You have to understand - he has the greatest resume of all time and he did that and beat those guys..... without a prime, having spent it in prison for standing up for his beliefs.
I think this has a lot to do with it. The boxing community recognized his drop in physical skills, and he still beat the greatest of his era while they were in their prime based on boxing skills, intangibles, and durability.
He'd be very ineffective. The spacing, due to glove size, is different making it easier to land offense in MMA, and that also makes defense more difficult.
Francis is used to launching shots that can't be blocked by 4oz. gloves, but can be blocked by boxing gloves. Francis doesn't even have good defensive mma boxing, he relies on durability which would get him beat into a mess in boxing.
Naoya Inoue could do it, just needs the fights. Oubaali, Casimiro and Banquez aren't challenges for him in my opinion, they just hold the belts he needs. Naoya was scheduled against Casimiro for his US debut but that got scrapped. :(
I hope he does well as opposed to fading into obscurity. I want him to continue boxing, finish his trilogy with Fury, fight Joshua, and Ruiz so he can become a staple of this era not just a flash in the pan. I don't really like him though.
If Tank was that good he'd be the 135lbs champ instead of Lopez. Instead he's going to ignore that Lopez is younger than him with less fights and champion already because he didn't fear losing his 0. Lopez, Haney, and Garcia are all younger than him and hunting belts at 135.
Nope
First off , their records are all padded with bullchit fights
Second , they don’t fight often enough ( imo ) to be even considered
Third , the times of the best fighting the best is long gone , most fighters may have 5-6 top guys on their resume
That’s my fughin take on it and I’m sure you can tell the frustration from a fans point of view
Your frustration is easy to see, but easy to relate to. Very respectable opinion.
Your not the only one that feels that way I'm sure as evidenced by a previous poster.
If Spence/Crawford/Thurman were to all fight one another consecutively within the next 3 years, or Inoue jumps all the way to Lightweight and defeats Lomanchenko, or Lomanchenko jumps to Welterweight and conquers them all, Do you feel any may have done enough to be in the discussion? Not saying that any of that is in anyway possible. Is there no way possible anyone can become the next SRR?
You really do not see his point? have you watched Tua fight? What punches does he throw? he is a short armed, one armed using fighter... He would always have the potential to catch an opponent... Maybe more in this weak era... But in any strong era he would be circled, avoided, hit with jabs, broken down and finished. Like lewis did... Could a fighter like Ji Zhang do that? don't know... Joshua should be able to do so, s Fury and usyk as well. Wilder? that would be interesting, but at his best Wilder would probably also catch Tua before Tua caught him.
I really didn't. I did not see David Tua fight at any point in his career. I have watched his highlights and a few of his short fights, but I haven't delved any deeper than that. still have to watch his Lennox and Byrd losses. I didn't get into boxing until the Klitschko era. So you can bust my balls for being born in the 90's, but I made this post asking for the opinions of people that know more than I do otherwise I wouldn't post/lurk here.
Personally, I think Bivol is going to dominate early with volume, and footwork, but I think Bivol will tax his CNS too heavily leading to him taking damage in the later rounds. Bivol has shown that he can fight smart, jab well, and utilize his footwork. Beterbiev has shown stamina, and power that carries into the later rounds. Bivol by UD, or Beter by Late KO/TKO.
Jones Jr. was by far more popular in his heyday and would be considered the betting favorite. That said, my money would be on Beterbiev to come out of it with the W.
Usyk has the better resume. Bud looks better. Usyk has better defense, Bud has a more potent offense and finishing ability. Bud has to take #2 for now until he gets that Spence Jr. win, but after that Bud is a clear as day #1.
Usyk has fought the best competition available to him and I favor that over Bud playing money games with Spence, and not scalping a ripe Pacquiao.
The only way I keep Bud over Usyk, with a Spence win, is if Usyk manages a win over Fury (doubtful). A VERY CLOSE #1 & #2
This fight wouldn't even happened if they were on the same timeline. As a prior poster mentioned, Pac jumped weight to quickly. If it were to happen that low in weight, then Pac would be far from his polished prime and would get stopped by The Monster. If it happened at Super Featherweight though, Pac would take the W by a landslide whether it be KO or Decision, Inoue just isn't that big.
Marciano had a more effective style for his time period than Floyd. Marciano knocked out almost everyone he fought by pressing through them with unmatched durability and grit. Floyd outmatched everyone he fought with skill. With that said Floyd has the significantly greater skills and skillset, but in my opinion Marciano was more effective in his time than Floyd was based off of knock out proficiency, and that he didnt accumulate controversial decisions. We can argue competition all day, but they fought who they fought and they both beat them all.
"Marciano was losing against a past-it Walcott."
But he didn't. He pushed deeper, and finished Walcott. Then knocked him out in 1 round in the immediate rematch. Ali was losing to Foreman, Foreman was losing to Moorer, statements that mean nothing in the long run. Foreman lost to Ali by KO, the only one on Foreman's record, and we all know the punchers Foreman fought. The greatest rise to the occasion.
