In boxing we all know Floyd Pretty Boy Mayweather is the biggest draw in boxing, or at least one of the biggest. But how big of a draw is he really? I am talking in terms of people paying to go see him live in an arena.
These are his mega fights.
Mayweather-Hatton. I think around 80 percent were pro Hatton and traveled half way around the world to see Hatton.
Mayweather-De La Hoya. Larry Merchant "About 90 percent of the crowd is pro de la hoya"
Judah-Mayweather. Good crowd this could be the fight where he was the draw or the combination of a great undercard it had.
Mayweather-Gatti. 12k plus sold out at the Boardwalk Hall. Gatti's popularity and fight style in that area generated the live attendence. Mayweather fought Demarcus Corley in the same arena and didnt bring in half of what the gatti fight did.
If Mayweather fought Pacquiao, Margarito, or Hatton, or even Cotto. Wouldnt it be safe to say Mayweather is NOT the draw in these fights because we all know just about everyone in that crowd will be Filipino, Mexican, British, or Puerto Rican

Name Hatton's non-FMJ pay per views (in the US). Hatton-Collazo wasn't sold out. Hatton-Castillo wasn't sold out. Hatton-Malignaggi was on free HBO. Why was Hatton-Mayweather a HUGE fight, then? Why?
Name Gatti's non-FMJ pay per views.
Name Judah's biggest PPV.
Name Delahoya's biggest fight?
All coincidence....right?
What about the Fights Floyd headlines.. Has he ever "headlined" a PPV??
Before he fought Gatti.. the man was virtually invisible..
Floyd's Biggest fights have all been against ALREADY established TV stars..
I think his drawing power is limited to the man in front of him..
I also think a sizable chunk of the Boxing public has lost interest in him...
Believe me people do not order these fights or go see them live with Mayweather to watch him fight. Its to see the other guy and to see Mayweather lose/get knocked out.
If you want Mayweather's draw power to be defined as drawing people to come see him lose then i would say his draw power is pretty big.
But as far as drawing people to see him because he is exciting and puts on a show. It is pretty damn small
THIS IS IDIOTIC.
Oscar's biggest PPV? Floyd.
Hatton's biggest - err, ONLY - PPV? Floyd.
Gatti's biggest - err, ONLY - PPV? Floyd.
Judah's biggest PPV? Floyd.
Baldomir's only PPV? Floyd.
What DID Pac sell vs Morales/Barrera/Marquez? What WOULD Pac sell vs Mayweather?
Sooooo, either Floyd is a draw.... or the luckiest muthafukka on the planet!!
the reason why it sold was because floyd was considered "the best" *cough* and who wouldnt want to see their favorite fighter (gatti, baldomir, etc) beat him up? without them floyd does 12k buys tops :boxing:

and Floyd without those guys.
0 PPVs
DLH without Floyd, over a million, more than once.
DLH sold a tuneup as a PPV and did over 500g.
Margo-SSM will get close to 15 K n the staples center and we know SSM can't draw...less than 5k vs Mayorga...Ask urself what would SSM-PBF do? NOT MANY...PBF needs a big time draw and he needs to sell it being the vilian if he fought a fighter with no fan base it wouldn't sell much
What is the difference in ticket price between Margarito-Mosley and Floyd-Hatton (or Floyd-Oscar). Floyd does need to fight someone good to really sell because he is the villian and people pay to see the villian lose so he has to fight people that could possibly bring that about. Floyd has fans though all his fights did more then 300k which is pretty good (which is augmented by the people that hate him and pay to see him get beat and will watch him against anyone in that hope).
Everyone draws more when they fight a super high quality opponent that could possibly win, this is not exclusive to Floyd because it takes 2 to make huge fights.
6000 is 5000 more than probably any nation has ever sent to watch a fighter on foreign soil.
Its not cheap to fly, hotel , ticket and party for a week.
Its not his faithful had given, up just economics.
Calzaghe-Hopkins over 9K ppl from Wales
Calzaghe-Jones same number
2times in a year
GB RULES!!!
Calzaghe would outsell Hopkins in Philly, Hatton would do the same with MAyweather in Grand Rapids!!

People are disillusioned, Floyd has many fans.
Floyd was never a big draw in the early days, even when he had belts, he needed the marquee opponent, I was at a lot of those fights and it was easy to find a seat down the front.

Mayweather tends to ride the coattails of the guys he is fighting.. He is never the main draw.. Never the Hero.. But he draws people who simply want to see him lose.. SO he does have some pulling power..
I think that is only true for the Hatton fight. Around 6k came over to see Malignaggi which i think is half of what went to Mayweather. But Gatti has sold out the Boardwalk hall in his last several fights before Mayweather. And we all know De La Hoya sold out crowds against all fighters of recent years

erm dickhead... i asked how much ppv numbers that fight took... I didnt say it took 900,000. Dumb ****.
Mr 'Roy Jones and Floyd ducked the best fighters'... You make these stupid posts and have the nerve to critisize me for asking a question.
But my posts are true.
Yours are just ridiculous.
900,000?
Seriously?
Before DLH and Hatton?
What year did you start watching boxing?
2009?
Yeh, im the most terrible poster here... ermmm, coming from the guy that is Floyds most passionate hater, does'nt make me surpised by your stupid comments.
I was obviously wrong about the ppv numbers hence why i said can someone confirm... and it did around half of what i thought. I was'nt entirely sure hence why i asked.
Unlike your posts.... 'Floyds ducking Cotto and Margarito because he's a sacred bitch'... who sounds more stupid, me or you? Clown.
Don't let him get to you mate, even if he ever acts cocky, sarcastic, or arrogant... just ignore him. If you bite to what he says he will only carry on. I know people can be annoying on this forum (I'm not saying the guy you argued with is annoying... hes done nothing to me) though so I understand what you were saying.
You do.
900,000

Also how much did the Mayweather vs Baldomir ppv do in terms of ppv numbers? Did it hit 900,000 ppv buys? I think it was close to this figure? Can someone confirm how much it did please.
