in thier prime Roy Jones JR v Marvin Hagler ? tell u who u got both 12 round fight & 15 round fight
i got Hagler over 15 rounds possbily by a 13 /14 round stoppage due to Roy speed becoming less of a factor as the fight gets into the latter part of the fight & Hagler coming on strong down the stretch with relentless preassure
i got Roy outboxing Hagler over 12 rounds although i could understand if anyone chose Hagler even in a 12 rounder aswell ,Roy did'nt look great agaisnt Southpaws IMO Del Valle had him over , he struggled with Frankie liles as an ameteur IMO ,he was beaten by Tarver 3 times as a pro & as an Ameteur i think
at 160 BTW
That was Bernard's best round of the fight and you can bet on it, Hagler will fight even better than that EVERY round for 15 rounds.
Not sure if Jones can take it. Of course the judges were never on Hagler's side and anything could happen but how could Jones, at age 24, handle one of the best middleweights ever IN HIS PRIME Marvin Hagler.
This is not the aging man who fought Leonard, I'm talking about the man who dispatched contenders in the early 80's.
Quoted for truth.
Hagler didn't seem to impose his power on the quicker Leonard, so what would have happened if he faced a quick, powerful Jones? Leonard landed a bunch of powder puff shots on Hagler's hard ass head. I don't think Jones would have knocked Hagler out, but he would have landed some shots that I think would have accumilated damage to Hagler.
I would guess Jones by UD and been sad about it.
There hasn't been another Hagler and never will be.
So what should the prime Jones be? The one that fought at 175 and KO'd fighters like Hill, Griffin and Harding? The one who defeated James toney at 168?
Lots of people were saying that Jones was a beast at 160 but I don't think so. If his skills, size, experience, all that were magically exported into a 160 RJJ body (a weight that he couldn't make when he went up to 175) then I don't know. I'm not a magician.
What I do know is that when prime Hagler fights prime RJJ (the best he ever performed at 160, which was the Hopkins fight I guess) then Hagler wins.
Roy Jones was green and not that experienced at the weight. The Roy that fought Pazienza is what I would label Prime or at least VERY close to prime. That Roy would beat Hagler if you hypothetically put that skill into his 160 pound frame. I concur though, the Roy that beat Hopkins would have been beat on by Hagler.

Cuevas was not chinny by any stretch either & Hearns startched him with the Hitman right hand
Thanks for noticing as it seems my posts are invisible to the rest in this thread. Anyway, back to the point. Hearns even managed to stop physically strong guys at cruiserweight. Ok, not stellar competition, but the fact that a guy who's best weights were 147-154(very similar to Trinidad) was able to carry the power so high is indicative of Hearns' punch.
I think's it's debatable that Jones was a harder puncher than Hearns. Do you think Jones could have brutally knocked out Roberto Duran the way Hearns did? I really don't see it. Duran had a great chin also and nobody, before or after, could do what Hearns did.

You aren't assesing the question correctly my friend. He said a PRIME Roy Jones at 160. Obviously 160 wasn't his prime HOWEVER if we take a Prime Roy with all his skills and put him up against Hagler at 160, IMO Roy comes out victorious.
Hopkins has never been faster than he was there.. besides.. that was bernards best round of the fight..

Malinga is one of his best career wins but stil that was at super middleweight. The only good middleweight he faced was Hopkins. I like Jones, but at 160 he has no resume to even be mentioned along with a consensus top 3 middleweight ever(Robinson, Monzon, Hagler).
Don't confuse 168 with 160.
The only fighters Roy beat at 160 were Glenn Wolfe, Thulani Malinga, Thomas Tate and his best win over a green Hopkins where he didn't look too good.
Hopkins vs Jones round 8.
Jones was a beast at 168 and very successful at 175 but he didn't accomplish much at 160. He was young too, like 23-24 years old, I don't think you can take on a middleweight beast like Hagler at that age.

All you people that havent seen roy at 160, i can hook you up with all those fights on dvd. Roy hit harder than any of haglers opponents, yes, even tommy hearns. He was faster, and his chin at 160 was excellent, he ate punches from james toney all night. You dont think he got hit any? watch the fights, he gets caught alot but he walks right rhough them. Jones wouldnt stop hagler, hagler is unstoppable because of his thick scull, but prime vs prime, yes ive seen prime hagler and if you want those fights i can hook u up as well, Jones wins.

Roy sure was impressive but against who? In 160 he had no challengers and only Hopkins was an outstanding win. The 1993 version of Hopkins was nowhere near a prime, early to mid 80's Hagler.
Very good fight indeed, I will have to go with Jones becuase of Jones athletism and skill. Hagler had awsome power but I think a prime Roy is able to avoid that and able to outbox him for 12 rounds.
I guess people here haven't seen a prime Hagler fight and don't probably know that Roy Jones was far from his best at 160.
He said a Prime Roy, so hypothetically speaking, since this IS a hypothetical question, I am assuming Roy is in his peak when it comes to physical skill.
