I said a few days ago, all Canelo needed to do was up his output and he would win the fight. Well, he did better than I thought he would. Canelo still gassed around the 8th round but he continued to bring the fight to Golovkin. Canelo is not a great fighter but he's better than Golovkin. He should've won the first fight but he gave it a way. Golovkin should've stopped Canelo in the first fight but he fought cautiously. He should've lost to Jacobs but he got a gift to set up this fight. Golovkin is not as good as his fans think he is but in this era of boxing he was considered an ATG. We also saw two other severely limited boxers get KO stoppages last night and everyone acted like they were something special. I'm glad Canelo finally ended the Golovkin hype train. I agree with the message in this post, but I just wanted to say: 1. I think Canelo is a great fighter. Not atg top 10 MW or anything, but great nonetheless. 2. GGG has been grossly overrated but I do think he's a damn good fighter. 3. Munguia and Lemiuex are both incredibly limited lol The difference is one is 21 and the other is just garbage.

Look at all the different layers and dimensions canelo showed in 2 fights! Landed a total array of punches in BOTH fights. Whooped GGG on his back foot you complained so whooped him this time on the front foot. Meanwhile GGG threw but had insane 500 miss rate in the first fight. You claimed it was because of running. He missed over 600 times the second fight and can't land anything but jabs in both fights while his face looks worse each time. Canelo is just better. GGG no defense too slow and scared to commit to the body. Canelo does want he wanted in both fights and GGG still making excuses for what he can't do. Haven't seen your post in a while but this sums things up nicely. Alvarez is simply the better fighter. More dimensions to his game, and more importantly, more poise and grit as a fighter.

Population is a big help plus Canelo is Mexican ..... they love their boxing Oh no doubt. I've written many posts about that. They are the lifeblood of boxing in this market. But I think the Wilder v. Fury PPV sales will surprise people if the fight happens. Wilder has caught the attention of a fair amount of the public. His Showtime numbers and recent attendance figures show that. He pulled weirdly high ratings on his last few Showtime fights. It's really hard for that network to break the 800k figure in live viewers for boxing. He's done it consistently (averaging near 1 million views). There's only one other fight that's done that in like 3 years lol Wilder has 3 fights that's cracked that number. For some reason, I get the idea that they will sell around 400k PPV buys here if they fight.

It's a shame for americans that their most exciting boxer isn't that popular because Wilder has nothing to be ashamed for. He destroys opponents and does that in a flash-fire fashion. Why is it a shame? Boxing has many structural issues that has led to it's sharp decline in general popularity here. Only an exceptional character/fighter like Floyd could garner the public's attention despite the b.s. in boxing. The big fights here still out earn anything the European market has ever seen. When boxing gets out of its own way, this market is still the one that makes true fortunes for fighters. Just look at the money Canelo and GGG generated and will generate in a few weeks. Their live gate was around $30 million and the PPV was $110 million. (That's $85 million for the fighters to split btw) That's what we do here when there's a true fight on the line. As big as AJ is there, his fights have a ceiling of about $50 million in total revenue (live gate and PPV). America is still the place where boxing makes it's money. Fury v. Wilder could be a decent success and pull a live gate of $10 - $15 million and generate PPV revenue of $20 - $30 million (or 300k - 600k in PPV buys). It's just a different level here. We don't need 1000 drunk people in a lobby to show we support boxing lol We do it with our wallets when appropriate.

