You have no idea, but even if, u can not make intentional contact to an opponents eye with anything other than a punch. Thank Sonny for that!
I understand, but, I saw the video again and I see no eye gauging by Chaves. So, what in the hell was the reason for the disqualification?
I thought it was a rough and tumble fight that was stopped erroneously by a ref. It benefited Rios and Chaves got robbed of a possible win.
It's as simple as that.
Just another crappy night of boxing. LOL.
Both fighters were getting rough in there; the point is that it wasn't rough enough for a fighter to be disqualified. I've seen Hopkins do more fouls in one round than the combined fouls of both these guys during the fight.
Sometimes, these refs get too damn old, but boxing keeps them as refs. Vic has been around for a while, he's done OK most of the fights I've seen, but I think everyone can agree that he messed this one up.
I didn't see anything to worry Thurman or Kell Brook for that matter. It was dirty and compelling, but skill? Not the boxing type. Chaves was getting the better of any boxing, but dirt flew both ways. I'm sure the DQ saved the judges from anouncing a rediculous win for Rios.
Nah, bro, Chaves was ahead on 2 scorecards...
Don't wet your swelling vaginas on Sergio! Pwill will destroy him in their 3rd and final match...:D
Why do these dumb post exist? I would throw anyone out of this forum if they make more than 3 dumb comments. And judging by this comment, this guy probably exceeded that on his fourth comment.
Moore would be too small for the Klits. The Klits would probably soften Moore up with some jabs, then knock him out after the sixth.
The better question would be, how would the 90's Bowe fair against today's heavies?
Too early to tell at this point. Juanma has the better skills, but Hamed was pretty quick with knock out power.
Come back in two years and I'll give you a better assesment.
I remember that fight. Hopkins' injury was a little suspect. But Hopkins did redeem himself in the rematch. I am not a huge fan of Hopkins. He's an all time great, but I found him boring to watch. Cintron, however, is not great, and had several strange fights. The phantom headbutt by Sergio Martinez being one of them.
And that my friend, is why we suspect Cintron of being flightless bird that tried to fly away in the Paul Williams fight.
I am not sure what exactly is being implied by the thread. But the heavyweight divsion is going to be dominated by Eastern Europeans, the Russians, and former countires run by the Russians, for a very long time.
Still, many of the top guys avoided Joan Guzman for years. Morales, Barrera, Marquez, just to name a few.
It must have been for something.
And, with all the undiscipline and inconsistent fighting schedule, and fighting at a weight class he doesn't belong in, the man is still undefeated.
He didn't potshot at 122 or 126. The only reason he's fighting that way now is because the man doesn't even belong at 140. At most, he should be fighting at 135. But watch some tape of the man fighting at 122 or 126.
And that is exactly my point. We all know Guzman is past his prime. He still has some skills left and that is an attestment to his raw talent. Guzman will never regain his youth and the success he could have become.
But, in my opinion, Guzman had that raw talent that can't be taught. If he would've been focused, he could've gone very far in the sport.
And that is what I am trying to communicate.
Wlad has cleaned out heavyweight.
Most the fighters at light heavyweight have fought each other, its just that no one has emerged as the clear best.
Ward has nearly cleaned out super middleweight.
Sergio has fought a lot of contenders, and will continue to do so unless he gets Mayweather.
The guys at 154 are all starting to fight each other.
The guys at 140 are about to have a mini-tourney to determine who the best is.
Mikey Garcia just beat the best at 126 and is the man there.
Donaire and Rigondeaux are about to fight and determine who the man of that division is.
That's 8 divisions where the best have or will fight. If you don't want to count Sergio at middleweight because he hasn't fought everybody and probably won't, then it's still 7 divisions. Boxing is fine.
I think some of the fight you mentioned are great, and I looking forward to it. But as it stands right now, Andre Ward and Sergio Martinez are the only ones who can claim to be the best fighter of their division. You have outlined them yourself in your response.
Donaire and Rigo are going to go at it but what about Mares. There is a mini tournament by GBP but what about Brandon Rios.
I've followed the sport for about 20 years or so and there were always these issues, but lately, it seems as if the best fights out there are really harder to come by than 8 year or so ago.
People can say what they want about De La Hoya, but Oscar fought Quartey, Mosley, Trinidad and every possible contender at that time. The same could be said for most of the other divisions. Obviously, not all fights were made, but most of the important ones were. Today we jump for joy whenever two top guys in the division fight.
It just seemed more common not too long ago.
I am not sure how you see the sport in great condition when the 2 biggest promoters in the world won't do any business with each other.
And when you have a powerful adviser like Al Haymon produce events that are consistently in favor of their fighters. I hear these HBO announcers say all the time "this is a build up, the fighter is working his way up...." but the next fight we see the same type of showcase fight.
It's kinda like be told that the 4th appetizer is the last one before the meal but all we get are appetizers.
And in my opinion, it's that fear of losing 0. Losing the undefeated record is almost like a death sentence in boxing. And that's ridiculous.
