Can anyone give a breakdown of Ali's boxing skills? I believe he is the GOAT because he beat the best competition in history. Liston might be the #2 best heavyweight in history and Ali beat him in the 1st round. GOAT performance. I'm struggling to figure out what made Ali so great. Pre-layoff, he had lightning quick speed. Impossible to hit. After his layoff, he was slow and took a lot of hits. His power wasn't amazing. Yet, he still beat Frazier and Foreman so he must have done something right.
How was Ali's power?
Was his game fundamentally sound?
How was his defense?
Teddy Atlas says that Ali did everything wrong from a fundamental perspective. His hands were always below his waist. He got with it due to his other worldly skills.

Mostly his big mouth. He dubbed himself the "Greatest" but it was all PR boloney. He was very good when young, when older had enormous capability to take punishment, had a great chin. etc.
Nat Fleischer first, and then many boxing experts (certainly not including Teddy Atlas. He's only echoing what REAL experts said) had a discussion about him, and all said that he did so many things wrong, relying on his speed and reflexes, that when he slowed down he'd take severe punishment.
And that's exactly what happened. There were several better fighters in history than Ali, but none of them called himself "The Greatest".
Robinson...... That's all I needed to see. U could have had Spongebob at #2. I wouldn't care lol
I've got Spongebob at #1.
Come at me, bro !:boxing::firedevil
Fought everyone, some multiple times
Winning almost all the time
Left, came back, picked up where he left off.
Had ACTUAL skill vs the best of the best.
Those who say Fury is even ALi's equal are too g@y to be legit fight fans.
Robinson
Pep
Duran
The list is a moving target for me but I feel confident with those three for now. Lot of other greats that can make that short list.

Who u have as top 3...no particular order just throw out names
I don't have Ali as #1 but after saying he ain't close I'm curious to know who u have instead

In my opinion he was the complete fighter. No one up to this point really has anything on him. Longer win streak than Mayweather or Monzon or any of the other ATG’s with long unbeaten streaks. Fought longer and at a higher level than most other ATG’s as well. Did all this during an era when boxers fought multiple times a year, sometimes more than once a month.
Pretty much ..... He was the closest to being perfect and had every tool in the book at his disposal. Also had every mental attribute also which makes u think he would translate into any era
Yeah he literally was obsessed with Robinson when I first got into the sport. Those stories about him at 147 alone enough for me to rank him high asf lol

That’s a decent list, I rate Robinson at #1 also.

I don't have specific list outside of my #1. But.
1. SRR
2. Ali
3. Louis
4. SRL
I definitely have Ali in and Louis in my top 4. Most likely Ali at #2.
And I have said before the only fighter I'm biased towards is SRR so no point in questioning my #1 pick

Regardless what people here, media types etc think...ask his peers who the GOAT is, that’s all I need to to confirm what I already believe based on what I see with my own eyes.
KillaMane who is your top 3 I’d be interested to know.

He took on all comers and beat all different styles.
I wouldnt say Ali-Foreman was the most exciting fight of all time but it certainly was the most dramatic. The ending couldnt have been more movie-like.
Personally his style doesnt excite me that much but I have no doubt that he is the greatest. His resume speaks for itself.

He isn't the GOAT, not even close.

Fought the best never Cherry Pick to keep a Zero , Never Used Steroids or IV Flush to gain an advantage over the other guy.Never forced a fighter to wear pillow gloves
He beat 4 Olympic Gold medalists.
1st man to win the title 3 times.
Beat 3 of the 10 greatest heavyweights in history.
Beat 2 of those guys twice.
Faced all of the greatest fighters of his generation and beat just about all of them.
Completely unbeatable from '64-'67.
Beat a top 5 HW of all-time in Foreman wayyyy past his prime, while being the overwhelming underdog.
Fought all over the world and didn't cherry pick fights or places to fight.
He's the GOAT heavyweight and it isn't even close.
Joe Louis never beat a top 10 all-time heavyweight. Ali beat 3.
- -We get who U beat to, now be a good boy and run along.