Facts! We do spend that money when it's appropriate, BUT sometimes we spend it when it's NOT appropriate too, which was part of the problem in boxing! I thank Al Haymon for bringing boxing back to network TV, and Showtime for giving us good fights that were not PPVs! Without Al (CBS/Showtime), I don't think we would've seen the Top Rank/ESPN deal! Now we get Crawford and Lomachenko for FREE!!! I'm a huge NY Knicks fan, going way back to the Bernard King/Sugar Ray Richardson days! I always felt that Knicks' ownership is weak because they make so much money, even when they put together trash rosters, with formerly great players, that we all know are not prime time players anymore! I always blame the people spending thousands of dollars to be in the garden, even when the Knicks SUCK! It's one thing to support your team, but fans need to protest with their dollars! In fact, most protests are more effective via boycott, vice marching, rioting, etc.! STAY WOKE! I lived in NYC for 4 years. Just moved away last month. I've constantly told Knicks fans that they're the Lions fans of the NBA. A team with a great history and no modern success to speak of lol That really pissed them off lol

Eddie's behavior over the last few weeks sort supports this assertion. I think sometimes he talks a little too much. I wonder if Barry Hearn will write another open letter to do a little damage control here. It seemed to work a little for the duck move. He was pretty open about their intentions to marinate the Wilder fight.

To keep it real, if I had to judge between the Joe Louis Era, The Ali Era, the Tyson Era, the Klitschko Era, and "The Present," "The Present" is probably the worst! NOT EVERY FIGHT DESERVES TO BE A PPV! Floyd and Manny f**ked up the game, but at least they were high-level fighters! Wilder, Fury and Joshua are not high-level fighters like Tyson, Lewis, Bowe and Holyfield! These are PPV WORTHY FIGHTS: 1) Canelo vs. GGG 2) Canelo vs. Spence 3) Mikey Garcia vs. Lomachenko 4) Spence vs. Mikey Garcia 5) Spence vs. Crawford Other than that, I really don't see true PPV worthy fights! There are great fights that I want to see, like Tank vs. Farmer, Tank vs. Mikey, Tank vs. Loma, Loma vs. Pacquiao, Spence vs. Thurman, Charlo vs. Jacobs, Charlo vs. Hurd, Hurd vs. Munguia, and Wilder vs. Joshua, but they are not necessarily PPV WORTHY! They might be ONLY because we've paid for lesser fights in the past! Oh, I agree. I just hate when posters talk about the American market, ignoring the fact that we've been through a lot of weird structural changes (premium cable, promotional beefs, PPV nonsense etc.) that have basically regulated the sport to it's current state. Despite all of this, we will still spend that money when appropriate.

I can’t see the fight doing 300-600k PPV buys. Maybe 350k tops. Even AJ vs Wilder would struggle to do 500 PPV buys. I only say that because you can not get a more competitive fight than Ward vs Kovalev and genuine needle between both fighters yet it only done 170 k buys. I think the American PPV market is very temperamental at the moment so nowthat I have predicted it won’t do 350k watch it now break the 2 million mark Absolutely no one knew either of those guys outside of boxing fans. And still don't. Despite the nonsense posted here, Wilder has a casual following. Evidenced by his TV ratings on Showtime.

Kanelo GGG are big because of insult hype between each other, not by how great boxers they are. Don't get me wrong, they are great boxers but that means almost nothing in USA. Up to 10 mil $ if very lucky, not more. Americans should be ashamed that they act like wrestling or Trump rally audience which gets hooked on a trashtalking and other lowest baits with zero intelligence in it. He tried mocking him by asking three random people in the street if they'd heard of him. He offered him $3m to fight Whyte and told him to get real when he asked for more. Then they whisked him away when he wanted a guarantee to fight Joshua after if he won. He offered him a flat fee instead of a percentage. He *****ed around with no intention of fighting him this year. And then he had the nerve to say the April offer would be decreased if he didn't sign it. Deontay Wilder took a lot of crap from that arrogant kid named Hearn. And now he's involved in the biggest heavyweight fight this year. He can and should say whatever the hell he wants. Don't forget the random 10 minute interviews about Wilder where he makes a series of contradictory statements, including offers to sign him, fake fight offers, and subtle insults. Wilder can definitely say what he wants about that camp.

