Once the USSR fell we instantly saw a new crop of eastern Euro fighters join the landscape. Europe is doing just as well currently in terms of champions, maybe better. Especially in the larger weight classes.

Honestly It should be "the great american hope" because it's really a nationalistic thing when it comes to the Klits. I say this because the same b1tching and moaning was going on when Lennox was champ. Americans were praying and hoping Grant would take the strap from Lewis and when he got destroyed....they rallied behind a shot Mike Tyson. Not sure how many were following boxing close in the early part of the decade, but there were tons of articles etc...hyping up American fighters to become the HW champ (regardless of color). I agree Lennox got alot of hate for being British not for being Black

But unfortunately, the reality is there are still 1) mentally ill self-hating whites who probably were abused by their fathers and so hate white men, 2) gay white men who are attracted only to black dudes and get excited only by black boxers, and 3) a few black supremacists like Bhopreign. There seems to be a double standard. We've often heard "great white hope" and there was even a movie "the great white hope" and another "the great white hype" But you'll be accused of being racist as some people get upset with "great black hope" That DOUBLE STANDARD is racist. I don't understand how it's a contradiction when the people who coined the term are now into their 50's and 60's That generation of boxing has long gone, racism was more acceptable back then. I figured it had died down a bit but if you want to keep using racial terms thats fine.

I agree it's a double standard. Funny thing is I doubt the black HW's back in the day cared about race when they were fighting. Its self hating white liberals and racist jews that poked fun at great white hope fighters failing. But now that we have the klits, they just shrugg it off as " hey well the division is weak" And I know a lot of black boxing fans and they don't root for only blacks. So in conclusion the haters are all self hating white liberals and racist jews.

I think the race card is been played too much and consequently loosing value. I have grown up hearing the term "White Hope" and if it wasn't racist then, saying "Black hope" is not today. Less stop with the crybaby sht.
