Well... you gotta say that he did remind you of a hearns revived.... He had K.O's (mostly from work though) and he was extremely tall for his class... threw alot of punches... and had a great reach... plus undefeated...
I could see anyone being hyped by him just a lil after reading his stats and seeing him fight a few no names..
I thought he seemed to throw slow looping punches and people said he was going to give Mayweather trouble. I couldn't believe he beat Margarito. Oh well, I just didn't see the hype.
So Atleast your not alone in your thoughts.
I have always read on here how great people think he is and just laugh about it. I guess after he lost recently, you don't hear about him anymore.
ZAB judah is definitely not overated... You guys seriusly need to look into that.
STAMINA has been and always will be his problem.
PAUL WILLIAMS is the most overrated Boxer I'd say, and I was also one of the guys who said it.
I read this entire thread hoping to be the first to say Paul Williams. Damn you.
BORING, can you guys at least come up with something new instead of all this old junk? How is Floyd ducking Cotto when Cotto is facing a journeyman next month? Arum don't want Cotto-Mayyweather yet because he knows Floyd will ruin his fighter and all the big paydays that Cotto could possibly have. You don't see Floyd still fighting journeyman do you?
Some people would argue that he's fighting has beens instead of journeymen though.
On a side note, I saw Floyd Sr. at the mall saturday and said, "Floyd Sr., What up?" and he looked at me like "Is that my name? Floyd Sr.? Oh yeah, it is" Then he said something that sounded kind of like, "What's up, buddy?" but I couldn't really understand him. My girlfriend said, "What the hell did he say?"
On 24/7 with Hatton, Floyd was shown eating a lot of candy. So, ...to all you haters, ...this fight obviously makes sense because Floyd needs the candy.
I don't think the government really screwed him as much as his managment did. Some people just aren't good at the business side of things and leave it up to thier management. He did that and assumed his taxes were being paid. His management couldn't care less and that's how he got into trouble. Everybody knows not to fuck with the IRS because they are rutheless.
How in the heck is he insulting the sport of boxing??? McMhan is giving away money so why not get some...The biggest name in boxing is taking on the wrestler in the biggest sports ent. business..You chumps didn't say crap when Tyson took the gig with WWE...
You're right, I didn't say a word. I just shook my head in disgust, ...like I'm doing right now.
that's besides the point. IMO though Louis still managed to live a very charmed life even after he had been committed and "broke." Eating well and gambling for free.
That's my opinion too. It's his own fault he didn't pay his taxes.
On a side note, why does Larry Merchant always pose for pictures holding up his fists like he's a fighter?
Doubt it. Some are born handsome. Some are born honest. Some are born exciting. Spinks is none of the above.
That's hilarious. I wonder how many times he's been told that he looks just like his dad?
I've been thinking the same thing, unless he has a knockout, it's not convincing. Like the De la Hoya/Vargas fight, you knew he won that fight. Maybe he will show up in some fishnet too?
I think he's be a great fighter if he had some power. He really annoys me in interviews, so I don't think I could take it in person and I would have to mess up his hair.
Why wouldn't he? If he's a professional, he studies film just like other fighters do, and how teams do in other sports. You think he just goes into every fight blind? He might say he does, but come on now. He studies the weaknesses on film, and he exploits them in the fight.
Like someone else said, Cotto "makes no cents" for him, but Gatti and Baldo did?
First, it's difficult for me to read your post with that pic in your sig but I'm working through it. But Floyd claims he bever watches film on any fighter? I don't know if I believe it, it just seems dumb not to do your homework at that level.
I could sell t shirts that say Lifestyle on the front and Flashy on the BACK lol
Funny, you mention t-shirts. I saw a homeless man a while back here in Vegas wearing a Philthy Rich Records t-shirt.
The fight will happen when the time is right for them to make the biggest money on it. Isn't Mayweather on Golden Boy Promotions now? If so, how hard is it going to be to get anything done with DLH, Mayweather, and Arum negotiating money?
Hagler didn't seem to impose his power on the quicker Leonard, so what would have happened if he faced a quick, powerful Jones? Leonard landed a bunch of powder puff shots on Hagler's hard ass head. I don't think Jones would have knocked Hagler out, but he would have landed some shots that I think would have accumilated damage to Hagler.
I would guess Jones by UD and been sad about it.
There hasn't been another Hagler and never will be.
I'll give Roy a little credit. I thought he should have let his hands go and Tito would have went down. But that could just be wishfull thinking on my part.
Now that Roy has won, he should have some fans jumping back on his bandwagon after they hated him last week.
On the Fischer/Kasparov comments by Kellerman, I liked when Lampley said to him that was Merchantesque. When you think about it, it was. I understood it, but like Merchant it seemed to go on for a little too long.
I was listening to that wondering why I was hearing it from Kellerman and not Merchant when all of the sudden Lampley said it was Merchantesque. I laughed my ass off.
Hagler legally changed his name from Marvin to Marvelous because the announcers wouldn't announce him by his nickname. He changed it so they HAD to announce him as Marvelous.