You make some valid points and some not so. Prior to the Klitschko fight Joshua was a popular fighter but Wembley stadium being filled was a joint effort . If not for the Klitschko fight and Joshua winning in emphatic style he would not be so popular. That fight even got the attention of some Americans who were unaware of Joshua at the time. Now there is no doubt Joshua through every fight has got bigger and bigger both Commercially and what he generates per fight. At the time of facing Klitschko he was the bigger name globally and although it was 50/50 Klitschko got the preferential treatment . They were basically paying him for the opportunity of having him on their resume. Wilder is just as big in his own right but because it is well documented what he earns per fight he is not the draw. History shows AJ can fight moderate opponents and still fill 78,000 seater stadiums . Unquestionably Wilder brings the unpredictability and no other opponent can generate AJ the amount of money Wilder is capable of but he still doesn’t deserve 50/50. Even if he beats Fury he will not be the A side however if PPV figures are through the roof( which I doubt) then you have a very good point. I am however beginning to see Hearn’s contradictions which is very very worrying as an AJ fan I get what you're saying here, however I think we can agree times have changed on the purse split. But to my broader point, I'm just bothered with how freely and confidently he made these comments. He acts as if we don't have hours of comments with him contradicting these remarks lol

He made a number of statements that are interesting at this presser: 1. Wilder v. Joshua is bigger than Vlad v. Joshua; 2. We know the money is bigger on the US; and 3. We're not willing to wait on the outcome of the fight in December. These statements are all contradictory and revealing for a numbers of reasons. 1. He's been quoted on the past saying Wilder didn't deserve 50/50 (although that's what Vlad got). And that Wilder was "unknown" and needed to fight Wyhte for exposure; 2. He's been quoted saying that the money in the US couldn't be known and that the UK market was the more logical location for the fight; and 3. He's been talking about mandatories but AJ said it a few times yesterday (and can be seen by looking at the current rankings) that there won't be a mandatory due. All of this makes me believe that Hearn absolutely wants to get the April date filled before Wilder v. Fury because: 1. He doesn't want to risk that fight doing big business and making the UK location look silly; and 2. If Wilder beats Fury in emphatic fashion, his celebrity will explode in both countries and then there's a real question about who's the "A side."

I saw an earlier article that said by th etime all the ppv receipts are in Golovkin will have earned $60 million plus from these two ppvs. Plus endorsements. And this for the 97K fighter from some country that most NSB posters couldn't place on a map if their lives depended on it. Ward was supposed to have all that. And he doesn't. It's not Golovkin and Kovalev fans who are salty and jealous. It's Ward himself! So you're trying to convince us that GGG earned a Mayweather purse for two fights? Lol Remember Mayweather earned $32M per fight on his 1M buy fights under the Showtime deal. It's basically impossible that he earned that much per fight because we all know Canelo took the lions share both times. That number is much closer to $30M than $60M. And btw not sure what planet you've been on but Ward made some serious cash in his career too. After that Roc Nation deal he likely pulled north of $30M in his career. I took it from the Cliff Rold article Butch. Guess he has more insight than you and me. Yep Ward made money but he never was a huge star - he was a hard core fan's idol but he never went mainstream - and he really should have done after super six but he messed it up with long layoffs and boring style - or at least a style that doesn't appeal to casuals I don't care where it came from. Simple math shows that the information is wrong. Unless GGG has some endorsements deals for each fight that are north of $10M lol (which isn't really a thing in boxing). Also, Ward very similar amounts in PPVs as GGG when he wasn't on a card with Canelo. So I would say he wasn't that much more popular than Ward prior to fighting the new golden child. Let's not act like he'd do big numbers without Alvarez.

