War Cotto! ! ! :headbang:
lol! That's the spirit bro! :boxing: :firedevil
Nice video, cant wait for Gorilla to post his King Cotto vs Martinez promo his work is incredible! War Cotto!
Gonna laugh when the Argentinean cyclist stops Quitto.
Its not going to happen. Cotto's abilities are severely understated in this board.
I know is not going to be an easy fight, but Cotto will win this.
i dont see why not. cotto vs martinez sounds like a good fight to me. cotto will fight anybody, he fought margarito when none of the other elite fighters wanted to. hes been in with guys like mosley mayweather pacman etc, he is a 3 weight world champ and i see nothing wrong with him stepping up to fight the champ.
Cotto is a beast. Ill give him that. He will fight anyone and his resume is there to prove it.
I noticed that Miguel Cotto gets hated quite a bit on this message board but has some true 'hardcore" fans that seem to follow him not matter what. Personally, I think that he is GREAT for boxing, has an outstanding resume and if you add his losses vs future ATG Floyd and Pac, his resume is WAY up there with some true ATGs.
He gets my respects!
I have always felt some Puerto Rican fans hold a grudge or have a complex towards the Mexican boxers/fans. This thread proves it, who would make such a thread when the answer is clear.. All I have to say is, don't feel a type of way. Both regions have great boxers and will continue for years to come.
Regardless, Cuba produces the best boxers from Latin America.
I do not belive that the OP's intent with this thread was to establish who is better or who's style dominates, etc.
What I believe his intent was that based on territorial size, population, etc. Puerto Rico holds his own when compared (for example in this case) Mexico.
Area: PR (3515m2) is less than 1/2% (.46%) the size of MX (761,600m2)
Population: PR 3.6M vs 127.1M; again PR has 2.8% the population of Mexico.
Now, lets take this to boxing.
According to Wikipedia (I know, but it not may be the most accurate, but its the easiest):
PR: PR 69 WC vs MX 204WC; So far PR has 33.8% the number of MX World Champions.
But on PR vs MX for Championship fights PR leads Mexico by 13.7% (54 vs 44)
You can/may come up with your own theory, etc. I given you the raw data.
He makes money off of his hype. Someone like Ward would put a stop to that.
I would have to agree with this. His fans will overhype him just like any other fanbase but, wow, some of the comments and or claims are beyond crazy.
IMHO Ward beats GGG.
You think that they would be this far into the negotiations if that was not taken care off?
That is just a minute detail and Im sure it has been satisfied.
Yep
Too much money on the table for a small matter like that to be a major obstacle imo
Correct. There is too much $$ on the line for something like GGG having anything to do with the negotiations.
I think that GGG fans are out reaching a bit too far with some of the stuff that they will post and I do like GGG boxing style.
They should be more focused on what is GGG is going to do with Ward, and as a boxing fan I believe that Ward beats him clearly.
probably floyd's most entertaining/competitive fight in ages. after a while you get tired of him taking everyone to school it's nice when it seems like some guys he fights have a pulse. of course, it's not his fault he's that much better than everyone else.
This is correct. This was a great fight and I truly enjoyed it. I scored this fight 116/112 for Floyd. I loved the close in action on Cotto's game plan and I loved how Floyd utilized all his defensive techniques and mastery to avoid Cotto's attack.
For me it was a technical display of inside offensive and defensive boxing. Well done by FMJr. and Cotto.
I'll love to see a rematch if and only if Cotto defeats Martinez.
The irony my friend. Cotto is King. Win or lose, Cotto is King!
When Miguel beats Sergio only the haters Floyd dicck riders will not want him to fight Floyd.
Miguel had a great showing against what is the #1 P4P fighter in the world. Floyd landed 29% of his total punch count on Miguel, where he LANDED 46% in his PREVIOUS nine (9) fights! WTF? You kidding me? It means that Floyd was unable to land at will like usually does and reflects that Miguel did something right defensively.
I'm not saying that Cotto won in any way or form, but the fight was much, much more competitive than what his haters and bias Floyd fanatics like to admit.
Cotto's rounds 11-12 were his worse defensibly where Floyd scored his best offensive output. Miguel himself had said that he was out of gas after the 9th round and the punch stats support that.
In retrospect and looking right after the Cotto fight, Floyd landed a massive 53% of this punch output on Canelo, a huge 24% difference. The only difference is that Alvarez is idolized and overly hyped by his fans/Golden Boy and the judges gave him "additional support" with the scoring (lol!), and Miguel did not Alvarez did.
Let me clarify that I'm not a punch stats guy but I do look at them to get an idea of specific outputs by different boxers and expand my POV.
Now, in all reality if SHO Box wanted to sell us a rematch I would much rather see Miguel fight Floyd once again specially with the newly more offensive minded/better conditioned Cotto. Not like what the hypetrain fans of Alvarez were posting a few days ago about Alvarez deserving a rematch and what no. They are :crackhead 's smoking the good chit!
Well put and valid points. Ill have to agree.
...but Alvarez deserves a rematch? Does he? Specially after beating on Angulo....? But Miguel after he stops Sergio will not? GTFO here with that BS.
The WORSE version imaginable of Sergio Martinez is 1000000000000000000 times better than Angulo. Any version of Sergio that Cotto beats is > X 100 Trillion times anything that Canelo has in his current resume, yet, he got a chance to fight Floyd? lol!
Wow. Green K.
Floyd definitely struggled with Cotto. He thought Cotto was going to be a walk in the park, I enjoyed Cotto bullying Floyd all night. Good fight
Green K bro! You avatar is P4P material!!!
Yes, very much P4P jejejeje!!
I'm not sure if there is an underlined current of hate for Miguel or what but I don't see a problem with him getting a shot at either Floyd, Canelo, or GGG. Here's how I see it.... Under Roach's guidance it appears that Cotto isn't reinvented just that he is back to what made him such an offensive force when he first jumped in to the championship rankings. I also believe that he has gotten a lot of his confidence back and that alone can some times make the difference between what appears to be a faded champ and a rejuvenated one.
If Floyd and Cotto step in the ring a second time for Cotto's MW title then I have no problem with a rematch. The fight remains relevant as long as Cotto holds the Lineal title. Facts are Facts, if Mayweather wants to further cement his legacy and if Cotto is such an easy win then Floyd should jump at the chance just like Cotto did against Martinez.
A gold miner digs for gold, a boxer fights for championship belts its an easy decision for him and a easy boost to his legacy so I wouldn't be surprised if Floyd jumped at the chance.
This was the version of Cotto we were all dying to see Floyd fight over 5 years ago. It made for an interesting go round the first time. I wouldn't mind seeing Floyd vs. Cotto 2. It wasn't a massacre in the first fight, and Cotto actually did ok. With the few changes I would like to see if Cotto could make it more competitive.
Its not the worst fight that could be made for these two pugilistic Champions, Floyd's had some wars against some not so great opposition so I'm sorry if it makes a Cotto vs. May 2 appear to be lucrative for both fighters.
Very interesting comments. Completely agree with you, specially the bold Red.
Really good fight.
I have not decided as of yet but if Mares comes really conditioned and can bring effective pressure for 12, I got him by decision if not, he losses.
I'm ok with Cotto fighting Canelo, Floyd or GGG. They are all good fights. I think that Miguel Cotto beats Canelo by UD or late stoppage and has a very realistic/legitimate chance of beating Floyd this time around. Vs GGG it will be a very difficult fight for Cotto, due to GGG size and really good foot work and being able to cut the ring on Cotto, but hey, we know Cotto can box as well as brawl so who knows.
