He was a former MW champion.
He did pursue Evander in 1998 though. Evander's former attorney, Jim Thomas, has confirmed that. Roy took his advisor to meet Evander and Thomas at a restaurant in Atlanta. Thomas states that Evander respectfully turned down Roy's proposal, as he thought he was in a no-win position at the time.
In 2003 after the Ruiz fight, Roy's advisor, Murad Muhammad, met with Thomas and Don King to try and make a fight. But King and Murad got too greedy, and King wouldn't pay Evander money which was owed to him from a previous fight. Evander was so angry, he told Thomas to make the Toney fight instead, even though there was no title at stake and the guarantee was for a lesser amount.
Do yourself and all of us a favor and stop talking. You sound like a troll and unrealistic person. Roy couldn't even handle punches from fighters in his own weight classes. How the hell would he have done so against BEASTS like Tyson and Holyfield???? Go sit down, moron.
No, no, and NO!
No, my point is that if you are going up you should fight one of the best. When Wilfred, Pernell, Oscar, Floyd, Holyfield, Toney, Ward, Pac, and now Crawford went up they fought the best. Fighting a Mike Tyson or Holyfield would've done wonders for Roy. He possibly could've won.
He didn't have a chance in hell, man. It is disrespectful to even suggest, honestly. Roy CANNOT take a punch. This is what we didn't know back in his prime when he was fighting taxi drivers and cops. He is not stupid and that's why he never moved up and fought either one of those guys.
SRL all day...
SRL was. As proven over the course of his incredible career. He ducked NOONE! Floyd's insecurities as a man, hurt his career as a fighter. He was really doubting his own abilities by not taking certain fights and by not giving Manny his much deserved rematch. He turned down Winky Wright, Paul Williams, Vernon Forrest, Margarito, the Oscar rematch, the Cotto rematch, and the Pacquiao rematch. When a fighter does that with BIG money on the table, it tells you they are not sure they can either WIN or WIN again.
In conclusion, SRL would've KO'ed Floyd and MOST welterweights who came after him. He is arguably the greatest of all-time. His losses to Norris and Camacho happened, only because he was OLD. Period. He would've KO'ed them both in his prime.
PS. Manny's win over Thurman recently, puts him in my top 5 fighter's of all-time. Floyd isn't even top 20. Don't "@" me either. He did it to himself.
EXACTLY! THere's a CHance OSCAR wouLd Have deFeaTed MayweaTHer In a remaTch 2. THaT's WHY MayweaTHer didn'T wanna accepT THe remaTch . 20miLLion? and He Turned IT DOWN? Go Figure! WHo Do U guys Have In THe coTTo/Pac FiGHT? I goT coTTo By KnocKouT.

Absolutely not.
Absolutely not. Manny was the number 1 P4P fighter at the time Floyd accused him of juicing. There is something called "pride" that all of us humans have. Floyd's first mistake was accusing someone of something without any obvious proof in their performances. It showed his ignorance. He thinks he's smarter than what he is and that has always been his problem. How are going to bully someone like Manny? Or Roberto Duran? SRL? Sweet Pea? Or Cotto? Or Oscar? Get me? YOU DON'T! They all would've did what Manny did in that situation. Manny basically told Floyd to kiss his foreign ass and I don't blame him. How are you going to be the commission, the accountant, the promoter, and the fighter all at the same time? Where in the history of boxing has this diva-like behavior ever occurred with a so called world class fighter??? Meanwhile, Manny remained humble and exposed Floyd for what he is through silence and class. Last time I checked, Manny is picking up steam and on the verge of another Super Fight next year against somebody. I don't know who it is, but he's regained his spot in the sport despite the HATER(S).
He never did........
He never refused testing in the first place. He asked for a cut-off date. Do your research and stop trying to be smart by arguing "moot" points. Manny will fight anybody. His track record speaks for itself. Can you say the same about Floyd? My point exactly. Was it Manny that accused Floyd of anything to avoid a fight? Was it Manny that says you cannot wear a certain brand glove because you can punch? Is it Manny that claims to be TBE? Was it Manny that offered Floyd 40million? Take it or leave it? Huh? I am killing you all with FACTS and you hate it! I am done with this thread, man. Enjoy Floyd's BS rematch this weekend.
First of all........
