was called a wigge r in my teens when I was heavy into hip hop and involved in a rap group. Just other people who don't understand trying to knock you down. Whtie people who are involved in hip hop aren't trying to be black and vice versa....It is just a experssion of a love for a certain type of culture or art. And yes Russia in in the far east not too far from China and I am sure there were many aisan people who migrated and mixed in with the Russian people many Russian have the same features and look spanish or Asian. Ia m surprised where I live it is predominatly Russian neighborhood and I see them speak Russain and I am very surprised because the often look Phillipino or Chinese....lefty
I'm completely staying out of this entire discussion except to make one small point:
People of eastern European descent often have Asian heritage somewhere due to a couple of things, one of which is the normal migration of peoples, the other was the raiding mongols and Tartars.
what punchers have valuev fought for ppl to act like he cant be KOd? i mean look at valuevs power, with his size he should hit hard too. but he doesnt. the same might go for his chin, nobody has tested it yet. watching and old, slow and washed up holyfield tag valuev with overhand rights at will for 12 rounds make me think haye has a pretty good shot of taking the big man out. not by a single shot but by accumulation.
Power requires more than size and strength, from the little I've seen of valuev he moves at snail speed.
The power of a punch can essentially be measured as Momentum or:
Mass x Velocity
Valuev is huge but if he can't get any velocity on the punches it doesn't do him any good.
