Excerpt from a recent interview with Roman Gonzalez, minimum weight World champion.
When asked about the prospect of fighting the great Ivan Calderón, the humbleness disappears out the window as the alter ego of Gonzalez oozes with anticipation. “I don’t have a great deal of experience against lefties, but if Calderon wants to fight, I will gladly jump up a weight class and accommodate him, and I guarantee, I will be ready to give him a real beating.”
Gonzalez, although having the utmost respect for Calderón’s achievements, seems to have little fear of the pound-for-pound star. “I will fight him anywhere: in the backyard of my house or his,” he jokes.
Ulesis Solis is another champion that Gonzalez has problems holding back on. “I would love to fight Solis ‘cause he beat a teammate of mine named Nerys Espinoza. He was able to get by Nerys, but he will not be able to handle my pressure.”

Props for bringing this article to everyone's attention. Gonzalez is a blast to watch--literally and figuratively.
looks like all the Puerto ricans have had enough
u have no case dude. no time to waste on u. if gonzales wants calderon tell him to get a belt at 108 and maybe the fight is made.
I dont think he wants the fight right now, I think he is just setting it up, all great matchups have to build a momentum and gonzalez has got the ball rolling. perhaps the fight after next could be on US tv, that would help a lot.
Two more fights each and then the big one in the fall.
Calderon deserves the payday to take on a dangerous guy like Gonzalez.
Gonzalez will have his paydays after when he dethrones him.

Nobody knows what the hell Calderon is talking about, if he moves down or stays he will fight Gonzalez because he does have a good win under his belt
Yutaka Niida. Its because Gonzalez is talking about fighting right now after Feb 21, at 108, to make it less stressful of Calderon having to move back down in weight, hes not talking about at the end of the year. Calderons best option is moving up in weight because thats where all the popular people are and after 32 fights he wants that $$$$

Roman Gonzalez vs Yukita Niida part two:
Roman Gonzalez vs Eriberto Gejo:
Also...it's funny saying how "GONZALEZ NEEDS TO MOVE TO 108!", but yet Calderon a couple months ago was talking about fighting at 105 again against Donnie Nietes.
Gonzalez is growing, he really needs to move up, i dont think he can wait for Calderon for 6 months at 105. Calderon only has to make the call and he will be accomadated.

Because people were mention that it didn't matter that Gonzalez KOd 2 other Calderon opponnets at 105.
And styles make fights, Gonzalez is a horrible style for Calderon. He'l tall, awkward, fast, tight defense, and insanely strong. He cuts off the ring extrememly well.
I'm not saying that Gonzalez deserves a shot at Calderon right now, and I'd like to see Calderon face someone like Solis, but Gonzalez would definietly beat him imo.
Gonzalez last fight in December is on gofightlive.com
Maybe Chiquita could be ahead of Calderon.
An what the hell niida beating Barrera a lot easier than Calderon, have anything to do with Gonzalez vs Calderon? Styles makes fights!!!!!!!!!

thanks for that.
He sounds a bit lost actually but I suppose if you cant get a fight with anyone at your best weight, must be a bit confusing. I dont understand Solis not wanting the fight. Whats the downside to losing to Ivan calderon, its not like he has a great legacy to risk.

If he's true to his word Gonzalez is his fight at 105
s p e l l i t ... like that to see it .. thanks for the article :boxing:

Who the hell is Calderon gonna fight on the 21st of Feb? Not Gonzalez with a month to train, and prepare for with a dangerous unknown fighter from South America who no one even heard of before two days ago. all of sudden theres someone on Calderons level surre, I dont belive it you need proof, thats why Calderon said he wants to move up in weight to avoid fighting for crums and taking on bums for the rest of his career like every PR before him, fighting only the best of the best.

To shed a bit of light on this subject, Calderon has been training for a while and in a November interview, which is on Youtube he was talking of going back to 105, his words.
Gonzalez has not signed his first defense yet but it is looking like it will be in Japan in March, as Teiken are co promoting him and the money is there.
Any fight with Calderon is probably not going to happen until late fall by which time Gonzalez will have moved up and it will be a very sellable fight or
Calderon wants to come down and do it at 105.
so if you cant get a fight against the best, in your mind, why not take the next best option at 108? Gonzalez has stated he is ready to jump up.
Feb 21, Calderon will fight a bum I expect.
What your really trying to say, is, its too much risk for not enough money, although you dont respect Gonzalez, which is somewhat contradictory.
:kabong:.......................
calderon will fight his mandatory....... not sure.... of this.. but i think thats the case
boxing works in different ways but in situation like this..
u pay to the sanction bodies they rank you and eventually if u win your fights you become the challenger for a belt.
have gonzalez done that..??/ coz if not... the only way to get a shot to the belt is that you bring enough money to the table so you can pay a sum to the challenger or the sanction body to step aside in order to let you fight the champion....
or that your name is big enough that the champions knows that you will bring good money for both.
so what is gonna be ... since your BOY DOESNT BRING THAT OR HAVENT DONE THAT/?
