Porter's upper torso is much thicker, and he's still very young. He's going to fill out a bit more, but I'm sure he could make 147 with no problems.
Cool pic.
I agree. Hop's legacy is cemented, and fighting Roy Jones Jr isn't going to change that. If anything, a win even at this stage in both of their careers, would be a nice way to top off a hall of fame career. Avenging the only clear defeat of his career.
But I hope they aren't going to ask boxing fans to pay to see this fight on PPV.
That would be terrible.
The only thing GBP has going for it is they're in bed with HBO.
And what a disaster that turned out to be for HBO. I'm sure they are regretting that now, in hindsight.
im talking in terms of risking the big money fight with floyd... **** that man
noone want to see this clottey mess, if he sooo great and want a REAL RISK, say OK to the 14 day window... take that risk
Yeah, I mean...he is taking a big risk as far as putting a mega payday on the line.
But Pacquiao needs the money to fund his (stupid) political campaign in the summer, so he had to take a credible fight.
I'm with everyone else, and I wanted to see Pac-Floyd. It'll happen, we can only hope that nothing ****s it up.
The guy has been boxing since he was old enough to walk. It's all he knows. He came back for the same reason that Jordan eventually came back to basketball.
Its his calling.
That being said, he spends money faster than he makes it, so he was probably in need of some paper.
Dumb move. This fight will never sell more than it would right now.
I disagree. This fight isn't losing any interest with all of the drama. In fact, I'd say the fight is bigger now than it was when it seemed to be ready to roll.
People will walk away from boxing for good this week, I promise you. The sport has probably lost more casual fans in the last 2 weeks than it gained through 2009. This is the worst blunder I can ever remember in boxing. I think you'd have to put it as the worst all time given this is the biggest fight of all time.
I strongly disagree here chief.
The only people getting irked off of this fiasco are the people who are in here reading every article of the back and fourth bickering going on.
Casual fans are just learning of the situation, and a lot of them are just learning about the fight because of it.
This fight, with some more buildup and assuming Pacquiao and Mayweather both win two quality fights, will make their showdown even bigger. Especially with the proper time to market and promote this fight.
seems like bob dont give a damn about clottey :(
Why would you say that?
He's giving him a chance to make more money than he's ever made in his life. He's giving him a chance to fight the best fighter on the planet.
I don't know where your logic is. Reports stated that Clottey was thrilled for the opportunity.
Arum is really hurting our sport
I cannot fathom how some of you so called hardcore boxing fans can think something like this.
No Arum - the sport as we know it today would not be the same.
This is the guy who arguably gave us the greatest fights the sport has ever known. SMH.
I will admit though, that the way he is handling certain things in this particular fight are questionable, but then again...
No one on this website knows the actual particulars, other than what is fed to us by these writers, which has to all be taken with a grain of salt.
Its a shame that Paul is such a low reward-high risk fighter at 147. Sure, he's going to run into some trouble with the bigger guys.
But he can make 147, just can't find anyone who wants to tangle with him.
Cowboys Stadium? What the hell?
I like the fight and all, but no one I know is going to make the trek out to Texas unless Mayweather is the man in the opposite corner. Bad idea, I doubt this fight even comes close to selling this place out.
Most people don't even know who Clottey is. Bring this to Vegas on March 13th please so the dummies like me who booked for that weekend can still somewhat get our money's worth. LOL
Fighting a 140 pounder in a welterweight fight would do more harm to Floyd's reputation than anything.
He cannot make it below 147, we all know this, he's said it himself.
Of course, fighters like Bradley would gladly come up to 147 to fight for the biggest payday of their careers, but really its no different than Hatton coming up to 147, or even Marquez.
Fight someone at 147 who is established, or at least proven that they can compete at the weight effectively.
Duke when Mike came out he was not liked for the same reasons oh but you dont remember the early 80s right?
Listen until you walk a mile in shoes or any other black person you do not know what you are speaking on.....Is your Momma, Father, Grandfather,Grandmother,Aunt,Uncle,Sister or brother Black?
I do not think so or yoou would have not said what you said I dont know how to be any other race but Black and I know how my folks have been treated since before I was born and still to this day
This ain't 1980, or even the early 80's for that matter.
Again, Michael Jordan is loved and adored, not just in America...but across the world. Why wasn't he hated?
I'm not saying that race has no part in the reason why he is hated, but the biggest reason why people hate him is because of his attitude, and the way he carries himself.
The guy is a ****ing loudmouthed prick. Go to Las Vegas and ask the locals who live among him, and they'll tell you.
He is an asshole.
Americans love to support 'the good guy'.
Don't try to play the race card and think people don't like the guy just because he's black, because that's bullshit.
There are plenty of black people who generally Americans admire.
LOL @ anyone who thinks race has anything to do with this guy being hated. You're an idiot if you think him being black is the reason why people can't stand him.
Its his whole persona. If he was white and acted the same way, he'd be hated just as much.
People adore Michael Jordan. Why? Because he is classy.
Floyd's detractors are a product of his fake ass bad boy persona. Its only natural for people to want to see the villains fail. People naturally like happy endings where the bad guy gets what he deserves.
Then get the fuk out of the division and fight at 147 not 145
go fight amir khan and bradley and ortiz at 140
I think its ridiculous that he is going to fight Clottey at 147 but wanted cotto at 144 and settled for 145
why didnt he fight cotto at 147?
Pac is a cherry picker
Yeah, let's just have all of the fighters stay in their divisions and not move up to take on bigger challenges! Sounds like a great idea!
/sarcasm
You're a moron. A welterweight fight takes place from 141-147 pounds.
You don't like the rule book, go rewrite one of your own and shut the **** up.
You act like these fighters are getting guns put to their head and making them agree to catch weights. When its all said and done, am I willing to lose an extra two pounds to put 10 million + in my bank?
**** yes.
Depending on who wins the Berto-Mosley fight, and in what fashion. I'd love to see the winner fight Floyd. That would be awesome.
I can see either guy giving Floyd a tough fight. You couldn't say Floyd was being a coward if he fought either one. Berto is unproven, but is definitely a threat.
I hope he gets destroyed in the election like the last time.
Same here. Manny, put the stupid political career on hold. Don't you know we got some fights we need you to participate in dummy?! LOL

Wow. Pretty strong feelings there for someone who has absolutely no effect on your life whatsoever. You must have Bob's picture on a dartboard and taped to you punching bag huh?
Hilarious.
thats my point.. pac loses
there goes the mega fight down the drain
why fkn risk it man?? bullshit....
mayweather will fight clottey instead if clottey wins
Great fighters take risks. I agree it is risky, but we all know that's what Pacquiao is about.
I wouldn't be surprised if Clottey pulled it off. I'm assuming he's going to be able to walk through Manny's punches. The guy has got an awesome chin.
Plus, to get to that chin you have to get him out of his guard. Underrated hand speed, and he is a very good counter puncher.
I think this fight will be tougher than the Cotto fight.
He isn't a WW. 145 isn't 147(vs cotto). WWs come at weigh in 147, then they come to fight 150-160-170 and beyond.
Pacquiao will weigh in 147 and fight at 147. While Clottey, PWill, Cotto, Mosley, Berto etc. will weigh in 147 and come to fight anywhere between 150-170.
Pacquiao < WW. He is a true JWW at most.
Which will make his accomplishments at 147 that much more impressive.
I also think that people overlook the fact that a fighter who doesn't have to cut weight has a huge advantage over a guy who has to cut a whole bunch, and then rehydrate.
I don't care how well a fighter and his team have mastered the science of dehydrating and rehydrating...the fact is that it definitely takes a toll on a fighter's physical endurance.
Yeah, let's petition HBO to fire Larry Merchant and hire one of you expert Boxingscene posters. :notworthy
I'm sorry but I'm going to go with a person who has a career in doing something, not some chump on a message board who surfs the web during work and thinks they know it all.
Al Bernstein is right on point with this article, and its written objectively.
The bottom line is that people blaming this fight not happening on Team Pacquiao are wrong. The root of the problem is the non-required testing.
No demands for additional testing...no possibility of testing to get denied in the first place.
Fight goes on.
The sad part is that this was something that blew out of proportion and ended up backfiring on Mayweather.
