Clottey def won the fight... I had him by a round..
If you look at the damage, he really destroyed Cotto.. Thats my opinion, but theres too many puerto ricans here that think otherwise.. He landed the crisper and harder shots
It was close but Cotto got the 1st rd knockdown. Clottey got the 3rd rd headbutt that really affected Cotto's vision and Clottey still couldn't put Cotto down. Thus the decision was right. Cotto with one eye won the last and final round.
Numerically Cotto won more rounds but i wont argue that Clottey looked! like the winner, but that is not how Boxing is scored, Cotto won more rounds with the KD being a key factor so he won the fight.
Yep, you replied in the same minute I was writing my post. Agree, the knockdown made the difference to the outcome.
BTW, hi DK. :)

I gave it to Cotto, but the difference was the "knockdown", which wasn't really much of a knockdown. People started going crazy about Cotto's jab after that, but I would love to know, if it was that good, how come his power punches barely had an effect on Clottey? He was knocked down by a jab, but shook his head at the barrage of power punches later on?
Had the KD not occurred, I probably would say it was a draw, or maybe Clottey deserved it. If Clottey had thrown more, maybe he could have convinced me that he deserved the win. He was just a little too defensive, but he needed to make more of a statement, which he didn't.

Cant really remember too clearly, but Im pretty sure I had Cotto up by a tiny bit, I dont think the decision was as controversial as it was made out to be tbh
Clottey didn't want the win badly enough, he showed more energy after the decision was announced than during the fight. Clottey's high guard and counterpunching style gave Cotto tremendous problems, I feel he could have easily won that fight had he actually tried.
A round either way I can see.
Clottey kept sitting on the ropes and taking shots. He also got caught too much with the Cotto left hook later on, allowing Cotto to steal rounds.
The problem that some people have with this fight is that when Clottey won a round, he won it big. However, when Cotto won a round it tended to be by a smaller margin.
In terms of rounds/points/scoring - I have no problem with Cotto getting the win. However, Clottey did hand him a beating. Make no mistake about that.
