Wilder knocked down Ortiz three times in the fight, finishing off the previously unbeaten challenger with a right uppercut as the referee stopped the fight with 55 seconds left in the 10th. It's the first loss of Ortiz's career, the Cuban now 28-1. Click Here To Read More]
The Ortiz victory is more impressive. Wlad was done at that point and had just gotten schooled by Fury, almost shut out the entire fight. It was a good win for AJ but he went life and death against a guy he should have steamrolled at that point. It bumped up Wlad's legacy more than AJ's. Ortiz had the Cuban pedigree, seemed iron chinned, and brough power and skills. On paper he had everything to beat Wilder, and was doing so most of the fight, but Wilder and his equalizing power prevailed.wlad was not done. Go back to that fight and read comments from his contemporaries and writers. It's the best he looked in years. He took more risks, was more active and had a wonderful performance. It's not my opinion. It's virtually unanimous in 6he boxing community.
And no, he was not shut out by fury. Stop rewriting history. Fury won the fight, but that thing was do boring and lacked any kind of action that there were legitimate robbery concerns.
Ortiz has a Cuban pedigree? Cool. Wlad won an Olympic gold medal and was a heavyweight champion for a fuking decade. Ortiz never won anything on world level in the amateurs. Not everyone from Cuba is Savon or Rigondeux.
And how did Ortiz prove he had power and chin? He never fought a hard hitter who tested him, and went 12 rounds with Scott, a guy that wilder knocked out in 1. He was also 7 years older than wilder. Wilder was a 3 to 1 favorite for a reason, to say that Ortiz had everything in his favor is laughable. Bookies aren't in the business of losing money.
Not sure what else to tell you. There are simply no facts to back up Ortiz being even in the same league as wlad. If you want to be a fool and say it's because Ortiz had the 0 and wlad didn't, go ahead.

People aren't talking about this. Ortiz looked AMAZING. He was fast, he was strong, his counters were lighting quick and his power showed. He was very good tonight and still got stopped.
He did, but so did the Wlad Klitschko that Joshua fought. That was the meanest and most motivated Wlad we saw for years.
Definitely a great win for Wilder, cementing his status as the no.2 in the division. Now we need to see the fight..
This is getting asinine. Ortiz is no where near wlad in terms of skill. Ortiz is a good win for Wilder, but Joshua was wayyy more impressive.
Not only is wlad more skilled, tougher and a bigger name, but AJ walked through hell in that fight to survive. Wilder was 10 secs from being ktfo and got saved by the bell.
I don't think you understand what skill is. He quit and had been beaten by lesser fighters so save that non-sense.
Respect to Ortiz...a big man who can really fight.
No wonder he had been avoided like the plague.
Bigger respect to Wilder who choose to fight Ortiz who was not even a mandatory.
As i had said before if the Ortiz who beat Jennings showed up, Wilder was in for a long night. THAT Ortiz showed up and some more.
Here is hoping Ortiz gets another money fight.
Wilder passed the test with flying colors no matter what his detractors say.
40-0 with 39KOs is no accident when you have a RIGHT hand like he does.
There is POISON on that right hand.
Keep betting against him!!
He just needs to learn how to use that left jab effectively instead of as a range finder.
All in all a good HW rumble.
Respect to both gladiators.

WILDER VS JOSHUA is the only conversation needed!!!
Yeah the calling for this fight would only get bigger if Joshua destroys Parker in devastating fashion. Am actually super pumped!!! Wilder did his bit yesterday and since AJ is fighting in two weeks then a win for him makes it the perfect time to make this fight..... if he wins I really hope negotiations goes smoothly.
I've watched both fights back today.
Wlad that night beats Wilder and Ortiz of last night.
And AJ certainly does.
Consensus is Wlad is a Hof'er and had a poor performance against Fury. He didn't against AJ.
Ortiz has faced anywhere near that level of completion, was slow, plodding, yet he managed to hurt Wilder and Wilder barely threw for 4 rounds.
It's an embarrassingly obvious difference in levels. But Wilder has a shot. It's HW.

Actually, Wlad looked very good in that fight. Whereas Ortiz gassed out badly after throwing a few punches. Wlad was better against AJ than Ortiz has ever looked.
Wlad went the distance with Bryant Jennings.
Ortiz crushed him in 7.
So that makes him better does it?
Wlad is clearly the superior fighter. To think otherwise shows the level of delusion that you're at.
And Wlad hits much harder. Ortiz doesn't have any power any more. There was **** all on his punches last night. Yet he nearly had Deontay out of there.
When AJ hits Wilder, he'll knock him clean out. Wilder doesn't have a chin. I'm not saying AJ has a great one either, but it clearly is better than Wilder's, that's for sure.

You're not allowed to tell the truth on this forum. The trolls don't like it.
Klitshcko was done, faded coming off a loss and been KO by bums ; A.J's win over that clown is overrated. Lennox Lewis needs to shut his mouth.
Klitschko was a vastly superior fighter to last nights version of Ortiz. Nothing happened for the first 6 rounds but Ortiz managed to gas out after throwing a few punches. By far the worst stamina in world boxing.
Oh, And Ortiz' power just isn't there any more. The shots he had Wilder doing the drunken dance with weren't even hard for **** sake. And he nearly had Wilder out of there. Good win, but lets not go overboard.
Wilder's conditioning, self respect, character and faithful determination makes him difficult to wager against. AJ is the new Golden Child, earning millions regardless of opposition. He 's in no rush to risk it all on a dramatically awkward but iron willed Wild Card. If it happens in the next year, I like Deontay to derail the big UK dream.

If Wlad was "done", as you say, then so was Ortiz. Ortiz looked good against Wilder but not against journeymen like Martz, Allen and Scott beforehand. He's also likely older than Wlad, as we all know.
But both Wilder and Joshua should get big props for winning their major step-up fights. Now we just need to see the two of the them in the ring together and this debate can be settled once and for all.

I have to agree here.
Having said that, I don't think that highly of AJ. He's good but not the boxing genius people make him out to be.
It's not an impossible task for Wilder.
Judging by the talks of both camps it looks unlikely that we'll ever see this fight though. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Asinine is the right word for some of the crap I've been reading from Wilder fanboys today!
Ortiz's highest achievement as an amateur was a gold medal in the Pan American games. He has never beaten an elite level pro and just got KTFO in his first and only world title fight.
Wlad was Olympic champion as an amateur and won 25 world title fights as a pro. But, according to the Wilder fans, Ortiz is clearly a much more skillful boxer than Wlad ever was.