To be fair golovkin ducked the living shat out of ward. Hid behind promoters other fighters and his trainer. I see why now......ward would have gotten in his chest and that fight wouldn't have gone more then 5 rounds.......golovkin was just stalked by a smaller fighter telling him lets go lets slug it out. His face looked like a pizza at the end. I don't know who did it but golovkin is one of the most overrated fighters in the last decade...... Ward v Golovkin would've been a complete mismatch. Haven't Hearn & DAZN both denied their deal is only gtd for 2yrs? If so what makes you believe they are lying? Well I mean besides the fact DAZN could likely end the deal at any point just like HBO could drop Canelo tomorrow if they really wanted to, but typically something extreme or just consistently bad has to go down for these sorta plans to end early. And where is this $50M number from? I've not heard that figure mentioned at all. The only figure I've heard for year 1 are $100M+ & usually $125M is being mentioned. Granted I can't believe with this current roster that they aren't hemming that up or pushing back some of that money to year two cuz if Hearn is throwing $100M+ at Farmer, Big Baby, Jessie f#cking Vargas & Boo Boo he's out of his gourd. Of course they won't come out and say what the exact terms are, however, read the following: "Those 16 shows will go along with the 16 cards a year Hearn promotes in the U.K. on broadcast partner Sky Sports. All 32 cards, plus the four or five cards Hearn has on Sky Box Office pay-per-view each year in the U.K., will be part of the DAZN boxing offerings in the U.S. for a monthly subscription fee that has not yet been announced, but one that won't require a contract." Now ask yourself, "How much are the US rights worth for an AJ fight? A Usyk v. Bellew fight? A Whyte v. Chisora fight?" I think people are missing that point. A significant portion of the budget is going to be used to pay AJ's US rights fee twice per year (along with other guy's fights). So whatever Showtime gave them, just know DAZN is putting more in that bucket. Now, when you take a step back and realize what's going on, you see that the money isn't all going to be used for "US fighters." It's fair to assume $15 - $20 million will go right back into the Matchroom UK bucket as a part of those fight budgets. Now, my info on what the deals true budget is for the US fighters and the escalators is coming from insider info. However, if you just look at what fighters are saying, I think it's clear he's not throwing ridiculous money at them. Which explains why he's only been able to grab guys in the 100k - 500k per fight range. He's not guaranteeing $5 million per fight or anything close to that right now. That's why nobody signed.

Is Warren's math even right? Supposedly Hearn got 1 billion. Was that over 10 years or 5 years? If it's over 10 then that's 100 mil per year. Did Haymon really get that much from Sho and Fox? Although I will say, it helps being paid by two different sources. Odd that CBS would pay someone who also partners with their rival Fox. The Hearn - DAZN deal was not for $1 billion today. It COULD be worth up to $1 billion if it goes the full 10 years. It has escalators built in, which means the deal increases over time if certain benchmarks are met. Hearn's current DAZN budget is not $125 million. It's closer to $50 million. The deal is only guaranteed for 2 years right now, which means if things don't go well, they'll scrap the deal. That $1 billion dollar budget narrative is not reality. 2. I get that everybody doesn't understand accounting/finance. However, Haymon didn't "spend" $500 million. Again that was some narrative that was created by boxing "writers" who don't know a thing about business. 3. Haymon's deals aren't hard to understand at all. The ratings they collected clearly pointed to them eventually getting a TV deal in the $100 million range. It wasn't surprising at all, but for some reason people refuse to pay attention to reality. CBS/SHO and 21st Century FOX need the live sports content so obviously both wanted in. This isn't rocket science lol

The article says that the guy has a total of 32 cards with the UK and US deal in a calendar (expected). Meanwhile, the PBC announces two deals that demand a total of 52 cards (30 from SHO/ShoBox and 22 from FOX/FS1) plus PPVs, and both networks are equipped with their own apps for streaming. And yet they still think Hearn has a bigger budget lol What they fail to realize is that BOTH budgets are bigger than the DAZN US budget lol

To a lesser extent because of the profile of Klitschko, but this is was a really good win. Maybe more impressive. I mean, Ortiz is a monster and incredibly skilled. The fact that Deontay went through that kind of adversity to do what he did helped him prove something we didn't know about him. In a way, that was the best thing for him. Agree with all of this