First of all, my name is GOD-FR33. I am a professional musician and the only GOD-FR33. It's not me that won't let the Roidquez KO go. It's the other fanboys who make GIFS of it and act immature about that fight. Any logical fan or person knows that Manny has always had what he has right now. Speed, power, stamina, fast feet, and a muscular build. He has always stopped guys. He's never Ko'ed a fighter bigger than himself. What he does is outwork his opponents with angles, violence, and sheer will.
With Roidquez. His entire physique changed damn near in a year and a half. A fighter doesn't have that kind of time to train like a full-fledged body builder UNLESS they are on something. It's the only way to gain that type of mass. Look at Roidquez's arms, back, and traps. He's ****ing HUGE!!!!!!!!!! He's top heavy with little tiny legs. He now possesses one punch KO power. That wasn't the case before. He's faster than he's ever been. He was throwing 8-9 punch combos against Alvarado like he was 20 years old. He knocked him from one side of the ring, to the other and almost out of the ring. Now how the **** did he do that to a much bigger man????????? You morons didn't start the Manny rumors until Floyd punk ass was scared to fight him. He tried to cloud Manny's accomplishments when he had no proof. I am about fairness and I love the sport of boxing too much to not address bull**** when I see it. Juan is a ****ing cheater in my book, and many others. PERIOD.
exactly.........
Exactly this. Chavez is HUGE and knows how to fight. He's a great inside fighter and a great body puncher. How can you count him out against either GGG or Froch is beyond me. He just may KO GGG. Can GGG take his pressure and style is the question, not the other way around. He's never faced a fighter so big and as far as Froch goes, he was getting outboxed once again by that punk Groves. Chavez is an entirely different animal and Froch has had a lot of wars. Anytime a fighter is contemplating retirement, they don't want to fight anymore. Chavez will KO him if they ever fight.
Hahaha.................
That shows how much you know about boxing. Hahaha. Froch was getting outboxed once again by Groves B4 the KO. Groves is a punk, anyways. He has no heart or balls. Chavez Jr. is a whole different animal. He WILL retire Froch if they fight. We can do a winner takes all bet. I am tired of you so called fans disrespecting fighters like Canelo, Broner, and Chavez Jr. but praising lesser fighters because of personal opinion. Noone is KOing Chavez Jr. Not GGG, definitely not Froch slow ass! Chavez Jr. has a better chin too. I guess you want to deny that as well? Ey?
If he's smart............
If Jr. is smart, he'll take out Froch who is damaged goods at this point. Then he should bate GGG to come up to 168 for a Super fight. GGG has stated many times he can make 168 without a problem. Chavez Jr. should call him out on that after KOing Froch which he can do.
Whatever.....
Chavez is faster than Froch and as strong. Groves has no heart so if Froch Ko'ed him. Chavez would eventually do the same. There was nothing impressive about what Froch did against Groves. Groves shouldn't be a fighter. He has no heart. He reminds me of Victor Ortiz. Hahahaha!
Not exactly......
Not so fast. Floyd is 37yrs old and he looks it. Any young and primed fighter has a chance to defeat him at this point. Thurman would as well even though he's a bit inexperienced. You don't have to rough Floyd up to beat him. he can be outboxed by a fighter with fast hands, fast feet, and stamina.
Well...........
In a way it is. Why would you pick that fight in particular? Holyfield was OLD so it makes no sense. What was impressive about what Toney did? My point exactly. A better fight for Toney at Heavyweight that proved his skill was against Samuel Peters. Toney's intelligence and defense against a much larger opponent, in his prime and who could punch proved much more. Why take a shot ATG to use as an example. Think man, think!
You're in denial.............
You sir are in denial. You sound like a fan of Martinez to me. If so, fine BUT don't make excuses for him. Nobody made him sign to fight Cotto. Cotto said he didn't care what version of Sergio showed up and he meant it. Did you forget how arrogant and disrespectful Sergio was to Cotto prefight? How much trash he talked to Cotto and how much he was going to "give him a beating"? Furthermore, about Manny/Roidquez: Manny won the 3rd encounter because he outthrows and outlands Marquez, 2-3 to 1 every time. The third fight was a sparring match and Manny's objective was to outpoint him. He wasn't trying to KO him in that fight. Roidquez also blew any chances of winning by running the entire 12th round!!!!!! What veteran does that? WTF was he thinking? And we all know he was/is on roids right now. In the 4th fight, it was on FULL display. He was HUGE. He took KO punches from Manny and was still around. For the first time in 4 fights, he was the stronger guy in the ring. How do you explain that? People always referring to the perfectly timed counter, but what about the first knock down where Manny had his hands up and still went down? It was the unusual power behind his shots that night. He physically moved Manny with every shot. People that can't admit things are liars. How about the Alvarado fight? He knocked him all the way across the ring and almost out of it. MA is much bigger and supposedly stronger than Roidquez. All of a sudden this man can KO a middleweight and is 41 years old??? Okay.
