Whats up everyone. I'm new to the boards, wondering who you guys thought the best Welterweight Was Ever?
My pick is Felix "Tito" Trinidad. I don't think he gets the respect he deserves, shadowed by the gleam of Leonard & Del La Hoya.
man tell me more about this autobiography, I read parts of some boxing books in the local bookstore, but I have never seen the sugar auto.
naw playa i dont have it...your boy said that his friend gave him a bootleg copy...he could tell me from where tho...it will surface one day if its out there...
Well, since according to this thread Hagler is welter
I think Floyd will take him out
I dont know I think floyd's ko power and relentless aggression are really awesome but a late version of Hagler would dance rings around pretty boy floyd
Oooooohh....Im still looking for his auto-bio...blockhead told me it was a bootleg out there somewhere...damn...old sugar ray.....ill give you karma homie...you on top of your game...

walker smith jr. = sugar ray robinson
I think he took the name ray robinson cos he was too young to fight at some amateur tournament and just got someone else name and ID

In case you didn`t know, the Walker we are refering to is Sugar Ray Robinson. Thats his birth name. And no, Tito would not have destroyed him. Not even close
Dude, have you never heard of Micky Walker?
I dont think oscar is great, I just think he beat tito in that fight, among the reasons the fact that part of those flurries were landing. what was tito landing?
by the way when you are in with a big puncher, you don't run cos you are scared, you run to win.
you are entitled to your own opinion about the outcome of a rematch between the two, I dont care about it, they are both past it and i don't care particularly about either.
Tito got his belt from blocker who won it while vacant from someone I guess. That's a paper belt. END OF THE STORY AND NOT TAKING AWAY ANYTHING FROM WHO TITO FOUGHT EXCEPT FOR:ù
Sweet Pea was past it and on coke (or in rehab) when he fought tito. When Oscar fought Pea, Pea was not at his peak, but definitely still had it.
If you are making this comparison as a serious argument I am happy to stop bothering posting answers to you.
what has oscar to do with the best welterweight ever? nothing, just like tito
as for robinson 19 losses... LOL 17 of them after his prime.
the other 2 being a decision loss to Jake La Motta (with a 16 pounds disadvantage) and the heat collapse while outboxing joey maxim, the light heavyweight champion of the world
yes you should not have brought robinson in the argument because you just made yourself look... uninformed.
who is leonard purley???????
Knowledge has spoken.
This is another great post....and props for mentioning the ones who should have been in this discussion; but weren't. Guess there's no need bringing up Walker and the rest, since Tito would have "destroyed" them.
thank you man

man it's irony again!!!
Hahaha. Sugar Ray Leonard tough guy, read it again.
And what do you think about Oscar always fighting people after Tito did?
I think he fought a few fighters after Tito did. so what?
To me none of them is top 5 at welter, I don't care who fought who and when. Oscar fought vargas after tito. so what? tito did not fight quartey. so what? they are both overrated to me.
OK for Leonard, less fights at welter, sure. so what? his opponents at 147 included hearns, benitez, duran. Look I don't want to get into the greatness of Leonard cos I hate his guts. Go back read any post from me, yogi, cple, or kdogg,
whatever of tito's opponent you are going to mention compare him to duran, benitez and hearns. but do it yourself. Again I don't like supporting leonard greatness because I don't like him.

Trinidad is my boy, but man, he'd be outclassed by the likes of Leonard, Hearns, and even Duran. Trinidad has not faced anyone of their caliber; not De La Hoya, Wright, or Hopkins. The opposite is true for the fab 4. Leonard, Hearns, Duran, and Hagler have all faced opponents as good as, if not better than, Trinidad. They all possessed the needed boxing skill and punching power to seriously trouble Tito. If he was outclassed and shut out by Hopkins and Wright, i'd be afraid of what Leonard, Duran, and especially Hearns would do. And this is coming from a big fan of Felix.
As for the main discussion of greatest welterweight of all-time, i'd have to go with Sugar Ray Robinson. Sure, he might be slightly overrated in the sense that he wasn't invincible as people like to perceive. He did have some trouble with taller fighters and was slightly susceptible to a quick right cross. However, all in all, he was the best the 147 pound division has seen and i wouldn't bet against him in any bout at welterweight. He had the skill, dominance, and opposition to prove it.
Has there been any mention of Joe Walcott, Mickey Walker, Kid Gavilan? I always thought that Napoles was slightly underrated too. And you can't have a welterweight discussion without Henry Armstrong. Luis Rodriguez is often forgotten as well.
