I'm currently reading an awesome book called "The Five Familes", which is a history of the Italian Mafia in NYC. They talk about the mafia's influence on boxing in the 1940's, most notably Frankie Carbo, who was a boxing promoter and a mafia hitman for murder inc. It's not really known exactly how many fights he fixed, but his influence on boxing was HUGE. A lot of people know the famous story about Lamotta taking a dive so he could get a legit shot at the title. They do mention in the book that Sugar Ray Robinson was such a huge draw and moneymaker that he could be uncooperative with the mafia and not be touched. By all accounts he never worked with Carbo. I just found it very interesting and can't help but wonder if they still have an influence on the sport to this day.

If he indeed is going to fight Baldomir. I really like Cory Spinks and I think him and Mayweather would be a good fight. But now Floyd will be able to become the linear champ at welter and unify the title for the 1st time since Spinks had it. Personally I think he will destroy Baldomir similar to how he did Gatti. Then Spinks will beat Forrest and he and Floyd can fight in February.

When is it, this weekend? Next Weekend? Who cares. First off, I`ve always been a Roy fan. I`ve always defended him whenever anyone says he ducked this guy or that guy. He`s the greatest fighter of my generation, in my opinion. But come on. Prince whatever his fuckin name is in Boise? Fuckin Boise? To me Roy is like a once great rock n roll band, who used to have platinum records and play stadiums, now playing clubs in front of 200 people. The worst thing is, Roy actually doesn`t even realize it. He thinks he`s still THE MAN. He hasn`t been THE MAN for a few years now.

I`m just wondering because whenever Cory fights you never see Leon there, you always see his uncle Micheal. I remeber seeing a story about Leon a few years ago on ESPN that chronicled his fall from grace. Seems to me he was broke and working as a janitor somewhere.

I`ve never seen him fight, so I don`t know. His record of 22-0-1 is obviously very impressive but he hasn`t fought any names that I recognize. Plus he only has 5 ko`s. But I`m a fan of his uncle/promoter so I can`t help but cheer for him. Hopefully he won`t dissapoint his hometown fans tonight in Phiily.

Where can I watch it. It`s on Fox sports, but they don`t usually show fights live do they? Plus they don`t mention it on their website. Anyone know if it will be shown live tonight.

Just curious...It`s been a while since he lost to Judah. I haven`t heard a thing about him. He`s only in his mid to late 20`s so I can`t imagine he retired, even though he got totally embarassed in his hometown.

Can anyone name any good Indian boxers? I am 50% native and for the life of me I can`t think of any. The only guy I can think of is the guy(Wayne Martel?) who fought Judah a couple years ago at MSG and got knocked down like 5 times in the 1st round. Someone told me Joe Louis was part native, and to be honest he kind of looks like he could be. But I`ve read things about Joe louis`life and never heard that mentioned.

I know Audley Harrison and Paolo Vidoz were both 30 when they turned pro. `Matt Skelton was 34 or 35 and has had a good career. Ron Lyle was one of the best heavyweights of the 70`s and he was over 30 when he turned pro. Can you think of anyone else?

Man I`ve never seen a boxer or any athlete for that matter with fans as obsessed Pac man fans. Don`t get me wrong, I think he`s great too, he`s #2 on my p4p list(Behind only Pretty Boy Floyd) but holy fuck, you guys would jump off a building if he told you to. You`re like the fuckin`Manson family and he`s Charlie.
