Floyd is hard to be hit and he is tough. Chino would land more clean punches on Pac and make him suffer more. Pac could hurt Chino, but I see things this way: Maidana is a fighter whose level is just a step below Floyd's. He beats Pac IMO.
I don't know how reliable is this source. Argentinian press reported an $ 8 M purse for Chino, which could grow up to $ 10 M when you sum up the PPVs. Maidana team has made evident efforts to avoid giving exact information about the purse, as a PR strategy (because of the current economic troubles in the country) and this has been commented by the press.
Sergio is a smart and charismatic guy who built (mostly making appearances in TV shows) a name in Argentina (my country). It led to his successful (in ticket sales) Murray fight, but all this fired back because the public was disappointed with his performance...
After the Broner fight Chino started to become popular, but he is still not so well known as Sergio is. But there is a nice buzz surrounding The Moment. If he wins -and we expect him to do it- he will be by far the most popular fighter in this country.
Definitely.
But most Monzón fights were BIG events themselves. It happens that they were mostly in Europe. But his fights in Paris and Monaco, with all those princesses, famous actors and all were a circus I've hardly seen again...
How much did Canelo get for floyd? How in the world is Chino getting 8 million and he doesn't have much of a fan base in terms of casuals.
If NYT or WP reports something, you tend to trust them. I apply the same criteria for Argentinian press.
Official scorecards are a joke in this sport. Plus, as I said yesterday, they're entirely subjective - So I'm not going to bother debating scores for those fights with you.
I will say that Castillo II was nowhere near the blowout people like to pretend it was, though.
It's a blueprint to beat him if you have the stamina to execute it for the full 12 rounds which, admittedly, few do. But that becomes less of an issue now that he's showing signs of age.
Maidana is as crude a fighter as it gets and he had Floyd in fits on Saturday.
If you have a sledgehammer in each fist, can throw 900 punches in the fight, are willing to take risks, can corner a cheetah, be relentless, take punches when needed, don't get demoralized... then it may be a blueprint for you.
Another consequence deducted from the "Maidana Big Bum Theory of Boxing Universe".
As you may know, in Einstein's theory of relativity the speed o light is the only invariant physical phenomenon: always the same and equal to 300.000 km/sec.
The Big Bum Theory of Boxing Universe assumes that Chino's merits and skills are also invariant and always the same (near zero).
Consequences deducted:
-Broner is a bum.
-Floyd is aging.
-Peterson would beat Floyd.
-The WW division is now hotter than ever, with all those Top fighters: Pacquiao, Bradley, Porter, Thurman,,, (Chino is not among them)
Because I use another boxing paradigm, what I deducted from the Moment is that it proved better than any previous fight that Floyd is tough, tough, tough...
So forget Pacquiao can beat him: Floyd would keep wiping out any WW not named Chino Maidana.
He didn't receive a "hero's welcome". There was a lot of journalists and that's it. Mainstream media of all colors did a good job promoting the fight (and boxing itself). Get an idea: the fight (even starting Sunday at 1 AM) had 25 rating TV points (it was aired by public TV and cable network).
Chimo has just said two things:
1) He doesn't know if they can arrive in time to the September date. It could be 2015.
2) They want to invite Floyd to fight in Argentina.
Martinez is only the 3rd best MW from Argentina and i wouldn't be suprised if Jorge Castro could beat him so possibly 4th. Castro was like a poor mans Duran a good pressure fighter, very good in the inside with great power and a iron chin.
Roña Castro had a natural talent, but he was crude and didn't even care about it. This was his limit. After he KOd John David Jackson in pure Rocky Balboa style, he could have become a star, but came up short. I don't know who you would consider the 2nd Argentinian best MW. Maybe Juan Martillo Roldán? I think the prime Martínez would have beaten Castro and possibly also Roldán, although Martillo (The Hammer) hit too hard and could have KOd him in any moment.
Golovkin has simply still to prove that he can beat an elite fighter.
This move is a little inconvenience for Lucas training, but I think is good for Lucas's image, not only in the States but specially among the Argentinian casual fans, that hardly know what is happening in September 14th. I think it's OK.
A bit unlucky to not win the WBA vs Kotelnik, SD loss which could have easily gone his way,. after he beats Broner i guess he will be good enough.
I agree. Broner, for example, has won titles for a reason: he has enjoyed the easiest road. We still don't know if Maidana is or is not "good enough", but he has had to face many hard tests.
Can't imagine Cotto or Canelo fighting in BA, can you?
As an aside, you watch the Pumas this morning?
