There are 2 canadians, both at 168 I believe, who are gonna make some noise. There names are Lucien Bute and Jean Pascal. Also, I don`t know if Demetrius Hopkins would still be considered a prospect. I guess more of a contender now.
this being Hopkins last fight he doesnt really have a bright future. But Tarver on the other hand still thinks he has pound for pound greatness ahead in the future. So after Hopkins wins this fight he can go into his retirement as the greatest Middleweight of all time and enjoy the fruits of his labor while Tarver has to go a whole nother path.......and Tarver will lose trust me.
I`m a big Hopkins fan and I hope he can do it. It would really cement his legacy. But he isn`t the greatest middleweight of all time. Top 4 or 5 maybe but #1 has to be Sugar Ray Robinson.
Sucks for Him I think he will be going out with 3 straight losses even tho I don't consider his first fight with Taylor a loss. :)
I agree with the fact that his 1st fight with Taylor he won. I`ve watched it 3 times now and there is no way he lost that fight. I really really hope he beats Tarver `cause I hate that mutherfucker...but I just don`t see it happenin`. But that`s OK `cause left hook Lacy will take care of him real quick when he moves up to 175.
Ray Robinson beat a bunch of nobodies
The list is so big I wont even start.
Dude...you have no fucking idea what your talking about. Just to name a few, Jake Lamotta, Carmen Basillio, Gene Fulmer, Kid Galivan, Randy Turpin, ALL WORLD CHAMPIONS....and he beat them all. You wanna compare Tito to Ray Robinson. How did Tito do at Middleweight against B-Hop and Winky? All Ray Robinson did was hold the middleweight title on 5 different occasions.
If i`m not mistaken almost all of Robinsons losses(at least a dozen) were after his 40th birthday(he fought till he was 44) He was fighting guys 20 years younger than him on short notice because he blew all his money. And, he only ever lost once as a welterweight. That was to Lamotta, who he then beat the next 5 times they fought.
And I'm with you man. I swear half these people don't realize what was going on in the WW division in the 90's. Tito was destroying people.
In the 90`s...I absoloutley agree with you. But the question is best welterweight EVER. Sugar Ray Robinson. End of discussion.
This is another great post....and props for mentioning the ones who should have been in this discussion; but weren't. Guess there's no need bringing up Walker and the rest, since Tito would have "destroyed" them.
In case you didn`t know, the Walker we are refering to is Sugar Ray Robinson. Thats his birth name. And no, Tito would not have destroyed him. Not even close
U musta be real dumb not to understand sarcasm, and u might have not read my previous posts claiming that Robinson would beat any welter in history.
sorry man...didn`t see your first post.
I dont think that is the case Dogg....we can go on forever about this old school new school stuff on who would beat who and why...thats all we got man. The old school always gets the upper on the new schoolers..these new school fighters are doing shit that old schoolers can old dream about...the boxing skills for one..old school fighters didnt do much boxing..they brawled..not all but most did..these guy today are doing it all..boxing, brawling, kicking, etc. as for the level of comp face..everyone was go back in the day nodoubt, but today a 1-19 guy can beat a 40-0 guy..hell they champs make it evident.
I hate to kee going back and forth on this...but you`re sayinh Sugar Ray Robinson had no boxing skills? Man watch some tape. He was VERY skilled, in any era.
Never been lucky enough to myself. A buddy of mine met B-Hop at an airport and talked to him for a few. Apparently a super cool guy and easy to talk to.
There are much worse PPV fights. If Rahmam-Maskaev deserves to be on PPV then Floyd-Spinks deserves it. If you're going to boycott anything you should boycott all PPV.
well put. Spinks/Mayweather should be WAY more entertaining than the fight this weekend.
I remember as a kid watching Ray Mancini fight on a saturday afternoon on ABC wide world of sports. Don`t know who against, but he won. Also around the same time I remember wathing Pryor vs Arguello with my uncle when I was just a little kid.
Would be a good matchup. I`m a Spinks fan so I gotta go with the Next Generation. I think his handspeed and southpaw style may be too much for forrest. Would probably be a close fight though.
He`s way better off at Cruiserweight. He`d probably do alright against O`Neill Bell. I actually gained some respect for Byrd after watching the Wlad fight. At least he went out as a fighting champion, he`s just physically not big enough to fight Wlad or the bigger heavyweights.
Wouldn`t you say he`s been shot since the Buster Douglas fight, or at least since the first Holyfeild fight and that was 10 years ago. It`s been a while since Iron Mike has been a legit contender.
The old cliche is styles make fights. And Margarito`s style is perfect to get his ass handed to him by Floyd. I really don`t even like PBF but anyone with that much hand speed and that much boxing ability would KILL Margarito, who not to take anything away from him, is basically a one dimensional fighter. Spinks could at least box well enough to make it interesting for a few rounds, like Judah did. If Floyd wants to move to 154, I`d rather see Winky come down from 160 and shut Floyd the fuck up.Then Spinks could take on Margarito and the winner could fight the winner of Floyd and Winky. Nothin`like wishful thinkin.
Internationally 34 is the age lmit for amateur boxing(I think). So as far as competing, I would say yeah your too old. But you could still join your local club for the workout part of it. You would still learn the basics of boxing and maybe you would get to do some sparring.
First off calling Taylor a future hall of famer is kind of premature don`t ya think. Two close decisions against a 40 year old Hopkins(NO way he won the 1st fight) and a conroversial draw against Winky doesn`t mean a trip to the hall of fame. I don`t think he`s overrated though. He`s good and going to be REALLY good. I gotta go with Margarito as far as overrated. Floyd would walk through him like he did Gatti. I also said for the last couple of years that Lacy(who I Love) and Tarver(who I hate) were overrated, and Calzhage and B- Hop proved me right.
My 2 all time favorites are:
1.Sugar Ray Robinson--Plain and simple, the best ever. I love watching his old fights. Fought the best of his era and beat them all.
2.Bernard Hopkins--Didn`t always have the exciting fights but was the best at 160 since Hagler. Plus he destroyed Tarver, who I despise.
Current favorites are
1. Eric Morales--Love his heart and fearlessness. True Warrior
2. Arturo Gatti--Same as El Terrrible. Plus he`s Canadian.
3.Cory Spinks--Like his slick southpaw style. Plus, even after all he`s done he doesn`t get respect like he should. I think he`s under rated
4.Oscar DeLaHoya--He`s one of the few good things about the sport, as far as the public is concerned. Plus he`s a great fighter. Boxing needs the golden boy more than he needs boxing.
5.Jermain Taylor--Seems to have a lot of class and is willing to fight anyone. Plus he`s only gonna get better.
