Centro de Cancun, Cancun, Mexico - James Kirkland (30-1, 27KOs) stopped Alfredo Angulo (20-2, 17KOs) in the sixth round of a war. The fight was a WBC junior middleweight eliminator for a mandatory shot at the champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. In a sure fire round of the year, Kirkland was knocked down hard by a big right hand in the first thirty seconds of the first, and survived a wild swinging Angulo for nearly two minutes. Once Angulo punched himself out, Kirkland started battering Angulo, knocked him down, and nearly finished him off by the end of the first bell. After several more rounds of warfare, the referee jumped in as Kirkland punished Angulo against the ropes in the sixth. Photos by Robert Fernandez/Hoganphotos and Al. Salazar Quequi

What an epic 1st round. I did not expect Angulo to get beat like that, hats off to James Kirkland.

I agree with the commentators when they mentioned that the fight could've been on ppv.

Kirkland has yet to beat a solid boxer with skills. To be honest Angulo was just a stupid brawler who was gassed after the first round already punching himself out, verry dumb. He should have been more patient but hes not fast, skilled and has a bad defense anyway so Kirkland definitaly impressed me but he still has to beat a solid fast boxer. A guy like Lara could be nightmare for him.

Excuses Are Like *******s
listen puta, perro didn't train. in that case kirkland the monkey was exposed badly by a feather fisted, old, unknown, with many loses, japanese. in his own backyard too. so stf up el perro is coming back and beats kirkland in a rematch.
Typical comment from an ignorant @ $ $ bigot who doesn't know s h i t about boxing. Do us all a favor and stop posting. :bryce:

Kirkland Dominated Angulo
Going into this fight I thought Angulo was the more technically sound fighter but Kirkland stepped up his game and thoroughly dominated Angulo for the duration of the fight. Now I know all of Angulo's fans,ie...so-called Hispanics(Mestizos)will make endless excuses for their fighter(particularly because he lost to a Black fighter)but Kirkland was the better fighter and proved as much. Respect to Anne Wolfe for coming up with a great game plan. :boxing:
