They have both lost to Miguel Cotto and been exposed as weak punchers and limited fighters against world-class opposition.
So why is this fight so intriguing? Because both fighters have quick, technical, Willie Pep-like styles, and would be well-matched against each other. It would be a boxing clinic, and Yuri Foreman (pictured) and Paulie Malignaggi could both use another good fight against a well-recognized name.
They're currently about 15 pounds apart (Foreman at 154 and Malignaggi at 139), but they could easily meet at a 147 pound catchweight. With a combined 13 KOs out of 55 wins, nobody expects a knockout, so power will be less of a concern than it is in most cross-division fights.
This fight would sell well in New York City. Think of it: the Jewish Rabbi-in-training versus the Brooklyn-born Italian-American king of sound bites. It would be a beautiful technical boxing match in America's largest city.
Why, has Foreman had a bad knee his entire career?
actually yea. the surgeon told foreman hes gonna be able to sit on his punches more after getting his knee surgery which equals more power. there was a whole thread on this
Paulie would get his ass knocked out. hes to small for WW and has no power. Foreman gonna have more power after his knee surgery

It's a lot harder to go down in weight than to come up. No way do I see Foreman trying to drain himself to fight Malinaggi. Now would be he kill himself to go down to 147 to fight Pac or a Floyd and 147???? Who wouldn't with the money you can make fighting these two. There is a reason Paul Williams is willing to go down to 147 to fight those two even though it has been years now since he has been down there. Back to the fight, there is very little appeal to a fight where the chance of a KO is virtually nil and while Malinaggi is extremely charismatic when it comes to selling a fight his opponent is the polar opposite and people may have worn thin of Paulie's big talk, small performance in the ring. I have come up with a name for this fight if it was ever to come to fruition: Pillow Punching Power or Pugilists which ever floats your boat.
After Salita's comeback win over Franklin Gonzalez Sept. 1, Paulie Malignaggi stepped in the ring and got on the mic. Malignaggi and Salita both talked about having a match against one another.
They wouldn't actually be too far in weight - Malignaggi's going to fight at 147 now, and even then he wouldn't be too short for 154. As far as an actual fight goes, who knows! Being such light hitters, maybe they wouldn't be afraid to engage in a war. :laff2:
