Not overlooking Cotto.
What happened on Saturday doesn't indicate what Mayweather would be able to do against an opponent like Manny Pacquiao. While Juan Manuel Marquez was indeed the smaller guy, Marquez's style was also tailor made for Floyd Mayweather. Very few have been able to counter punch against Mayweather, Zab Judah being one of them; dude is fast and a south paw. Marquez doesn't have that type of athletic ability. Marquez has been more about timing.
Pacquiao has the speed to match Mayweather; is a south paw, so the shoulder roll won't be as effective. Pacquiao has the foot speed/ foot work/ angles to make Mayweather VERY uncomfortable. Also a new found more developed right hook. Jesus Chavez/ JLC were able to land right hands over the top against Mayweather and they fight out of an orthodox stance, Marquez did as well but rarely. Much easier for a south paw to land right hooks against Mayweather, especially one as athletic as Pacquiao. Also, Manny Pacquiao's 5'6 height would be VERY beneficial, in that, like Jesus Chavez, who is short; Pacquiao will be able to land over the top with the right hook.
We have to look at Zab Judah's success against Mayweather. Zab Judah stopped throwing the jab because he was being countered with left hooks over the top.

So Mayweather managed to take away one of his weapons and proceeded to break him down to the body. I don't see Mayweather having that sort of success against Pacquiao, Pacquiao is a VERY explosive combination puncher . He will jab to the body though, which is MUCH less of a risk. I don't think Zab Judah wasn't conditioned enough to go the 12 rounds with Mayweather, I believe he was. It had more to do with Mayweather's precise/ constant body attack.
Some may disagree but to me, Pacquiao's hand speed is slightly slower then Judah's. But Pacquiao's foot speed compensates for that. I've already mentioned that Pacquiao is more consistent so, who has Mayweather faced that has the stamina/ activity that Manny Pacquiao brings? No one. Would Mayweather be able to attack the body (As he did against Judah) without getting hit upstairs against an explosive combination puncher in Pacquiao? I have a hard time seeing that. What Mayweather vs. Marquez proved is that, Marquez isn't no where nearly as good of a weight jumper as Pacquiao. A good debate is, comparing Pacquiao's power/ hand speed with Judah's.
Next I'll make a thread as to why Pacquiao is gonna beat Cotto.
No one knows who will win because no one knows how much Pacquiao has improved, we've seen part of it but not in the full. Roach already trained someone to fight Floyd (Oscar) and he lost a narrow SD so he will give Pacquiao the right knowledge on what to do. Pacquiao is a lot better than De La Hoya was in 2007, just smaller. Pacquiao is just crazy how he improved so much in just a year, he must have been seriously weight drained or some divine intervention happened.
Where?

That is a clear K-D from what i see...It was timed perfectly while Mayweather was lunging in with his legs far apart..
Look at the heel dude :pat:
I did, Mayweather's glove touched the canvas but what I am saying is, Zab Judah's stepped on Mayweather's feet.

I agree with the TS, especially bout Manny being a southpaw and Floyd is wide open to a straight left with the shoulder roll. It blocks left hooks and straight rights perfectly, but as with every fighter, you can't cover your entire upper body with two arms. I also Mayweather get hit with left hooks to the body as well, again he covers his head very well but it leaves his body open as well. This doesn't necessarily mean Manny will win, but Manny is the kind of style you need in order to beat a boxer. The bounce in and out keeps Mayweather from being able to time his precision punches on top of all Manny's head movement. Manny is one of the only 2 people I feel may have a chance at beating Mayweather in the WW division.

No,It was a KD..You need to look at the replays...Mayweather rushed in and Zab layed a perfectly-timed hook that snapped his head back and threw him off balance..

Not really, it's already proven that Judah stepped on Mayweather's feet. There are pics out there, not a K.D.

The two times JJM and pacman fought they almost had the same power and speed, JJM was able to catch pacman with his couters yet when JMM fought Floyd it look like he was no where near catching him. some will say the weight play a role and yes i agree but from the 24/7 episodes on HBO i am 100% sure JMM and his camp were always talking about working on speed and footwork since they knew floyd is very fast yet the plan didnt work. floyd was faster than they tough. i cant see pacman beating floyd only cuz floyd's defense and counters are well timed his accuracy is ridiculous, pacman likes to jump in and out very predictable which is why JMM was able to give him trouble. floyd will check him all day with the jab...
Ive been saying the same thing in regards to Mayweather/Judah...Had Zab had the fortitude to stay in a good mind frame, who knows...He needed to throw more and keep his hands up..
Plus dont forget Zab made him take a seat..Shouldve been counted as a knockdown..

Thats all well and good, but ultimately IMO it comes down to this.
Pac has looked great against people who go to war with him, or are there to be hit ; Barrera, Morales, Hatton, Oscar, Diaz.
He struggled both times with JMM.
Floyd is near impossible to hit.
JMM moved forward as fast as he could, threw long combinations, and missed by a mile. He had minor success on the ropes.
Pacs defence isnt as good as JMM's.
I think Floyds footwork, hand speed are much better than Pacs.
Pac hits air, and leaves himself open for counters.
If it turns out how I imagine, I'll agree with that.
But you never know! Cotto might just prove to be a step too far. This is a big risk for Pacquiao and pretty much no risk at all for Cotto. Then again, the DLH fight was also a big risk, but look how that turned out.
Big risk for Manny but not Cotto??? thats way over the top there mate, Pacman is in a win-win situation just like JMM was with the Mayweather fight, If Pacman wins he would be the greatest thing since slice bread and if he loses well "Cotto is the bigger man", If cotto loses then he's stock takes a hit just like Oscar because they are the bigger man and the fact that Manny made Cotto comes down to 145 made this fight a NO-risk fight for Pacman, Even if he loses he wouldnt be destroyed because he has speed something which he would need against the slower cotto.
So in conclusion Manny is fighting a NO-risk fight interms of reputation while Cotto is the one risking everything and putting it on the line.
Truth is, Pacquiao would have badly beat that Marquez. Some people are trippin.
I agree. Pac of now vs JMM who Mayweather fought. Pacman will do better as what he did to DLH and Hatton.
Cotto is gonna get his ass kicked.

Freddie is probably right -- MP's best fighting weight in the ring is around 148/149. That's small compared to most welterweights. Pacquiao seems more like a 140lb fighter to me, but let's see how effective he is against Cotto.
Cotto is gonna get his ass kicked.