He's been knocked out, and outboxed in his prime so his legacy won't be that great if you want to call it a legacy. As long as Wilder can bang out a few Contenders before retirement without taking a loss then he will rank higher than AJ all time. AJ doesn't ever approach Fury in terms of legacy/greatness unless Fury has a terrible fall from grace like losing to Chisora then Whyte back to back.
Every star Boxer has their own set terrible fans.
Fury and Wilder have the Pro-Black American vs Pro- White Heavyweight fan bases that are annoying, and believe all of their hype/excuses.
Joshua has the casuals that just want to see a guy with big muscles be the best.
Joshua I feel is only loved for his aesthetic and Creed like image, as to where Fury and Wilder's fan bases are set on the gimmick played by either guy.
With the bad comes the good though, guys like me/us that watch the sport of Boxing for the style match ups, ages of dominance, rivalries, etc. as opposed to some WWE shit, not that I don't mind the crazy antics in Boxing.
Joyce needs to try to take down Parker, Pulev, or Povetkin.
Though I'd really like to see him take on Andy Ruizor Hughie Fury. Is there a reason that Ruiz hasn't been mentioned yet?
As to the question, Tyson. In his prime he hadn't been beat or even tested. In his prime, Silva had lost a few ties so you knew e could be beaten.
You should read Tyson's book. When he had that street fight with Mitch Green, Tyson did alot more than just use his hands. Iirc, he did kick Green in the head when he was down.
I'm familiar with the stories. I don't have a lack of information on either man. I'd still be more fearful of the man that fought in the streets of Curitaba, Brazil, grew up doing Vale Tudo, and earned the nickname "The Axe Murderer". H2H in a street fight I would pick Tyson though, but against myself, in a street fight, I'd rather get a biopsy for fighting Tyson than an autopsy for fighting Wanderlei.
Mike Tyson is more well known so he's more feared in general, but if I HAD to street fight both I'd be more comfortable fighting Tyson. Only because Tyson would knock me out and leave me stiff as opposed to stomping my head into the pavement and soccer kicking me to death. I'd be worried about whether or not I'd wake up ever again as Wanderlei stomped me
Inoue had some things busted on him in the Donaire fight and kept going. He is tough as hell.
Inoue gives me hope for the future of the lighter weights. Hard hitting and tough as nails.
i like the one champ thing in the ufc, no ducking and diving and waiting for people to get old and padded records with all the politics
I like your reasoning, and agree with you. If there was only one belt per weight class, an American held one of those belts, and the weight class was super middleweight or greater the American boxing culture would improve.
Americans also love gimmicks, big fighters, and national pride. We'd need a boxer that inspires fear in the hearts of the viewers.
America loved Floyd, but he wasn't like Mike Tyson whom Americans are infatuated with.
Usman wouldn't beat glass chin Amir Khan in a boxing match.
MMA is just a very sub par version of boxing.
Technical and physical.
I think Haye would have a punchers chance. Once Usman hits the takedown, it's time to use the restroom and get some snacks because Usman is going to choke Haye out in a matter of a minute
Usman would beat Khan in a bare knuckle boxing match, even Artem Lobov a .500 fighter was able to beat Paulie.
Boxing is a small section of MMA, so realistically boxing is a sub par version of MMA. Boxing =/= Real Fighting
Main reason Khabib was able to land that is because Conor was ****ting himself over defending the takedown. He thought Khabib was shooting in. Faking the takedown and then throwing the right hand is a classic MMA wrestler technique. Its a little different to having a guy in front of you that you know is only going to punch. Maybe Canelo would do the opposite? fake the right hand and shoot in for a takedown or throw a head kick?...probably not.
This is the correct answer, thank you for handling that reply. All warfare is based on deception.
McGregor by KO
I hate McGregor, buuuuut Canelo is used to fairly large size gloves and is used to using them to block and counter. As seen in MMA, blocking isnt as important as avoiding the punch with your footwork/head movement and that is one thing McGregor does well is avoid oncoming punches and counter. Conor also has flying knees and spinning kicks in his repertoire that he could use freely with no fear of getting taken down. That's just the stand up aspect though Conor could land a takedown which is dangerous on the street and once it gets there he has a better grappling game than Canelo. Again, I hate Conor, he has become a star out of making an ass of himself and Canelo made is name on hard work and mastering his craft.
I think Ngannou is granite, look at his head it's like a cinder block, has he ever been really badly hurt in MMA? Fans of that code let me know.
But anyway, I don't see this guy going over easily at all, and Ngannou has the ability to counter AJ if AJ does plant his feet and unload, which he will be very tempted to do so because of expectations.
Ngannou was stunned one time by Stipe Miocic, but Ngannou immediately countered and knocked Stipe out and its because Stipe planted his feet.
Thurman needs to make up for his loss to PacMan.... Otherwise I don't mind Spence not fighting him.
This is how I see it. If Keith hadn't just lost to PacMan then Spence would probably do that fight. It doesn't behoove Spence to beat a man that just lost, and if Spence were to lose against Thurman it would destroy Spence's marketability and probably bump him out of the running to fight Crawford. I don't think Spence wants to risk his 0 if he can't take an 0 from his opponent.
At least Claressa is a real athlete....girl better have trained takedown defense, and ground get up skills. If Elkin has any wits she will try her hardest to drag Shields down.