If there is anything I can admire about the UFC is that they don't care about records. They care about putting a show that is competitive and entertaining. While in boxing, it seems that the opposite is true; forget about competitive fights and entertainment, lets preserve that 0 and keep having showcase fights.
Though a lot of people watch them. Hopkins is a legend and very well known in casual fans minds. People tune in to see the guy fight regardless of how it plays out. Mosley-Mal isn't the best fight but its also two known guys and people will watch it regardless. What young fighters do you want to showcase and headline a card? It's hard to get casuals interested enough to tune into people they know nothing about. Hopkins fight should be good, Mosley not so much but either way they're not as terrible as Arum makes them out to be.
But how will you attract casual boxing fans if the fights are boring? And how many casual boxing fans really tune in on a regular basis? The casual boxing fan knows 2-3 fighters and watches 2-3 fights a year. The people who support boxing are the ones who watch boxing on a regular basis and get crapped on by the networks by staging crappy fights.
What will attract fans is having entertaining fights. And whether you like it or not Knockouts is what brings the crowd.
Hopkins, as genius as a fighter he is, is boring to watch. And boring will not bring in more casual fans. That is why Gatti, who at the most was a B level fighter, brought in fans whether he lost or won, becase they knew somebody was getting knocked out.
I have to agree. I'll be the first to admit Hopkins is one of the best fighters of this generation, however, I also have to admit that the fights he's had for the past 12 years have put me to sleep.
Hopkins is like that independent film that wins all the awards but is incredibly boring to watch.
I didn't see the fight...is there ever a replay? Cause I'd do this on the regular considering how many sorry excuses for judging I've seen...but I don't want to lie...so I need to see the fight...
I normally accuse the judges of stupidity, but this looked like a con job. This felt corrupt.
I like Sergio especially the way he fought.. but hey, he lacks the heart of a true champion because he is terrified fighting real oppositions just one step northward, but had all the couraged chiding Pac to fight him above pac weight limit. Sergio was 158lbs on the scale and weighed 165lbs on fight night??? Pac was just 145lbs on scale and still 145lbs on fight night, yet he tried fighting in JMW (147.1 - 154lbs) while in 145lbs and won!!! He will not come back again in JMW because he realized, that was no longer his weight, but at least he tried, and for this, pac have a heart of a true champion, that Sergio did not understand! Sergio is now becoming just an incidental champion to me because he was molded as that by lack of real opposition on his present weight class. And embarassingly, he window-shopped for smaller oppositions!:boxing:
I like Manny, and the way he fights, but his last 3 fights have been a dissapointment. Marquez is over the hill just like Mosley, and Margarito was a shot fighter. I understand you're Filipino and all, but the truth is that Manny has not fought the best competition out there.
Surprise, surprise, two out of the three judges gave the first round to Paul Williams.
It's a good thing Martinez knocked Williams out because he was going to get robbed again.
DOWN WITH INCOMPETENT AND CORRUPT JUDGES!!
PICKED HIM UP AND SLAMMED HIM ON THE GROUND?
WTF fight were you watching?
Hopkins missed big and draped himself over Dawsons back like a freaking pancho.
Dawson pushes forward and stand up a little and Hopkins hit the deck.
Happens about every 10 seconds in boxing.
And as for you crying "FOUL"...uh...I didnt see the ref call ANYTHING close to a foul. In fact...looks to me like the ref waved off the fall as NO KNOCKDOWN and was waiting for Hopkins to lift his old kiester off the mat.
Yeah, and it's funny that hese B-Hop lovers are claiming foul.
Hopkins is the dirtiest fighter in boxing for the past 15 years. And B-Hop are calling foul. Isn't that funny.
I remember watching Hopkins punch Keith Holms leg about 50 times. I've never seen a fighter punch another mans thigh that much. Oh, but for B-Hop fans all this is legal. But when someone pushes Hopkins off their back, HOPKINS WAS BODY SLAMMED>
Get out of here.
SAME people crying foul on this are the ones that were squealing with joy about how Ortiz should have "Protected himself at all times" or "Win now, look good next time" BOTH events were sketchy, NEITHER is a foul or illegal. The double standard here is hypocritcal and super gay.
You are basically saying its a foul to "STAND UP REAL HARD IF A MAN IS DRAPED OVER YOUR BACK"
Retarded.
TKO cause Old man river wouldnt get up and even ATTEMPT to fight.
Yeah, and it's funny that hese B-Hop lovers are claiming foul.

I think there is this air of subjectivity in the way boxing is scored. And it's killing the sport.
How many controversial decisions do you see in MMA?
Very few.
How many controversial decisions occur in boxing?
I would say about 50% of the decisions are bad.
We are so accustomed to it that a close fight that goes to the wrong person is acceptable.
What the Texas commission should look into is the horrible job Lawrence Cole performed during the fight.
Broner using his elbows all night without a point deduction, and a blatant punch AFTER the bell sounded in the eleventh.
The people in this forum have got to be the most negative and miserable people in the world.
IT WAS A GREAT FIGHT!
Leave it at that.
I am done with this forum, and I advise all of you here to enjoy the fight and stop being so damn critical.
DAMN.
