I think Ward will frustrate Kovalev to the UD 8-4 or 9-3, imo
I think so too. You can never count out Kovalev's puncher chance, but Ward is leagues above him in the skills department.
Ward fanboy alert.
Now, come on, bro, don't pull that card on me. I'm not a fanboy. I like Kovalev as a fighter, but I'm saying things as I see them. To me, Ward simply looks too good. But if Kovalev wins, I will give Kovalev mad respect and easily consider him P4P number 1 in the world.
No matter who wins, I hope the winner fights Stevenson. Would be great.
And another thing: How do you expect people to react at first, according to the outcome?
If Ward wins by decision, people will accept it, like they did with Froch and Kessler, but they will always make sure to note that Ward is a dirty boxer with no fans.
If Ward wins by KO, even Kovalev's own fans will start saying that Kovalev was just overrated all along.
If Kovalev wins, no matter how, people will say that this was "the first time Ward fought a good opponent".
My thoughts on Ward-Kovalev
The fight is so close now and I felt that it was about time that I joined this message board, after a long period of lurking from the sidelines. This fight is certainly worth talking about.
Size-wise, Ward and Kovalev are the same. Same height, same reach, same weight.
Kovalev got some skill issues, which we have seen in a lot of his recent fights. He was falling over his own legs while chasing Pascal, he was unable to stop a completely shot grandpa Hopkins and his perfomance against Chilemba was... well, not exactly something to brag about.
Kovalev packs a serious punch, though, which makes up for his limited skills. He could stop Ward with just one well-placed right hand and he punches harder than anyone Ward has ever faced before. There is a reason why Kovalev is undefeated.
Ward, on the other hand, is not a monstrous puncher. His punching power is simply weak compared to Kovalev's. His skills are fair superior to Kovalev's, though. He has not lost a match since he was 12, he won gold in the Olympics, he is undefeated through 30 fights and he cleaned out his division. Ward can be a bit dirty at times, but he is extremely fast and extremely skilled.
How do I think this fight will go? I expect Ward to neutralize Kovalev's offense, counter him so much that he feels unsure to attack. Ward's punches are weak, but we have seen his opponents get shocked from their pure accuracy before. I think Ward will win by decision, due to the massive difference in speed and skill level.
However, Ward looks like he has slowed down a bit since the Super Six tournament. I got a bad feeling that Kovalev just might catch him with some wild surprise in the later rounds. However, it's all up to a puncher's chance. If Kovalev doesn't land the perfect punch, Ward will win and that's the outcome I lean towards. I simply don't think that Ward's speed has been reduced enough for Kovalev to beat him yet.
But I would not be sad if Kovalev won. Both men deserve massive respect for giving us this great and exciting P4P battle. This is the stuff history is made of, in which even the loser is a winner, just for having made the event a reality. Come on, none of us remembers Joe Frazier as a loser because of his epic battles with Muhammad Ali.
These guys are both very talented and it may very well be close. People are really passionate about Loma and are going to go ape shyt if he loses a remotely close fight (they still freak if you mention the name "Salido").
I hope it's definitive. I like them both equally and just want to see a great fight, and I hope the fans don't sour it with their immaturity.
Yeah, look when Salido schooled Lomachenko. They have been in denial ever since. Now, if a BLACK man beats Lomachenko, especially after Ward has just defeated Kovalev and Crawford defeated Postol... Their white pride wouldn't be able to take it. It will cause mass suicide if Golovin loses to Jacobs.
In this fight Loma is more the "boxer" than Walters. If you replace Ward with Loma and Kov with Walters, I doubt that Freedom, Red cyclone, Maxi and others would make a ton of threads and posts talking about corruption, conspiracies, etc. etc.
Yeah, if Lomachenko wins a close fight, NO white member of this board will start saying "Walters got robbed!", lol, it's so typical and so obvious and even if they keep denying, their denial only makes them look more stupid.
Another hilarious scenario is if Lomachenko gets a close decision that 70% of the boxing media thinks he lost, and all the people screaming about Ward don't say sh*t about it.
This would not surprise me at all, to be honest. If Loma wins, no one will cry about it, even if the win is controversial.
Who doesn't remember the massive whining when Pacquiao got robbed against Bradley, a black man? And who doesn't remember the lack of care when Dirrell, a black man, got robbed against Froch, a white man?
another sh1tty race bait thread.on the other hand if lomachenko wins in dominant fashion you'll go in to b1tch mode and disappear.
If Loma wins, fair and square, then I will congratulate him. Just like I would have congratulated Kovalev if he had managed to beat Ward, which he obviously wasn't capable of doing.
Another fan boy post. I'm not sure who's worse the Kov fans who can't deal with the L or the Ward fans who are insecure that he might not have won.
What did I write that was wrong?
Jackson said he's in decline but I don't buy into it, Kovalev lost to a peak Dre.
Dude, everyone knew that Ward was past it, even before the fight. That he managed to win after that long pause from the sport is just amazing.
His reflexes and speed are not what they used to be.
The even smaller man and weaker Andre Ward would get clipped and get crushed by the even bigger, heavier, stronger, hungrier, and even bigger Kovalev. When Ward was in his prime at 2011 he scraped past Froch when Kovalev was in his Prime in 2011 he killed a man in the ring.
If prime Ward could beat Froch, then why couldn't a prime Ward also beat Kovalev? Froch DOES have a better resume than Kovalev, although Kovalev's certainly isn't bad.
2 professional fighters with skills, great chess match, ward was more busted up, I think he broke kovs nose but the majority of his damage was to the body, kovs was to the face
Yeah, Ward's damage dealt to the body should not be ignored.
Good video, bro :boxing:
Notice how Ward is talking like a cool-headed kid on the way to his exam, where as Kovalev seems to have taken so many punches that he forgot how to speak English, haha.
To be honest, though, their injuries seem kinda similiar after one wipes away Kovalev's blood.
IS Prime Froch isn't even a **** on sole of Kovalev's shoes and you are comparing him? Get that **** out of here!
Froch beat Kessler, Abraham, Pascal, etc., Kovalev's best wins are a past it Pascal and a Hopkins fossil.
...I never placed a bet..... I never placed it at all..
AND IF I DID, Kovalev won, let's be real. I aint paying ****.
You're so white that your post blind my eyes. Go play World of Warcraft, at least you will see no black people dominating white people there.
Now I know your trolling. Ward was the one wearing the massive sun glasses post fight.
Ward was not the one with constantly bleeding eyes, a bleeding nose, a bleeding mouth and who started to stick his head out between the ropes after getting shook, lol.
Kovalev took more damage than Ward during that fight. There is a reason why Kovalev held back his punches in the second half.
Come on, dude, it looked like his face had been through a blender. I got worried about Kovalev's safety at times and I even started suspecting that Ward could end up stopping him.
Ward did not win that fight and he didn't think so either. Just look at his reaction when they gave it to him!
American fighter, American judges, American home cooking!
Dude. Ward won. And everyone could see it, unless they had a problem with Ward.
Ward destroyed Kovalev's face, there was blood everywhere.
so now these b1tches are making excuses for ward saying he was old and past time.hahahaha they know ward lost.
Excuses? We don't need excuses. Ward won the fight. We are just wondering how much easier it would be for Ward if he was still in his prime.
We really don't need this....
Yeah, that's probably true. It can cause arguments and it was stupid of me. I hope a moderator deletes this thread and that people doesn't cause drama until then...
