David Tua v Lennox Lewis, 2000. I was still a kid, and David's rise through the late 90's captured the attention of the New Zealand public - who are absolutely rugby and cricket mad.
I didn't know much about boxing - but something about sitting on the floor in my living room, playing with my figurines, copying what was on the screen, has stuck with me.
Well Parker should get Dubois, but I think Bakole and Parker should run it back. I mean, it didn’t even last a full 2 rounds and he got caught with a weird punch that landed in a weird spot.
I'm definitely against running it back. If it were a freak injury or something that felled Bakole, sure. But as "weird" as the KO punch from Parker was, it was still a KO punch. He sparked him in 2, and he already hurt Bakole before the final punch, as much as Bakole tried to shake it off.
I give credit to Bakole for stepping up, but he can't have his cake and eat it too. He got the money, now take the L and rebuild - second chances make the first chance seem like a waste.
I can't see Khan outworking Canelo over 12, nor can I see him being aggressive enough to steal 50/50 rounds. If it goes 12, it'll be because Khan survived Canelo's bully tactics, somehow. Still, Khan has my support!
They're not gonna go to DC and bring him lol. He doesn't have much choice. Not like he'll run being famous and all
Terrible reflection of the jurisdiction the authorities have in the US.
We know exactly where he's going to be, but..he's in a different state, so we won't bother.
Ugh.
I know i'm late to the news, but what did Broner do this time?
did he assault another old lady and snatched her purse?
Felony assault and aggravated robbery.
Lost some $ in a bowling bet - wanted double or nothing, was refused, so beat the guy unconscious and stole his money.
For a title fight he couldn't even be serious or professional.. Hope he doesn't look back one day and think he could have done more to achieve more in his career.
He's more likely to look back one day and wonder how he lost his freedom.
Shannon Briggs makes me think of Ken Shamrock every time I see him.
Looks absolutely ridiculous - big yet lean and vascular, really good aesthetically despite being 100 years old.
Then I realize he's old, he can't move, and all the abs in the world won't stop you from folding like a cheap chinese car when you get hit.
David Haye will turn Briggs' face into a fine slurry, a bowl of paste.
He is a total idiot and a clown but im slowly warming to him, he's like a real life gypsy david brent :lol1:
denium i think im nearly ready to join the fury retard club buddy :theyareon
Fair point. I mean, it's better than being as boring as paper. Still, I wanna join the fan club of people with some wit, not just the ability to talk crap.
There's nothing sharp about Fury, it's just nonsense.
Even his loyalists will get bored with it eventually, then move on to the next 15min guy.
It's not about being clever or witty i think you're missing the point. In the age of endless press conferences with the same questions and answers being endlessly repeated... his straight talking is a huge breath of fresh air whether he's being intentionally funny/idiotic or not.
I don't even consider it straight talking - that to me would imply there's some truth or some substance to what he's saying. But most of the stuff that comes out of his mouth is just drivel. He throws a volume of crap against the wall and some of it sticks.
What made the greatest speakers of all, ie Ali great, was that they could tell fables and talk trash in a way that had some wit. He could run verbal rings around people. Fury just talks because his mouth is proportionate to the rest of his body.
Sure, it beats cardboard conferences, but damn, it gets old fast. It's probably fine while he's holding a strap, but as soon as he fights someone other than a statue, and gets some of that crap stuffed back in his mouth, fans will start to sour on it.
Without the belt, he's just a jacked up version Adrien Broner, verbally.
Fury brought up David Haye having sex with 20 men at a press conference. The bloke is a mad dog with a microphone.
I don't know about mad dog. But he is an idiot. And people love idiots - good sound bites.
From an ethical boxing perspective, I haven't heard a single reasonable argument defending "Canelo-weight".
And unless someone is bringing a decent argument to the table, I don't particularly care.
I know I'm only one man, but as the saying goes, gotta vote with your feet. And I'm happy to have no desire to buy a Canelo fight - haven't yet, and still won't. Otherwise, I'm encouraging more bull*****.
Fair question - I've wondered the same thing for a while. The bottom weights are a convoluted mess, yet there's a significant gap up top.
I can understand a larger separation as the weights move up, relative to percentages, but it's still a jump.
Not saying we need more divisions (we don't, things are a fkn joke as it is), but curious to know.
Did you really just say sound bites don't make legendary fighters in a thread about Muhammad Ali?? Are you really that vacant? The louisville lip may fu(king disagree with you XD Ali is the Greatest of All Time purely on the back of shouting it a million times... or did you miss the part where Frazier won the first fight?
Re-phrase - sound bites with substance.
One talks, the other actually says something.
Could be Hearns-Leonard 1 with or without the rallying knockout from the smaller man..(and no Fury doesn't hit like Hearns but Ali didn't hit like Leonard)
Great comparison.
Nonetheless, I'm bored of Fury already, and have (like many), been bored of Klitch forever. Let's just get on with Joseph Parker running amok and be done with it.
The only thing more hilarious than the question of Fury v Ali, is the idiots responding who think he's serious.
How on earth did this generate any serious discussion? Come on, people.
Fury might beat a current day Ali, possibly.
Who cares anyway?
I absolutely cannot believe the crap that's being spouted about Fury in this thread. Someone above referred to him as "weirdly fast and technical". Seriously? Is that what people got out of Fury's erratic movements and pillow jab against an old, statue of a man? Although I do agree other part of what was said - styles make fights.
Two different generations, two different boxing worlds, it's apples and oranges.
But please, people, sound bites don't make legendary fighters.
