I tend to favor substance over style, so I scored it for Forrest, 115-113, when I first saw it live and then much later when I recently revisited it. Neither guy looked particularly good, but I thought Forrest's punches were landing much cleaner and Mayorga's were mostly getting partially blocked.
George Foreman and Harold Lederman had a strong bias towards Mayorga in the way they were announcing the fight, so it wouldn't surprise me if most people who saw it on TV thought Mayorga won.
It was a lackluster effort on both sides, but especially for Marquez, who was fouling a lot and had points taken off. Not signature Marquez, that's for sure.
dude, you're a real toolbox, why are you always spamming nsb with your anti floyd hate? honestly, if you take your time to be dissing someone, you're probably just an idiot with no life.
Agreed, that's probably what he is.
All you have to do is take one look at this site to see that it's filled with haters of all sorts: Manny haters, Floyd haters, and Wlad haters seem to be the most common, but there is probably at least one hate thread for each great fighter. How can anyone enjoy this sport if all they do is hate on people? I hate to say it, but a lot of boxing "fans" are just idiots.
Pac is only fighting Margarito, cause the fight is FIXED, just like Pac-Clottey was FIXED.
Manny Pacquiao is a Joke.
The most overrated boxer in history.
Pac uses steroids/epo/hgh
Pac ducks fighters like Humberto Soto, Juan Diaz, Edwin Valero (when he was alive), ducks Shane Mosley, and now ducks Floyd ( by refusing to take steroids tests), and so many other fighters.
Pac had 2 FIXED FIGHTS against Oscar, and Clottey.
Pac will have another FIXED FIGHT against Margarito.
Pac's co-promoter (Oscar) is "milking" Pac's career to "milk in" Asian $$$$$ from Asians, from all over the world
Manny Pacquiao is a Joke.
You're an even bigger joke.
Tyson fought Clifford Etienne with a broken back and didn't take any painkillers before the fight because he knew they'd show up when he got tested. It's perfectly rational to believe that he never took steroids because, frankly, he could've used them later in his career.
Far from the best, but certainly not the worst. There are a few decent FOTY candidates. Calderon-Segura, Escalante-Roman, and Burns-Martinez are the only fights I can see taking it.
Yeah, Hatton was definitely going overboard in that video. Nothing at all like Calzaghe, who was just doing a line every now and then. Hatton clearly has a problem.
There's nothing more annoying than old-timers in the gym talking about how Joe Louis would KO all the bums out there these days.
That said, I also don't think you can say that athletes back then couldn't compete today. Really? You don't think an average 40's heavyweight could probably KO most of the top ten heavyweights right now? Hell, a 40's light heavyweight could probably move up and clean out most of the division with the exception of the Klitschko's.
People back then were athletic too. It's not like we've undergone a whole new stage of human evolution.
LOL....that would be an Amir Khan thing to do. Call out an aging fighter with big name who doesn't stand a chance. Get the big payday and the easy win.
They are in two totally different weight classes. Hopkins has been talking about going up, not down. This fight is simply not plausible. Let's worry about fights that actually should be happening, like Pac/May or Klitschko/Haye.
The title of this thread is idiotic. "Only idiots would think"...smarmy bull****. Plus, to reiterate the above comment, what makes 60 the cut-off? So we can agree that Monzon or Leonard would be able to compete but Armstrong and Pep wouldn't? Dumb.
Castillo. At least Roy is getting KTFO'd by decent opposition. JLC has to keep fighting nobodies every month because he can't afford to retire. Just sad.
Yeah, he knocked out Baldy like 20 years ago. What of it? All I know is that Baldomir has a big, rock-like head that will be very difficult to hurt. Canelo might get him on his feet though.