I think Cotto would come here. I really don't see BA environment is a big deal. I understand if the noisy crowd in the last Martínez fight was seen as intimidating, but it's just a soccer-type of crowd, very common here: drums, songs, nothing unusual. Plus I doubt Sergio could attract again such a crowd after his disappointing performance. Also the financial issues might be problematic. The government is going to lose the midterm elections in November and an overdue devaluation of the currency is expected by December or so, so for a while the tickets won't generate good revenues in dollars (but I don't know if this is very important comparing with TV revenues).
I'm not a big rugby fan and didn't watch the Pumas - All Blacks, but I know they played well, although they eventually lost 28-13.
You must not have read GB Olympic captain Tom Stalker's account:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/boxing/article-2319284/Martin-Murray-did-agaisnt-Sergio-Martinez--Thomas-Stalker.html
Haha... But eventually nothing happened... Anyway, what that story tells is not usual. I would think someone organized it to intimidate Murray.
Murray should have worn a Rolling Stone shirt at the press conference. I assure you that many of those aggressive guys are diehard Stones. Ask Mick Jagger or Keith.
I read a comment that said the HBO team only had seen such environment in a Joe Calzaghe fight.
Along with the Vélez Sarsfield Stadium, the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata, some minutes south of Buenos Aires, also had been considered for the Martínez - Murray fight. This stadium is smaller (36.000 people seated), but much more modern and safer. The rain, for example, wouldn't have been a problem. They opted instead for Vélez Sarsfield, but the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata is the best option. And if you need a smaller arena, then you have the Luna Park.

The Argentinian national press only partially support this information:
Clarín: "I want to fight in May next year. I'm recovering (from hand and knee injuries) faster than I expected. They mention many names, I want to fight everybody. I want my next fight again in Argentina".
Perfil: "April or May"... "Cotto or Canelo, we will see".
Durán didn't fight, but he was the ref of the exhibition bout Jorge Castro - Marcelo Domínguez.

Very good reading. I would add that only after the Firpo - Dempsey fight, because of the impact it had, boxing was legalized in Argentina. September 14th (when Firpo and Dempsey fought) is "Boxer Day" in Argentina.
Article and Firpo - Dempsey clip
Jack Dempsey visited Argentina in 1954. He was received by Firpo and decorated by the government.
Same dummies recycling the same joke...Floyd will ask for a CW...SMDH!!! Back to the topic. ..since everybody is d**k riding LM now, why hold his hand when it's time to move up? He's the one mentioning Floyd. Floyd went straight to 154 for the DLH fight...what you guys aren't taking into account is Floyds age...seems like you guys are ok with some one finally catching Floyd when he's close to 40...if you're the man at 140 & want to test the waters again the man at 147, go for it! He takes his loss then goes back down & finish kicking @$$ there.
... and he won by split decision. Matthysse couldn't expect something like that. He would have to win in devastating fashion or he would lose. That's why the weight advantage is so crucial in this case.
Cotto is next for $ergio. Mark my words.
This. The last info is that Sergio plans to fight Cotto. He will see then how his body reacts. If he is satisfied, he will have another fight (Floyd, Canelo, GGG ??). If not, he will retire.
Let's pretend you are Matthysse's advisor. He just beats Garcia abnd Floyd gets past Canelo. Now what would you tell your fighter to do if an offer to fight Mayweather comes? Who in their right ****ing mind would turn down their biggest payday ever against the #1 p4p. You can't get any bigger than that and the longer he waits the riskier it becomes. Who knows what happens in between the next fight maybe Mayweather loses. Why risk the biggest payday of your life for the unknown.
Problem is your trying to make a bigger fight and I understand, but really $'s run boxing and if this fight doesn't happen following Sep 14th it will because Mayweather doesn't want it for whatever reason.
Yes, if the offer is there, he has to accept it. What I say is that in the long run it won't likely be the best for him.
I think Floyd is reluctant because it's his 5th weight class. That's a big difference between the two situations. Honestly, I think Lucas would be fine fighting Floyd next but I have no problem with him having a fight or two in between. Lucas could fight in January at 147 and be ready for a fight in May. If Floyd doesn't fight Matthysse in May then who's next?
Maybe Canelo if the upcoming fight is not easy or Maidana if he KOs Broner. I wouldn't dismiss very quickly these possibilities.
I'm not OK with this right now. Floyd is reluctant to move up at 154 for a reason. The same is valid for Lucas moving up at 147. I think is better for Lucas to establish himself as a great champ at 140 and move up later. A big payday against Floyd at the wrong time (which would be right now) could mean less money for Matthysse in the long run. Anyway the outcome of the Floyd - Canelo bout will likely open the door for a rematch.
Some days ago an Argentinian newspaper reported the Maidana - Haymon deal and said that on November 11th night the fights could be: Broner - Maidana, Thurman - Guerrero and Soto-Karass - Malignaggi.