Props to Canelo........
Props to Canelo for wanting to fight everyone. Boxing needs more fighters like this. Manny is a 140lb fighter who is special. He is so durable that he can fight all the way up to 150lb. Is it necessary though? Absolutely not. Manny is 35yrs old and a proven ATG still capable of fighting at the highest level. He said that after the Cheeto beat down, he was in bed for 3 days. He admitted to being too small for that weight class and vowed to never fight there again. I don't blame him. This goes back to my original point that Floyd is a full weight class bigger than Manny. It's a fact. Floyd isn't as little as people think and his fight night weights are a bit exaggerated by the networks.
Smh...
You idiots just will not go away! Here is yet another DUMB thread. How old are you????? Why didn't you say "prime" Ali moron!?!?!?!?!? Ali was OLD and suffering from early stages of Parkinson's disease when he fought Holmes. Smh. Prime Ali beats the hell out of James Tony. How about that? RETARD!!!!!!! #RIPALI
Hagler.......
Hagler is the greatest middleweight of all-time IMO. Toney was a great fighter but he was too fearless and arrogant for his own good at times. No version of Toney beats Hagler. Hagler reminded me of a construction worker who prepared a lunch for work every day and never forgot his hard hat. He was a hard fighter to beat or outwork. His power jab was a thing of beauty. I think a Monzon/Hagler fight would've been as good! Good fantasy fight here, though.
He's fair.........
Manny is a nice guy. It's as simple as that. He's a pretty fair guy also. I bet you CA can wear whatever gloves he wants come November. Why? Because Manny is a throwback fighter. He comes to get it, win, lose, or draw. Furthermore, when you grow up in poverty and come from nothing, a little goes a long way. He's worth $100million CASH right now. He could be worth about $300-$400million. Some people don't have to have ALL of the money. ALL of the girls. ALL of the attention. He lives a comfortable life that works for him. He resigned with Arum because he's guaranteed $20-$25million per fight plus live gate and PPV. Who else Is making that type of money per fight, besides Floyd? So, Manny isn't so stupid afterall. Besides, it is his rival whose career seems to be unraveling by the day. Sure, he makes more money than Manny, BUT who seems happier? We as Americans look at income differently than foreigners do. Look at Cotto also. A humble, respected father, husband, and fighter whose RICH but isn't breaking the bank. He's set for life. These guys are quiet but come fight night, they kick ass!
Smh..........
And he was throwing lots and lots of punches in bunches like never before. I was like WTF? He looked 20yrs old against MA. I was like I HOPE Manny doesn't fight this Cyborg again!!!!! LoL.
I concur.........
I concur. I was banned last week because I posted an article as to why Floyd shouldn't be calling himself, "TBE". Smh. Sounds like whoever runs the site is a Floyd fan. I've never been banned before. If you ban someone, you better have a legit reason in my book. All of the gay dudes on here getting off on each other and posting ****o like threads, but they don't get banned. **** this site. I'll continue to call things like I see them. Boxing Scene doesn't define me.
Yup.
The knock downs were the difference. Broner proved his medal in that fight and it made him a better fighter. He actually hurt Maidana bad at the end of the 11th round and in the 12th. Maidana said that Floyd isn't so much better than everyone else and if you compare Broner's performance against MM and Floyd's, MM is right.
Another stupid thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is yet another STUPID thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Evander was OLD when he fought Toney but won the first round after rocking Toney with a left hook. What do you think a prime Evander does to a fat Toney? Huh? That is a better question. You guys post the dumbest threads I swear but then claim how much you know about boxing. Smh.
Yet another stupid thread.......
This thread is stupid! You guys make fantasy fights out of anyone. Smh. It just doesn't make any sense sometimes BUT what has GR done to make you think he beats Manny??? I personally would like to see a rematch with Donaire. Donaire was a bit drained and it affected his performance that night. In a rematch, it may look different. If ND can knock him down, Manny can knock him out.
