I bet I learn a TON about this, because I haven't studied many boxers' nicknames.
Here are the ones I know, and only one is actually pretty cool:
"Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr. - Referencing the bankrobber, even though he has no resemblence to it. It is just because he has such good defense and always came out... pretty. Not really that cool.
Paul "The Punisher" Williams - Literally... this guy just picked a nickname with P that sounded good. Probably the lamest thing ever.
Giuseppe Berardinelli "Joey Maxim" - He just went by his nickname. He took his name from the Maxim gun, the world's first self-acting machine gun. And the reason he took it (or someone gave it to him) is because he always threw so damn many left jabs, that it seemed like he was a left jab machine gun, because it was frequent. Now that is a sweet nickname.
Any other cool ones?
Tony Thornton got his nickname "The Punching Postman" from his days working as a postman.....
Calvin Brock's used to work as a banker that's why he's called "The Boxing Banker".
Joel "El Cepillo" Casamayor.
El Cepillo is The Hairbrush in Spanish, and they all thought that he raked other fighters' faces like a hairbrush, so that is how he got the nickname.
Gotta give love to Anthony "Sugar Ray Clay Jones Jr.".
I think he had made that his nickname because he really does think that he is going to be as good as all of them. :nonono:
ha theres a brit fighter who alfonso gomez beat on the contender uk v usa called Martin 'THE IMMACULATE' Concepcion!!! Shame hes fuckin awful.
then theres the brit light heavy whos called Steve Spartacus - who the fuck needs a nickname when thats your name!!!
Lance Whitaker, FKA Lance 'Mount' Whitaker and who briefly called himself Lance 'Goofi' Whitaker, had his name changed officially to plain old 'Goofi' on the advice of his manager Rock Newman. Newman wanted to separate his fighter from what he considered to be a crowd of non-descript heavyweight contenders who took themselves too seriously. Apparently, Newman figured that the name change was a clever way to market his fighter to increase his popularity among the toddler set. Nobody told Newman that toddlers don't generally watch the fights. :pat:
I'm pretty sure that Riddick Bowe gave Andrew Golota his unofficial nickname "The Foul Pole", but I don't recall exactly why? :dunno:
because hit bowe like 50 times below the belt
Yeah, I know. I was just trying to be a smart ass. Loved both of those fights. Someone else mentioned it was Katz. I have no idea who came up with the name, but the reason is obvious.
When Marco Antonio Barrera was 2 years old he used to sneak out of the house at night. He would travel up to the local bell tower and sit a top it shooting at people with his sniper rifle. Thats why they call him the "Baby Faced Assasin".
Also I would love to hear the real stories behind Juan "The hispanic causing panic" Lazcano .

"The Atomic Bull" strikes me as nice "Touch of sleep" D.Williamson. Also I would love to hear the real stories behind Juan "The hispanic causing panic" Lazcano .
The most original I've ever seen was "He Hate Me"!, made famous by XFL star Rod Smart. Not much of a cool story (after I win, he gon' hate me), a lot of players actually did hate him, lol. People put "I hate He" on their jerseys.
No, it's not real, I made it in Photoshop this morning. Thank you, thank you very much. I can hardly look at it witout laughing.
Lol that one was damn good. However alicia keys taking a pic that provocative, I don't think so.
I will ask again, is that pic real?

DLH got called the Golden Boy because it was said everything he was involved in made money.
Whitaker wanted his nickname to be Sweet Pete but some people in the audience for one of his fights misheard it as Sweet Pea.
SRR got his nickname from a guy that saw him in the amateurs when someone saw him fight and said he fought sweet as sugar.
that's true! The thing With De La Hoya, though....
He got labed "The Golden Boy" long before he made Millions because he was "THE ONLY" member of the 1992 US Olympic Boxing Team that came home with a Gold Medal.
Yo, you remember...
James "Bone Crusher" Smith
How about Larry "The Easton Assassin" Holmes
After his 2nd round knockout of Carlos Santana on July 30, 1992, in St. Petersburg, Florida, the ring announcer called him "Winky" Wright, the name given to him by his grandmother when he was 18 months old. The nickname stuck for the rest of his career.
I didn't know that story, but I do know that he absolutely hates to be called Ronald.
WRONG... the reason hes called magic man is because hes from the magic city, orlando, florida.
Wrong! It is only now that we learn why Tarver is called the "Magic Man" as we watch him disappear from the world rankings...
