I was only aware of one world class contender or champ that Gonzales had fought, Niida. Very good win. Was it a fluke? We don't know yet. Does it mean that he'll KTFO of Calderon? Absolutely not.
I take it you have seen the fight with Niida otherwise you really shouldnt be having a conversation about someone you havent seen. If you have then you will realize that it was no fluke. RING magazine called it a " bludgeoning".
He also took out Varela that went 12 for the title with calderon in one and that was before calderon fought him. he beat gejon who fought for the title twice in one.
Calderon has done everything asked but he has been run very close by Barrera and cazares, neither of which Gonzalez would be a dog against.
Did Oscar beat anybody before he won the title, did maywether, did hatton?
No there title win was a defining moment and so was gonzalez against Niida.
he retired a respected champion in spectacular fashion and he will do the same to calderon because it's his time.
Running scared from a man your own size is a bitch move, dancing because your giving in, 6in in height 5 in reach and 17 pounds is call having P4P skills, Moron!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
He runs every fight, if he had to trade, he get the shit beaten out of him.
The ring won't be big enough for him when Gonzalez gets in there and that uppercut will tear him to bits.
If he makes it through six I'll be amazed. Niida looked like he'd been it by a truck after 3.
When was the last time you saw a great champion of 6 years retired after 3 rounds.
Your kidding yourself if you think Calderon can hold this kid off.
Says the guy who nuthuggs a guy with one decent win. Comparing Calderon to Niida dumb again!!!!!!
Does this looks like running?????
Gonzales wont touch Ivan!!!!!!!!! Keep dreaming !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if he stands like that in front of Gonzalez, he will get his clock cleaned. He hates uppercuts and that's gonzalez's bread and butter.
The scary thing about Gonzalez is , his performance goes up 100% the better the opposition. His three fights against world class contenders and champions have lasted 5 rounds total. One of the two guys who went the distance with him hit the canvas 7 times.
didn't Calderon give DLH a lesson in sparring once according to Roach? guy's QUICK.
Calderon will get blasted by Gonzalez who is fast powerful and a very skilled fighter.
And he told him in the article on fightnews today, he will have him anytime he wants it and anywhere. lets see him stop moaning about no one will fight him and fight best kid out there RING rated.
until then.. look how far gonzi can get... if he stays focus ! :boxing:

I heard his amateur record was 74-1 and the only loss was politically orchestrated. That's pretty phenomenal if he's only supposed to be a puncher.
According to idiots here. If you are not a KO artist then, you are not worth of being elite or for that Matter ATG
What we are saying is, no matter whether he runs or not Gonzalez will catch him, and those uppercuts will slow him down, if they don't knock him clean out.
The rest will just be a mop up job until he gets saved by the ref or the corner.
Well Calderon is getting up in years. But, Gonzales has fought one guy that wasn't a complete stiff, so I'd say he's a small Valero at this point. No telling how good he really is.
More like a young lopez I would say.
This dude is a fool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:hitit:
I respect your point of view but people will be clamoring for it with or without the belt after two more bludgeoning victories and then he will have little choice.
Cazares came in too big but he hurt Calderon bigtime. Punching power comes from superior technique and speed, of which Gonzales has in abundance.
The writing is on the wall, you just gotta read it.
Everyone who is interested in the sport knows who he is, you dont get a ring rating of 36 at 21 if your not a bit special.
Less of the loose lips as well, I dont normally get down to that level but like Gonzalez, I can mix it up if you want to.
I dont get it. The ones that bash it and claim that its a gay/unskilled/bar room brawl type of sport, seem to be the ones who are most concerned and constantly complain about it. Why constantly complain about something that you consider a "shit sport"? I posted a thread regarding its record breaking year, and how it may effect boxing (for the better), and all i got is a bunch of whiney men complaining and giving me red k. If i were postly solely about UFC, then i would expect the usual "take it to the mma forum" posts, but my thread was intended to draw opinions on the current state, and future of boxing, given UFC's achievements of last year.
I dont like golf, but im not gonna go out of my way to bash it if i dont like it. If i can give two shits about it, why waste my time bashing it? Some u men here need to stop acting like little twats, and man up. The only explanation for that type of behavior is insecurity. Im a boxing fan before im an mma/ufc fan, but truth be told, boxing has been taking a big dump on its fans over the past few years. Its getting quite hard to defend a sport that doesnt look after the fans who've made it what it is. Hopefully our sport will show more appreciation for us fans in this upcoming year.
It takes away from our sport, thats why.
:lol1: Chiquta Gonzalez is above Ivan Calderon. Not even argueable
Also Yukita Niida is a credible opponnet. He beat ronald barrera a lot easier then Calderon did.
Puerto Ricans are blind, they can't see beyond anything that dosen't carry their colors.
I'm gonna ask you the same thing I asked the other dude and never got a response, have you seen Gonzalez land those upper cuts against a boxer like Calderon, or any very slick boxer? If you have, tell me what fight was that so I can look it up and keep discussing, until then, the former super champ at 105 and recognized 108 champ takes him! Experts don't regard him as the best pure boxer since Floyd for no reason......... And pls, until Gonzalez doesn't fight anyone in Cazares caliber, don't compare them.
