Would have rather seen Caleb Plant fight Berlanga. I honestly don't think Berlanga beats Plant, Munguia, DB, list could go on...
Can't be spending PPV money on this kind of fight.
Madrimov is athletic, unorthodox, and strong. Think its going to be a really fun fight but Bud is rightly favored to win. It could be a tough out though and I won't be totally shocked if his KO W-streak ends.
Will be good to see what Bud looks like at 154 and see if he seems any stronger or beyond his depth with punching power. IMHO Bud's shots seem to hurt guys more because of accuracy than power, which should carry up to 154- but might not be a KO artist up there anymore.
Big fan of Overtime and these OTX events- hope they keep going strong and get more investment to do big things. Boxing needs way more tourneys and this kind of support for startup stables etc.
Pulling for Cannon to take the tourney W and get a big fight at 154 next year, great story for a tough veteran catching a 2nd wind with his career
One thing you might find a bit peculiar about the Canelo-Munguia bout is the last minute of the fight. At around 58 seconds left for the fight to end, Canelo hurts Munguia and appears to hold him up instead of going for the kill and says a few words in Munguia's ear. Check that last minute out when you have time, I'd be curious to hear what you might think.
This is the exact moment that I remember more than anything else from the fight tbh.
Canelo lands a bomb and then ties Munguia up.
Fellow Mexican with a lot of career left- can't say for certain- but I think it was an intentional mercy.
I felt like Canelo carried Munguia a bit, less so with EB- but I think Berlanga's Cruiserweight frame carried him through 12- in both cases you can see Canelo's conditioning keeping him in a lower gear in the later rounds which factored in.
He obvs dominated both of these guys and didn't overextend himself late to try to press a stoppage.
How much do you think Crawford would want for the Fundora fight? Let's not forget it's also a title shot, which in itself should be a sensible motivation for most fighters. Crawford also petitioned for that chance.
Its a good question. Crawford is more and more sending pretty clear signals he's in cashout mode though- no way he'd get more than the Canelo offer obvs but I'd expect he'd want more than whatever he got for Madrimov
Is it a risk though? Fundora isn't even very good imo and people are bigging him up like he dominated Tszyu when in fact he used his elbow to cut Tszyu's head open to the point he couldn't even see fighting a borderline blind fighter.
Definitely understand your take- but also it's boxing and every fight is always a risk for any fighter, really anything can happen (and that + other variables is what gave Tsyzu that L).
I think Crawford might fight Fundora if Saudi overpays him to do it- which is entirely possible as we've all seen.
Agree with you that logically it should be an easy night for Bud!
The thing is- Bivol effectively executed the correct game plan against Beterbiev. Different judges might have given him the fight.
Bivol could take more risks but I think what we saw Saturday showed that he flew about as close to the sun as he could without more detrimental consequences.
The main thing we learned was that Bivol's best shots weren't enough of a threat to change anything about Beterbiev.
Great fight- very tough night for both guys. I don't know that the rematch particularly favors one guy more than the other given the age factor and the level these guys operate at.
This guy bums me out mostly because he makes it so clear that Emanuel Augustus would have made good $$$ in the TikTok era.
But he definitely wanted out of that fight, weird and lame ending.
So Bud has a better resume than Tim Bradley?
It will make a lot more sense to compare their records once they're actually both retired. Seems like Bud is going to have at least a couple more tough fights at 154 (and get overpaid for it by the looks of things).
Bud's record and career really isn't as bad as you perceive it to be considering he had to pull it all out of the mud -but Bradleys fought
more significant names.
What I meant was - Terence Crawford is clearly a better fighter than any version of Tim Bradley.
No disrespect to Tim Bradley's career, his fight with Provodnikov minted my respect for him permanently as a fighter, but it was a blatant robbery win against Pacquiao that made his career what it is and brought him his biggest subsequent opportunities.
Tim > Bud = a braindead take, but also have to assume some deliberate trolling too- hope you're enjoying the notifications lol
Def not as broke as I am- but he does consistently seem to sign himself up for weird opportunities that you wouldn't think would be necessary if he didn't need some income
I don't really know what it's about exactly, but that guy (Rick G.) seems to particularly hate PBC.
Grand scheme of things aren't looking too great for PBC right now though/so far this year.
Can safely assume Bivol would not fight Beterbiev the same way, Beterbiev also coming off a knee issue doesn't bode too well against someone who typically is a mover like Bivol
Deontay is still exciting because of his freakish pop but... He's famously bad at self-assessment.
If he got with a new trainer that was less of a cheerleader then he might get me on board to check out another fight, but it's not been looking great last couple years. He's slowing down enough now to need those fundamentals that he never really had.
There must be a lawsuit floating around behind the scenes or something for MVP to be going hard on these public statements defending the legitimacy of the fight.
Legit wondering if Canelo steps on him and stops him in the first couple rounds/maximum disrespect. It would reignite his hype with the casuals for sure even while validating the criticism about Berlanga as an opponent.
Because he's the best in the business at what he does. He knows exactly what works, what doesn't and why. Should he still be allowed to work with boxers/athletes? No, probably not. But he is, therefore the best thing you can do (if you can afford it) is have a guy like this personally monitoring your data and adjusting things down to a science.
Everything they're doing with oxygen manipulation is designed to emulate the effects of EPO. Will it be as effective? Absolutely not, but will it be effective? Certainly, and it's legal. As untrustworthy as he may be, that's all I think Conte is doing with SNAC, using his valuable expertise to enhance athletic performance within the legal constraints of the sport.
I say this because many of the high profile boxers he works with (Crawford, Haney, Mikey Garcia, Claressa Shields) show no signs of PED use. As someone who has done steroids myself, once you do, the signs become incredibly easy to spot in other people. That doesn't necessarily mean people who do not exhibit the signs are guaranteed to be clean, but it does mean that those who do exhibit the signs are guaranteed to be dirty.
Point being, I don't believe SNAC is just a front for supplying undetectible PEDs like BALCO was, so since it's allowed, top tier athletes who are able would be foolish not to make use of it.
I agree that it's probably very unlikely Conte is running it back and straight up facilitating cheating at this point, but IMHO his personal name/brand is just permanently tarnished and he will just always come off as a bad look.
Def don't doubt he is good at what he's doing with SNAC and obvs theres a reason that these higher-paid athletes choose to work with them.
