Pacquiao won't throw 100 punches a round against Mayweather but Mayweather won't throw 35 punches a round against Pacquiao either. How much was Mayweather throwing against DLH? Like 20 a round? Why would you think he'd throw more against someone more dangerous than DLH.
The ward/miranda fight wasn't boring at all.. Your an idot if you think so. Go watch the UFC flamer.
It was boring because Miranda barely landed anything, the guy is too one-dimensional.
After watching manny batter cotto around the ring for 12 rounds i noticed a couple of things. If cotto would have kept his cool and boxed behind his jab like he did in the first few rounds he may have had a good chance to win the fight as he was giving manny a very tough fight when he was boixng behind his jab. what do you think?
Cotto won the first round because Pac hadn't figured him out yet, so basically Pac figured him out after the first round.
After taking the best shots from Porter Pac knew he had nothing to worry about from Cotto. You could see Cotto's confidence fade to zero when in the 4th round Pacquiao just stood there at the ropes letting Cotto bomb away at him while taunting him and proceeding to knock him down for the second time just seconds later.
On the HBO version of the Cotto Judah fight they did not mention the fight night weight. At the weigh-in Cotto was 146.5 and Judah was 145.
On the HBO version of the Cotto Margarito fight they did not mention the fight night weight, just that both fighters weighed in at 147 at the weigh-in.
Rewatching the HBO version of the Cotto Clottey fight and they also don't mention the fight night weight, just that Cotto weighed in at 146 and Clottey at 147.
so your saying the Welterweight limit is ***-145
but i thought it was ***-147
No what he is saying is that it is still a ww fight, it's just not at the ww limit.
Clottey didn't want the win badly enough, he showed more energy after the decision was announced than during the fight. Clottey's high guard and counterpunching style gave Cotto tremendous problems, I feel he could have easily won that fight had he actually tried.
This fight will go the distance, no doubt about that, that's the only bet with real money I'd be willing to make for that fight. If Pacquiao manages to land punches I think he can edge out a points win. If Mayweather is fast enough to avoid Pac's punches he's going to win.
I'm thinking Pacquiao will outland Mayweather, Pac's a much more active fighter and while Mayweather has great defense and reflexes Pacquiao throws in combinations which would make it extremely difficult for Mayweather to dodge them all.
The ref should have stopped it way earlier and his team didn't do him any good to let him suffer that much punishment. It doesn't matter that Cotto wanted to continue, you need to use your better judgement and stop it to protect your fighter.
I'm pretty sure I heard someone from one of HBO's commentators (my house was pretty loud) that said that this fight already exceeded the "Numero Uno" PPV buys, and that's according to a top HBO honcho...
I heard that too, and it was from Jim Lampley during the late rounds.
I think Pac kept tapping Cottos shoulder to indicate for a staredown,i seen him tap him twice and look at him,but Cotto was looking at the crowed and camaras, and then they both started posing haha
That's what I saw, Cotto refused to look at him. WTF was up with that?
what are u talkin about..cotto walked over to pac
While keeping his eyes on the crowd, and then Pac tapped him in the shoulder for the staredown but Cotto kept looking at the crowd. Pac tapped his shoulder again but Cotto kept looking at the crowd.
This fight will probably be the best fight out of the entire Super Six tournament. From what little I've seen of Abraham he's too slow for Ward and Kessler, and I think Kessler will show tomorrow he's a few levels above Ward.
Very good post.
I pretty much agree with everything you had to say. I've always said that despite being an better box than Pacquiao, Floyd and Manny have elements to there game that will bother one another; mainly, Floyd's defensive style and counter punching, against Manny's lightning quick southpaw style.
However, I think that the reach in this fight is what will win it for Mayweather. While I don't know the exact numbers, I'm willing to bet Floyd has a good three or so inches on Manny. Due to this, Manny is going to have to come in much closer than Floyd, or extend himself, leaving himself open to counters.
Mayweather has a 5 inch arm reach advantage against Pacquiao, same advantage he enjoyed against Marquez.
Mayweather's 5 inch arm reach advantage and his incredible speed and reflexes proved to be too much for JMM. If JMM was the same weight and same height and same length of arms he would still have trouble with Mayweather's speed, although he would have certainly done better than what he did that night.
Jesus Chavez/ JLC were able to land right hands over the top against Mayweather and they fight out of an orthodox stance, Marquez did as well but rarely. Much easier for a south paw to land right hooks against Mayweather, especially one as athletic as Pacquiao. Also, Manny Pacquiao's 5'6 height would be VERY beneficial, in that, like Jesus Chavez, who is short; Pacquiao will be able to land over the top with the right hook.
Jesus Chavez is an inch shorter than Pacquiao but incredibly according to boxrec JC has the same arm reach as Mayweather. If that stat is accurate then your comparison is invalid because Pacquiao's arm reach is 5 inches shorter, same as JMM.
For Pacquiao to have any chance of hitting Mayweather he would need to get in close, fire a combination, and step out quickly. Considering Mayweather's incredibly fast reflexes and solid defense it'd be almost impossible for Pacquiao to hit Mayweather.
The main reason JMM didn't get knocked out by Mayweather was because he was barely doing anything. Pacquiao is much more aggressive and will give Mayweather plenty of opportunity to knock him out.
update: In the JC vs Mayweather fight JC's reach is listed as 65", however Boxrec and HBO has him listed at 72".
Diaz is a pressure fighter, but at the same time, Marquez's defensive flaws were also on display. Diaz was able to back Marquez into the ropes and land FLUSH pretty much at will. Throughout his career, have you ever seen Mayweather take those kinds of constant punches?
May i ask why???
I don't think Marquez was thinking about defense against Diaz, I think he was in warrior mode that night.
The reason why I think the fight will resemble Marquez Pacquiao 2 is because both fighters were mainly focused on defense that night. Marquez knows Mayweather likes fighting against pressure fighters with poor defense and excels against those fighters. Marquez also knows Mayweather has never ever fought a counterpuncher with good defense, much less an expert counterpuncher like Marquez.
Mark my words, Marquez will be in counterpunching mode this Saturday.
Juan Diaz was landing flush shots on Marquez even stunning him at times and we all know J Diaz ISNT EVEN on the same level as Floyd.
Floyd spanks Marquez on Sat. END OF DISCUSSION
Juan Diaz is a very aggressive fighter that always goes forward. Mayweather is a very defensive fighter who always goes backward. Exactly opposite styles.
Watch Marquez vs Pacquiao 2 to see what I think will be a close representation of what the Marquez Mayweather fight might look like.
He made weight fine it seems, he even said on 24/7 if the fight had to be today (week ago) everything is set in terms of training and weight.
.
He also said in 24/7 that all his stuff is paid for, and we now know that isn't true, so his word isn't worth much.
This episode was awesome, much better than the first one because they covered both fighters equally whereas the first episode was mostly all Mayweather.
Marquez looks very hungry for this fight, he looks extremely determined. I like what his trainer is doing with trying to get Marquez to prepare against Mayweather's unique style. When they showed the trainer watching the Mayweather Castillo fight I was like "this guy knows what he's doing", because I believe Castillo is the only guy to have beaten Mayweather.
Mayweather also looks extremely hungry and determined. He looks as fast as ever and his body condition looks incredible, almost superhuman, reminds me of Pacquiao.
I think it'll come to whether or not Marquez and his trainer can solve Mayweather's style, if they can I think Marquez can win a close decision. I'm very pumped for this fight, can't wait for September 19.