All the more reason for Calderon to take him out now because he is only going to get better.
Niida was a 7yr champion, thats a major scalp, in his backyard too.
You can only do what you are asked.
Calderon will have to stand and fight at some point and then it will be all over.
Gonzalez is much faster than Cazares, you cant land uppercuts like he does without super fast hands. cazares fights with his head wide open, he is easy to hit. Gonzalez fights from a very tight stance and will swat those pitty patty punches of calderon all day long.
Tell me please how Calderon keeps him off for 12 rounds. He cant score upstairs and if he dares to go to the body Gonzalez will destroy him.
Its actually the best fight for Gonzalez, because he can unleash the fury with no concern for anything incoming. And I dare to say it, his hands are as fast or faster than Ivans at this stage of his career.
Gonzalez is too high risk for not enough money probably, but hopefully they stay unbeaten until later in the year and then Calderon will get the big payday that his career deserves.
It will be his last one though.
That was a suprise rebuttal.
Gonzalez is young and a master at cutting off the ring, and when he does catch him, he will hit him with so many uppercuts he will be down and out. The referee wont be able to call it a slip as calderon falls like he did everytime Cazares hit him with one.
You obviously havent watched Gonzalez and I have seen nearly every Calderon fight.
Let me address your post by parts, why would Calderon want to take him now, who is he, who was Niida and who he fought?
Calderon will have to stand and trade at some point, yes, he can do that, he did it against a guy who weight 132 the night of the fight, why wouldn't he do it against Gonzalez who is unproven young fighter? Calderon is a very good clincher, if Gonzalez manages to hit him cleanly and hurt him, you can bet Calderon won't be there to take the second shot.
Gonzalez, faster than Calderon?....... Not even gonna go there.
Let me know when Gonzalez fights a slick boxer...
Ok lets take another fighter, Ronald barrera; he lost a split to calderon but was easily beaten by Niida, who then was destroyed by Gonzalez. None of these fighters were washed up so the form line is strong.
Wherever you put the comparison of common denominators Gonzalez comes out better except experience and you only get that from fighting the best.
Calderon says no one will fight him so Gonzalez calls him out.
Where are you Ivan?
if this guy is for real... then tell him to move up in weight... grab a belt.. and unify with ivan.. since nobody wants to do it...!! ironboy is the one who call the shots in the lower weights..
if gonzalez moves up to 108 .... grab a belt... u can bet... that ivan is gonna accept the fight.... hes looking for bigger things... and will give him a boxing lesson.. just like he did to cazares...
move up in weight and u will get the fight,.
He has had 8 fights at 108 and took out Varela before calderon defended his title against him in one round, Varela went the trip with calderon, of course because he cant punch worth a shit.
This is the biggest fight, you just don't know it because of blind ignorance.
Wake up, the end is nigh for the Iron boy
the triangle logic shit doesnt work in boxing
get a belt @ 108 and get your shot or keep waiting.
which part u dont understand?
listen ... i would love to see that fight... it seems like gonzales is for real!!! ... THAT DOESNT CHANGE THE FACT.. THAT HES BARELY UKNOWN.. .and doenst bring anything for ivan.. unless hes a champ aT 108 and they can unify..
calderon is not going back to 105 .. we know gonzales wants a payday.. and thats fair enough.. but do ur part
GET A BELT... OR KEEP WAITING
You think Calderon is going to fight anyone with any stamp feb 21st, give me a break.
This dude sounds like he started watching boxing 2 days ago.
Im 51 years old have been in and around the game for 30 years.
Im not Nicaraguan either but your obviously Puerto Rican.
I know what I see, and this boy is for real.
They have two common opponents they have fought, Gonzales dispatched both in a total of 3 rounds, Calderon took 21.
It would be a good fight but regardless of who wins minimum weight king Roman Gonzalez will destroy the winner.
I hear he is ready for either one should they come knocking, but dont hold your breath for that to happen anytime soon.
People are disillusioned, Floyd has many fans.
Floyd was never a big draw in the early days, even when he had belts, he needed the marquee opponent, I was at a lot of those fights and it was easy to find a seat down the front.
I think that is only true for the Hatton fight. Around 6k came over to see Malignaggi which i think is half of what went to Mayweather. But Gatti has sold out the Boardwalk hall in his last several fights before Mayweather. And we all know De La Hoya sold out crowds against all fighters of recent years
6000 is 5000 more than probably any nation has ever sent to watch a fighter on foreign soil.
Its not cheap to fly, hotel , ticket and party for a week.
Its not his faithful had given, up just economics.
It seems like the WBA minimum champ, young sensation Roman Gonzalez had a surprisingly rough fight against challenger Francisco Rosas.
Majority dec: 115-113, 115-114, 114-114.
Anyone who has some more facts?
Gonzalez was wasting to make weight due to a bit of inexperience and then got sick just before the fight. The fight was also brought forward an hour on the day, which didnt help.
He threw up in the corner at the end of the ninth and then took the last three rounds with pure guts.
It wasnt pretty but a great learning experience for the young champion, and the title is still in hand.
The fight also was not even close and the judge who had it a tie was a joke.
I hear they might be looking to fill canchilas spot with calderon in May after his defeat saturday.
