Groves sat before an IBF hearing in New Jersey last week to discuss the early stoppage that occurred in his fight against Carl Froch in November last year.
Groves has appealed on the grounds of bias from the referee, and seeing as it was an IBF mandatory, he could be successful should they uphold his appeal.
Article below:
The controversial manner in which their previous super-middleweight title fight ended meant that a re-match was always going to be on the cards, it just, s they say, needed all the ends tying together.
Well the snippets I previously mentioned, infer that although moves are afoot a little thing called time might prove to be the crucial factor.
Eddie Hearn, discussing the road ahead with regards to getting the two combatants in the ring has been quoted, in the media, as having remarked about the difficult situation,
“Carl’s not sure about it.”
“The Groves fight is the biggest financially, but I don’t think Carl feels he needs it. The public wants it but as far as he’s concerned he has beaten Groves.”
“I’ll put the options on the table and the fighter generally chooses the fight which is the biggest financially. I think deep down Carl will want to do a job on George Groves before he retires because he doesn’t like him at all. The animosity is genuine.”
“We’re already talking to venues about doing it at the end of May before the World Cup, but if it drags on in the negotiation process, George will look at other options.”
It seems to be that getting what the public want, what the public deserve and something that’ll decree who is the better of the two men, is down to financial matters rather than anything else. Hopefully, common sense will prevail and the nation will get what it deserves!

However we variously feel the first bout should be read, I think we all agree that a rematch is a fight we all want to see. Whether it's to see Groves get a 'fair' shot at being Champion, or Froch to show that Groves just couldn't cut it over the distance, there ain't many (especially in the UK) who don't want this fight to happen.
If they can make it a big UK stadium fight to maximise the gate, it won't fall far short of a US fight in terms of revenue (and may exceed it) - I think it's fairly likely to happen - certainly Froch is under no obligation, but I also don't see many fights which would bring him more money - Chavez Jr perhaps (though I don't see that happening), Ward II, Kessler III - to me they're all about even in financial terms - and the only one I see Froch losing is Ward II.
All these fights (except Chavez Jr) would rather take place in the UK -- in order to provide a big gate revenues... But Kessler III? I don't know...

He's got a lot too tho. Good power, good jab, great stamina and punch resistance.
yeah id agree he has a decent dig on him and a good chin, but you know what im saying, he is quite slow, technically quite poor and this is why it was no surprise to see him well behind on the cards against a guy like groves who can move a bit.
im interested to see a rematch. first fight left a sour taste. the end result is froch got the win, but his stock went down whilst groves took a loss and his stock went up!
its amazing how well froch has done throughout his career when he lacks so much.

He didn't "punish him" in the sense he dominated him, gave him a sustained beating or was even winning but groves definitely took his share of punishment which his face tells.
I never said the fight was even I had Groves winning but it was far from a domination.
And you did say Froch barely landed any punches and Groves barely took any shots or punishment. You actually did say that go back to the thread and look.
Thank you.
The first paragraph is all I was saying. We just have different ideas what punishment means.
I think Groves took his fair share, Froch had his moments throughout the fight. But I Don't think I counted too many times where Froch landed clean hard shots. But Groves was landing the far better shots throughout the fight IMO.
But of course Groves took his share, otherwise his face would have looked differently.

According to a lot of these posters, Froch punished Groves
This is apparently what happened:
Froch was fine after the quick knockdown, it was more or less an equal fight and Froch unloaded dozens of clean shots on Groves who was wobbling around the ring when it got stopped.
I am a big Froch fan as well, but the way they spin the fight to be something it wasn't, is just insane.

Froch landed some good shots in the 9th round, yet Groves still wasn't 'so hurt'. He was hurt.
But definitely not to the extent Froch was in rounds 1 & 6 particularly.
Groves looked more hurt, the referee judges it by how the fighter looks. Froch was taking clean shots throughout but he was never sagging into the ropes and stumbling forward with his head down.
Wonder why Groves was so hurt from arm punches

I never said he didn't land anything.
I said he didn't punish Groves and a lot of his shots were arm punches. Not many landed on the button as opposed to Groves.
But let's agree to disagree. This is getting tiresome.

I wanted Froch to win, but I cant even describe it as a premature stoppage, the fight was rather cancelled for unknown reasons as the referee had an appointment somewhere else, ie maybe had a dentist appointment or left the oven on at home.
It didn't even get to the point of warranting being stopped. Don't a fighter have to be in some kind of trouble before being stopped?
This is why Froch shoulnt want the ref to be so clever and claim to see things other people don't see like Hayley joel Oswald in the sixth sense did.
When the ref stopped it, I thought something happened outside the ring or something, like someone parachuting into the ring or maybe Groves gloves had a tear in it or something.
Clearly Groves had been punished throughout the fight and was stumbling like a drunk around the ring when it got stopped.
He had lost all composure, to the extent where Froch looked like a guy sober enough to be on his way home from chuch in the first round.
:haha:
As opposed to Laced Up's version of events where Froch landed nothing throughout the fight and then only landed "half shots" at the end

Before the fight, I predicted and bet on a Froch win, and was a fan of Froch.
The fight changed everything.
Froch looked terrible in there against a kid who was in diapers when Froch was boxing in the amateurs!
Groves knocked Froch on his ass and beat him from post to pillar while Froch failed to knock Groves down. Froch got away with so much shoving and dirty tactics, and when he finally got in a few good shots, the blundering, clueless referee stopped the fight!!
Complete disgrace and embarrassment for the more experienced Froch to claim he won that fight.
That night, I lost my respect for Froch and became a big fan of Saint George!

I didn't say it was a flash knockdown. Why are you getting so emotional? He was clearly hurt but got up and recovered quickly. Please point me to the moment in the fight where Froch was sagging into the ropes and being hit repeatedly clean then stumbling around the ring with no legs?
