I am saying it right now; Joan Guzman could've beat all of them. Everyone from 122 to 135. Besides Mayweather, Guzman had the most natural talent in the sport.
With a better promotor and more discipline, Guzman would've been a P4P fighter.
Do you all agree?
his mothers death from cancer really made him lose alot of motivation but now he is motivated ! but all in all hes had weight problems since forever he could never keep the weight down.. dominican food is a big factor in that... it tastes very very good
That's sounds tough for Guzman. We'll see in his next couple fights if he has regained that motivation he lost. Hopefully he has.
Never tried Dominican food. Sounds good though.
Guzman didn't have raw talent, it was developed talent and he has skills to match. At 122, he would've destroyed pretty much anyone there. Under 135, he would've outboxed most.
Would've, could've, should've, is in the past though. Hopefully he's not too far past it or above a good weight for him to actually do damage. The way he fought against the huge Funeka tells me that he can still do damage up to 140, but he won't be able to do it in the same way he could'veif he did it below 135.
I agree but he needs to fukkin turn his punches over. He slaps too much.
Argenis Mendez is picking up that bad habit also. Atleast Guzman is working on that, I noticed in the rematch against Funeka.
I agree with the TS.. However.. I cant take him seriously anymore.. hes a 4-6 round fighter.. his conditioning is horrific, along with his weight and diet.. his lazyness was his downfall IMO..
I was a big guzman fan up until he started f u c k i n g around with his weight. i dont blame his promotion problems ect.. he shouldve stuck with floyd sr.. He had it all.. sick defense, good chin, speed, power at the lower weights.. now hes a tubby man.. and keeps moving up in weight.. a waste
:lol1: @ joan guzman. It's about accomplishments, not coulda/shoulda/woulda..
right?
I think there are actually some people in society as a whole when they know they are more talented in certain aspects they tend to slack in areas other than that because they know their talent brings them through things more often than not.
Panchito Bojado is by far the most talented fighter I have seen in action (training wise talent wise and just a natural instinct for the sport) yet his work ethic was crap largely because he knew he could get by with being more talented than others. His career ended with no one caring and him being the butt of a lot of jokes locally
Oh definitely. Humberto Soto hadn't lost in forever when they fought at 130 (the weight class where Soto was a formidable opponent), and he just outclassed him in every way.
Guzman was P4P worthy in my opinion in talent.
i often see people with the extreme talent or intelligence (in general) but lack the work ethic to succeed. conversely, there are also people that works hard but unfortunately lacks the talent/intelligence and often their success are limited also.
agree with the TS, joan has the goods but not the work ethic :(
And that is exactly my point. We all know Guzman is past his prime. He still has some skills left and that is an attestment to his raw talent. Guzman will never regain his youth and the success he could have become.
But, in my opinion, Guzman had that raw talent that can't be taught. If he would've been focused, he could've gone very far in the sport.
And that is what I am trying to communicate.
you could say that about a lot of fighters though
when people discuss the term intangibles this is exactly what they mean
you could have all the talent in the world but if you can't put it together then you are nothing more than the equivalent of a street baller, all the talent in the world but not the game to do anything about it.
Guzman was talented, he may still be for all I know or really care.
Every fighter goes through issues and adversity people really need to stop making excuses for this man he did all this to himself. Tragedy happens to everyone, does not mean it's an excuse to screw up yet to hear it most of you guys want to give Guzman a pass because of ti
he only has himself to blame for the sever underachievement that is his career

Guzman vs Kobayashi
Could have, should have, would have, I agree. Never a fan of his, but he could been at least a top p4p fighter.
But what bugged me was his not only weight issues, but Guzman's inactivity. He literally fought only once year at one point.
Good promoter and discipline is what he lacked. I also think he's just not passionate enough about boxing. I could be wrong, but inactivity and little commitment to make weight are signs of lacking interest.

lee beard has been working on that with him. that guzman needs to punch with knuckle part of glove.. when he does so he can bang!harold leterman said it himself
