Yeah but Canelo really relied on certain tactics that required hard punches. Like he would keep sending huge punches to the body and then fake one to the body and throw it to the head instead. Part of that relies on the opponent being worried enough about taking more punches there.
Even if he didn't always get stoppages, his power scared opponents at the lower weights. That really gives an advantage because there is less coming back at him. And now his power and reach are both less than before. Anyone can see the size difference when he fights people now. He looks small in there.
Amazing fighter tho - still winning even with all these disadvantages. 62 wins....
He used to throw in combination a lot more now he's a lot more choosy with his punches and that's allowing people to not only hit him more but not worry about the power as much
His output is fast approaching Zhang level and that's saying a lot given Zhang is in a division were hardly any punches are thrown and he's the lowest output fighter and Canelo in his early 30s and half his size...
He doesn't look small by any stretch of the imagination, he looks short but small he most certainly is not.
Canelo has never had an advantage is power or reach, he's always been a cumulative puncher who used his timing and ability to cut off the ring to win fights.
Most of his kayos are from his catch weight antics as I said initially "He's just not being effective against people who he isn't fighting with stipulations or last minute notice" it's all from tomfoolery.
and he's only kayoed/"stopped" 5 people in the last 16 fights and surprise surprise, all the stoppages are against people like Kovalev with you guessed it "stipulations, last minute notice or some other form of tomfoolery".
I'm not arguing anything either, I'm just stating the facts.

I'm not sure what we are talking about now but my whole point was that Canelo has little power at the weight. I'm not sure how listing some guys who do - will help. Yeah you can find some ways round a smaller reach and less power - but that's always going to be two disadvantages you never had before.
Loma was also worse when he went up in weight. His invincible aura basically fell apart at that point. I remember the Campbell fight. Loma suddenly didn't look very good.
Is your argument that everyone who goes up in weight - looks as good as before? I'm not sure what you are arguing tbh!

Usyk wasn't the only example simpleton, Pacquiao was also an example and i could've listed others like Loma, Povetkin so on and so forth.
Small guys who were beating guys with significant size, reach and weight advantages but why would I waste my time listing a bunch of guys and certainly not now you've proven yourself to be incapable of thinking critically and how much of a waste of time it would've ultimately been.
Benavidez is average anyway, he's just fighting in a weak division and moved up to a more competitive division and showed his actual level when he isn't being a huge weight bully.
It's as if you're forgetting the fat fúck was a super heavyweight when he was a teen and he's still rocking his títs now.

The punch stats show Canelo is landing a huge number of power punches - as I said.
Uysk is literally the exception that proves the rule! Pretty dumb using him as an example.
Not all fighters carry their power up with them. Did you watch the Benavidez fight when he moved up? He looked average against an old guy who barely looked like he was trying

There is plenty of fighters with size and weight disadvantages who make up for it with timing, speed and accuracy which Canelo has.
He's just not being effective against people who he isn't fighting with stipulations or last minute notice, that's the reality of the situation but feel free to live in delulu land.
And if you believe that power or height/weight is the problem how do guys like Usyk can overcome 12 inch reach advantages and 50+ pounds in arguably the most dangerous division in the sport.
Or Pacquiao another example who's 5'5 and 67" reach in a division were people are 5'9 and 71" reach averagely and lord knows how much weight he gave away.
And then there is strange outliers with orangutan arms like Boots 5'9/10 with 74/5" reach or Fury with his 85" reach and he's only 6'7.

One thing you might find a bit peculiar about the Canelo-Munguia bout is the last minute of the fight. At around 58 seconds left for the fight to end, Canelo hurts Munguia and appears to hold him up instead of going for the kill and says a few words in Munguia's ear. Check that last minute out when you have time, I'd be curious to hear what you might think.
I remember that and quite honestly I don't know what was in Canelo's mind if he was thinking of taking it easy to make it easier for himself or to help Mungia in some way at the end. The only thing I am sure of is that Canelo did not press the action as hard as he could have toward the end of the fight. The anti-Canelo folks will say that Canelo did not go for the knockout because he was gassed at that point and does not have the power these days to knock out bigger guys. As to what he said to Mungia at that time, my guess is that he complimented him on a good fight. Thanks for asking.
I felt like Canelo carried Munguia a bit, less so with EB- but I think Berlanga's Cruiserweight frame carried him through 12- in both cases you can see Canelo's conditioning keeping him in a lower gear in the later rounds which factored in.
He obvs dominated both of these guys and didn't overextend himself late to try to press a stoppage.
Some folks might call Munguia and Berlanga bums, but these guys are younger, bigger strong guys with fresher legs that didn't roll over for Ginger. by the looks of Canelo's marked up face, it's apparent that Berlanga has pop in his punches.
On paper it appeared as though Canelo could have easily knocked Berlanga out, but once they were in the ring together, one could see how much bigger Berlanga was and even though Berlanga tasted the canvass, he quickly got up and didn't appear to be hurt.
Ginger's age is becoming more apparent, he was breathing heavy early in the fight and his feet are slowing down. His overhand right is becoming more telegraphic, I think Ginger will have a better chance of beating Benavidez if he fights him by May of next year. He might not be a able to handle his quick combos if waits any longer than May.
Just my opinion from Ginger's last 2 fights against bigger younger men, which is what Benavidez is.

This is the exact moment that I remember more than anything else from the fight tbh.
Canelo lands a bomb and then ties Munguia up.
Fellow Mexican with a lot of career left- can't say for certain- but I think it was an intentional mercy.
These guys are clever in deceiving people for clickbait, at least they deceive me all too often. It is going to get worse once they master using artificial intelligence to help them ply their trade. Thanks for clearing this up.

If you read that article carefully, you'll notice that the only words quoted are "enjoyed the fight", not the line that reads didn't want to embarrass him. That is an indicator that Ginger didn't say "he didn't want to embarrass his rival".
I too searched for interviews or articles where Ginger admitted to such, but have yet to find anything.

I think Munguia vs Berlanga would be an awesome fight. Both can get hit and hit. They might be at similar levels too.ll
That said, I was one of those that felt Canelo carried Munguia also. He dropped him nice and almost immediately let off the gas. Perhaps the same can be said for how he fought Berlanga, but Berlanga might of been a tad more patient to land counter punches which disrupted Canelo more than Munguia.
I also thought Canelo would carry Berlanga if he chose, but it didn't look as obvious. Berlanga's patience helped him stay in the fight the full 12. If he fought a tad more reckless, I think Canelo could have stopped him.
Canleo just doesn't have the power at the weight. Look at the punch stats. Canelo lands a huge amount of power punches in his fights, yet doesn't do much damage. He looked small next to Berlanga in his last fight. big reach disadvantage too
It doesn't just mean he stops less people - it also means his opponents can attack him more and take more risks to land punches on him
I agree with the bolded..
Thanks for responding. I will keep looking. This is another one of these "he said" quotes. I am looking for the video where Canelo himself said it.

How about this
“I could have finished the fight but I took my time,” said the 33 year old. “That’s why there’s 12 rounds to see who’s the best. I took my time and I don’t want to make mistakes, so I did what I was supposed to do to win. Munguia’s a strong fighter; you need to be careful with that. I just take my time"

Perfect thanks It is clear that Canelo is more risk averse these days.
After saying
“Winning by knockout is always wonderful, right?” the 33 year old said. “So I think I’m going to win by knockout before the eighth round.
“I don’t care if Munguia is younger; older. I don’t care, because Canelo in the end is different"
before the fight
If I am not lying myself I think Canelo predicted KO8 vs Berlanga too. I think he really belived it when he says it ,something typical for a person full of himself. Most interesting is the round he predicts is usually when he gasses ,atleast last few fights. Since he got that Veganelo something went off.
I wouldn’t mind a early ‘25 comeback tuneup fight for Berlanga then maybe Puerto Rican day weekend but not of course in New York , fight Against Munguia in Vegas
